Schai

Name: Schai T'letha
Age: 19
Race: Human
Hair Color: Honey Blonde
Eye Color: Pale violet
Height: 5’4”
Weight: 115 lbs.
Occupation: Priestess of the Thayne

Personality: Humble to a fault, this lovely girl has no concept of her own, or anyone else’s beauty. When alone, she rarely smiles, but is quick to do so in the company of others. Despite her handicap, she is always willing to charge into danger in order to help those in need. Those who try to deter her quickly discover her stubbornness. Schai is notably devout to the Thayne, often thanking each of the gods for their contributions. They, in return, grant her the power to heal or harm in their names.

Appearance: Slender and graceful, this nymph of a woman makes others look washed out and plain in comparison. Her honeyed hair falls in light waves down to her waist, and is generally left loose. Bronzed skin is a testament to her long hours in the sun traveling, healing the sick, and worshipping the Thayne. The one thing that sets her apart from the rest of the human populous is her strange, pale eyes of lavender.

History: Born in a small, countryside town in Corone, Schai was prized and adored by her parents. It wasn’t until she was a few months old that they realized that something was wrong. No matter how many times they smiled at her, she did not acknowledge the smile at all. Their suspicions were confirmed when she began crawling and ran into every piece of furniture and every wall in the house. Finally, they resigned themselves to the fact that she was blind.

Over the years, her parents did their best to teach her to be confident, and to always find a way to do things by herself. After all, someday she would want to venture out, and without the capability to walk alone across the street, she’d likely be run over by a carriage. Schai even attended school with the other children of the town, learning quickly that a quick wit was the fastest way to dissolve mistrust. Children being cruel, they would tease her, waving their hands in front of her face like idiots to see if she would blink. By then, however, the girl had learned to hear the movement, and she would look at the hand, the eye movement eventually creeping the others out so they would stop. Sometimes she would just say “having fun?” and they would jump as though she’d tried to bite them.

Overall, her teachers were impressed by her intelligence and desire for knowledge, and would often let her study after class. Quickly surpassing the other students in their studies, Schai became the ‘one to see’ for tutoring and help with lessons. For her, the stigma of blindness was nothing more than a study in patience, since with time she could achieve acceptance. By the time she reached 16, she was rather popular, her incredible beauty, charm, and kindness winning people over easily.

In the fall of her 16th year, the town was stricken with a virus that had the healers baffled. They had no herbs or potions that could cure it, and the rash it caused was painful and itchy. The only person who seemed unaffected was Schai, though for a while she was unaware that anything was wrong with the others. Her mother contracted a particularly painful case, and was bedridden. Worried nearly to illness herself, the girl brought her food in bed and helped her to apply the salve the healers sent. Feeling the sores beneath her fingers, she wept, praying to the Thayne that they would release her from this pain. Within an hour, the whole of her mother’s body was without sores, and she was able to move around freely.

News of the miracle spread quickly, and soon people were practically pounding down the door to be healed by the little blind girl. Amazingly, she was able to comply, her prayers answered by the gods each and every time. It was said that her caring and selflessness moved the gods, and that her confidence and steadfast manner impressed them, so that they granted her the power of healing. Awed and inspired by this, Schai turned her soul over to the Thayne, devoting her life to serving them. Her studies became more concentrated on religion, and she even spent time at several monasteries seeking knowledge. On her 18th birthday, she set out into the world, seeking ways to please the Thayne and spread their wisdom. Her mother’s parting gift was a silver necklace with a circular pendant, representing the unity of the Thayne.

Skills:
Acute Hearing Able to hear and, within 75% accuracy depending on distance, locate a person by the sounds of their breathing, movement of clothing or armor, or speech. If the person is close to her, say within a few feet, this is insanely accurate. But the further they are from her, the less accurate it becomes. A person several yards away, for example, she would be able to look in their general direction, but often is off by a few feet. This is generally used to generate natural discussions, as it is disconcerting for most if she doesn’t look at them when they speak to her. Note: SHE'S BLIND!!!

Spells:
Minor Cure Able to heal light wounds, such as those that would need only a few stitches, or minor illnesses such as colds or common viruses. In essence, she is speeding up the immune system’s process by a few days, nothing more.

Equipment:
Mahogany Staff – carved an polished with a gold-plated steel claw-foot head holding a clear crystal of no real value or property.
Leather Jack – a simple cured leather armor top.
Loaf of bread
Wheel of cheese
Water skin – holds 1 gallon (full)
Sling satchel
Silver necklace with a simple circle for a pendant, symbolizing the unity of the Thayne.

Just don't abuse the hearing, as there are some stealthy people.
