I was just wondering how many people had more than one character. I was thinking In making a new one but Im not sure if I should do it yet.

People make new characters primarily to engage in activities that they know would not make sense for their current character to participate in. A good guy wouldn't go raiding villages, a bad guy wouldn't go on a quest to purge evil.
Alternatively, to try out different writing styles and experiment with whatever concepts your new character is based off of.

I've got two others.
One I seriously need to get the hang of before I lose interest in her, and another that was a lame idea to begin with.

I have four, but I only use two, Ifrit and Eternium. so far so good with those two, I've tried to make it so while similar aspects are still there, they are two completely different people and fighters.

According to my drop down thing. I have Eight others.
Three I don't use at all. Nor will I ever really do so again. Might take their idea elsewhere though.
Three that I wuv and will keep for a while, though I don't feel like my activity could support them at all.
And one other that I use, who's Maia.
Yay!

I have two others, though they've seen scant light on Althanas. Dip is right, at least in my case: having characters that are polar opposites or strange mixtures of black and white allows you to join interesting quests that you wouldn't usually consider for your main. Still, be sure that's what you want, because having multiple characters and joining too many quests with all of them can stretch you thin very quicky.
Only the one. ;)
I'm actually pretty amazed that in the... 4 years I've been on this website I still have the original character I first registered. I like him too much. lol
Even more amazing is that in 4 years of playing the same char I've only just now gotten level 4. :P
Anyways, I thought about making another char that was pretty much the exact opposite of Sorahn... meaning an evil female char. Thought that would be kind of fun to play. But seeing as how I don't have enough time and energy to post with Sorahn as much as I would like, I don't think I'd be able to handle another char.

Wow wow Ok hold on people
the issue with me is that i too have a hard time identifying who's who. I though that there where tons of Mods... but apparently those are just their extendec acounts... I didnt know that Maia belonged to felix Wtf
List them please.
and Yeah i was thinking In making a valkire-like female character, I just need the idea to sink for a few days and I'll create her.

I eat pogs like a groundhog during labor day! Coo coo kachoo!
It's the same as handling NPCs in a quest, only you keep the narrative focused on your alts.

But still... wouldt people not get it?
I didn't

Eventually you get a knack for figuring out who's who. Repetitive themes in characters and stories. Writing style. Stuff like that. Letho and Cinderella Man are the same person, and the writing style shows that. My alternate character Amatullah Fadiyah uses an alternative version of Cad's magic style and religion.

Course a few are just out of the blue.
Maia and Leon aren't very much alike till after I point it out. Showstopper got to level 4 before it was really Shyam. Etc. Etc.

Some users also put their AIM s/n in their profile, which is how you can tell that half of Althanas is actually Manda in disguise.

After a while of people dropping hints around the forums, you get things. Plus, when they make temprary outro threads, they usually give a list of all the characters that won't be active because of their absence, so that's another hint!
Then there are the times they just right out say it.
And yes, The Manda can fill up the applications for a tournament, all by herself. Twice.

I've had more than...that many... 19?...before.
Viola Darkstalker
10-04-07, 12:52 AM
I keep mine straight because none of them have any of the same personalities. Viola's a sadistic cold-blooded mass-murderer. Sasha is rather serene and mellow. Monica is bouncy and fun. Adelia is just cold. It's easy to keep them apart.

Aye, you should have seen Manda during her Metallica years. ;)
I won't list who I am here, saved for the ones you guys already know- *Clamps his mouth shut*
Umm, scratch what I said earlier. I'll list the ones I have on here. For now. ;)
- AsukaStrikes
- Yamihara
- Gadgeteer Mikami
These girls are my eyes and ears... Don't do anything funny, alright? ;)
Moonlit Raven

I currently have six characters, with four more in the planning. Each is different in their own ways. I normally think of them as people in their own right and each has a little space in my head for me to tap into when I am writing.
....I just realized that sounds pretty creepy. Oh well.:D
AdventWings
10-04-07, 06:28 AM
Hey, at least you just give them "space" in your head so you can tap them for writing inspirations.
Not like these girls who are constantly negging me for attention. ;)
Murakama: No, just me. *Whacks Raven in the head for not making her Pagoda thread*
Ow! That hurts, Rin! :(
I have two that I use regularly, two that are sporadic and two that I haven't used much of at all. If at all really.
Ha~!
2 most active: Komosatuo & Koran
2 semi-active: Seether & Tiberius
2 not-so-active: Gorath the Strong & Bernard
I've had multiple characters before, but I only ever felt I was being effective when I concentrated on one, as I'm doing now.

I had no idea you were Asuka, Advent. It looks like I'm going to have quite a challenge beating you at this rate. ^_^
-pries catgirl off neck-
They all have a bit of space in my mind, but that space flexes to encompass almost my whole way of thinking when I'm writing for them.

What can I say?
I am Omnipresent.

Mutant_Lorenor
10-04-07, 03:43 PM
I have two others besides Lorenor.
I'm also Alberdyne Cormyr and Lexxum Vordic. Lexxum was one of my older accounts. I think I registered on Althy with him first. I don't quite remember though. I think it was Lexxum first and then Lorenor. I restarted Lorenor a buncha times when he'd already hit level 3 or level 4. Don't feel too bad Sorahn I still haven't gotten Lorenor to level 1 yet and I've been back for a while already.
Telling your characters apart is as easy as creating a unique personality. I stress psychology in my profiles a lot don't I? Well that's because I draw from a lot of interesting people I've met in my life. I get inspired by that so basically I make characters that mimic certain people I know or have met at some point or another. Lorenor and the rest are easy to tell apart.
Alberdyne is supposed to be my heroic character, Lorenor is one of my villains but he doesn't fit the traditional villain archetype, and Lexxum is also a villain but with shades of gray. Lexxum is more of a sadistic killer with a sense of honor type. The trick is making your alts very different from your main character. I forgot who in this thread said it but they hinted at it best.
Your character(s) should be like real people. If they aren't telling the story you have to look at the basic creation process of your character again and make edits where need be. Scrap corny ideas and flesh out the things of about your characters that make them interesting. In the end having a flashy ability or a cool weapon isn't what's important. It's what drives your character(s) to do this or that. That's the stuff that makes legends. That's the best possible advice I could give anyone. If you're making an alt, don't treat them like an alt, treat them like another person and you should be fine.
I have six characters with varying amounts of activity, and I keep their acts together because they're all really different. To be precise, I have...
- an adorable Irish chick whose magic relies on her faith. She's about to undergo an identity crisis.
- a calculating Akashiman noblewoman who has a unique style of fighting.
- a blind girl with amnesia who has a chronic cough. She's a sweetheart.
- a werefox who doesn't do much nowadays.
- an emo Elf who just doesn't care.
and
- a sultry Siren of sin.
Hard to mix 'em up. ^_^
I'm thinking of bringing in a new pair of characters, but I don't have that sort of time.
Man, I have more characters than I can shake a stick at. Most though, are not even online anywhere.
For the ones I have here:
There is a Nerd, the sort of nerd even other nerds avoid, lost and trying to adjust to an alien world. He's going to discover an astonishing secret that many would kill to discover, and even more would kill to keep a secret.>Xos<
There is a cold hard psycopathic killer on the loose. Will his loving mother and sister be able to turn him around, and help him fulfill his true destiny; Or will his cruel father turn him into a weapon of war? >Destrudo<
A wild woman has emerged from the forest. a Lesser Thayne known for being the fool of the gods has given her a challenging concept to study and think about. Will she learn the true nature of nature and grow to become one of its most powerful forces? >Valanthe<
A bereved man seeks revenge and justice for his loss. He desires to protect others from what happened to him, but will his desire for revenge turn him down a dark and sinister path, making all pay for his loss? >Rahegalhoff<

In an effort to remember better!
4 guys I don't use much, but'll get recycled eventually.
-A werewolf styled monk without much of the spiritual growth associated with monks.
-A necromancer who wants to learn a lot. And decay stuff.
-A really old gadgeteer styled char I copped off from Maia.
-A terrible attempt at super mage! He would have learned a LOT of spells.
3 Chars I DO wub, but not active enough for.
-A self serving mage who was related to another Althanas char, very ambitious.
-a vastly hemophobic doctor kitty girl. First on the list to be brought back.
-An anorexic, red-headed musician styled char.
2 Mains!!
-A very scary/kyooot bugger that can tear out someone's heart and still get petted an hour later. Snuggle the Leon! He is soft and fuzzy.
- a *snicker* very pretty girl who has a lot of magic potential. I have a storyline sort of set out for her, and stuff. Also, because I know it'll make someone smile, has awesome breasts.
AND A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREEEEEEEEEEEE

*smilesdroolslobbersexpectorates*
You know it!
Three O.D's, two shattered skulls, and a drunk who drove into a treeeeeeeeeeeee!
Speaking of Scrubs, I'm thinking of making a janitor character at first person. He dances a fine irish jig!
There was one character I was considering even before Xos my first character.
But, I'm having major issues trying to figure out how to make it a not overpowered level 0, while still maintaining its unique racial characteristics.
If I ever figure it out, I might try to make her a character.

Caduceus Grimaldi- A young magician who refuses to believe in any darkness within himself, which has begun to cause oddities in his magical progression.
Zelos Donovan- A ninja, basically. Never really fleshed him out.
Leon Adalbert- A merchant and the founder of the old Merchants' Confederation, a Power Group made up of inventors, crafters, engineers, and traders.
Rhonwen Bel- A dragon knight and follower of the Thayne, Draconus. Very pious woman.
Aurt- A dwarf. Plain and simple. Never used him.
Amatullah Fadiyah- A young priestess who uses emotional and healing magic. A Fallien native, though not of the common culture there.

wow... This makes Althanas a much smaller place than it apears....
Farmboy
10-04-07, 06:22 PM
I have 3 characters:
Farmboy: Braden Larn, a farmboy who, after an unlucky encounter with the Syndicate, is thrust into a world of peril.
Bearded Gnome: Rathmar Hammerfist, the first dwarf to grace the halls of Althanas. When I left him, he was Founding a city and helping the good folks of Irrakam fight off a siege.
Vampiric Angel: Anenfel Saendithas, a greenhorn half-elf from Scara Brae, he was my first character. And to date, the only one I've finished a thread with. XD
Slayer of the Rot
10-04-07, 08:31 PM
Two that I use.
Slayer of the rot [Dan Lagh'ratham]
- Convoluted pain in the ass main character. Possesses enormous super human strength and will soon be able to control stone, dirt, metal, sand. He's known by different names in other places around Althanas, like Renuanupadin in Fallien.
Bohemia [Jonathon King]
- Cynical, sour mannered, clinically depressed and out of shape ex-adventurer who is extremely bitter to those who is successful in the business. He struggles to get by in present day Corone where the best jobs are in the army. He's a terrible alcoholic and thinks he's a decent writer and has problems with substance abuse. He's the favorite I forget about who mirrors me closest.
