((While it may be 3 different characters, I am the same person for all of them. So, just to clarify, all bunnying in the future, major or minor, are approved of. ))

Leigh tossed the bloody head of the wanted criminal onto the wooden table of the bounty office and sat down wearily upon one of the wooden benches that occupied the dark room. “Hey Devin…” she greeted a massive man behind the desk, who had been signing papers when the head had rolled next to him, whereupon he simply looked at it with a raised eyebrow. “…I got another one. I found him raping a woman in one of the alleyways by the southeast exit.:

The man named Devin sighed and shook his head, setting the quill down before running his fingers through his hair. “This is the third one this week you’ve gotten. You need to take a break before you burn out, maybe let some other hunters do their jobs as well.”

“Devin, he was raping a woman. What else was I su—“

“I know, I know, I’m just sayin’…” Devin rolled his eyes as he looked to the head and picked it up. “Who is this one anyways?”

Leigh pulled out a sheet of parchment which held wanted info for the man. The big guy took the parchment and began to read it out loud as his eyes scanned the information with a practiced speed. “ ‘Marek Huntington, Age 29, C class criminal. Wanted dead or alive for three accounts of murder, two accounts of attempted murder, 3rd degree assault and batter and robbery of a Scara Brae accessory store. Reward: 300 gold pieces upon death, 500 if taken alive. Payment upon completion.’” Devin took a breath and looked at the tired Witch. “Y’know, you could have taken him alive and gotten more money out of this at the very least.”

“Didn’t feel like it. You know I have an itchy trigger finger, Devin.”

He frowned. “You used your crossbow? Then what’s with the head?”

Leigh lifted her sheathed katana from its place by her side. “I didn’t want to drag the whole body over here, so I thought just the head would do.”

Again the big man sighed and rubbed his eyes. Gruesome as she was, Leigh had come to Scara Brae around a month ago and now turned out to become one of the finest bounty hunters around. In fact, Devin was afraid that if she kept going like this she was going to rid some other Bounty Hunters out of a job.

She first came into his office on a sunny day, and he immediately noticed a certain stance about her that told him that she was no amateur to fighting. So when she slapped a wanted poster on the table and asked for the job, he wasn’t surprised. He was surprised, however, when she came back that same night with the bodies of both of the killers in her hands, crossbow bolts sticking out of their backs like pins in pincushions.

From that point on she had become one of the most reliable hunters around, but he was still afraid that she wasn’t up for a higher level job than her current ones. The highest he had given her was a Class B-, and even though she had taken the criminal down on her own she had looked a little worse for the wear.

So when he gave her the 300 gold in reward, he was rather hesitant about showing her the newest job. It was a Class B+ criminal, and from the looks of the guy he saw danger and death ahead.

“What’s that you got in your hand?”

Devin looked up from the parchment in his hands and quickly shoved it behind his back. “Oh, nothing.” He lied glibly.

Leigh leaned over the desk and her blue eyes glowed intensely. “Your trying to hide another job from me, aren’t you?”

Devin sighed. She had got him once again. “Yes, but honestly I don’t think you can take this guy.”

The Witch rolled her eyes. Who did he take her for? A weakling? “Just show me the parchment and I’ll decide whether or not he’s too tough for me.”

The big man knew she would accept the job regardless, so he handed over the piece of parchment in defeat.

Leigh frowned as she began reading it out loud. “ ‘Eternium, Age Unknown, Class B+ criminal. To be taken alive. Reward upon completion: 1000 gold pieces.’” She looked to the big man. “Wait, that’s it? That’s all the info on him? Like, what did he do?”

Devin shrugged. “Nobody knows. Today a man wearing strange clothing came in and requested the bounty, saying that he was dangerous and must be taken alive. The only things he gave me were that information and this picture.” He finished, sliding a picture of Eternium in front of Leigh.

She looked at the man. He was fairly tall and completely albino, and wore a long white trenchcoat with strange interlocking black designs all over it. His hair was white and long, hiding his eyes slightly with silver bangs. Looking at the man, she felt a slight shadow of doubt, as even from the picture she sensed a powerful presence, but quickly repressed it with her determination. “I’ll take him.”

“Big surprise.”

“What was that??”

“…Nothing…”

Devin took the hundred gold pieces that Leigh had in her hand. “If you get anymore information on him tell me, alright?” She said and winked at the big man.

“Wait.”

She paused and turned around. Devin was looking at her with a worried expression. “I really think you should work with someone else on this one. Y’know, team up.”

“Devin, you know I…” she was interrupted with the door opened with a heavy sound, and she could hear boots behind her, walking heavily upon the wooden floor.

Ifrit Obsidian, bounty hunter and Captain of the Seventh Company of the Bladewraiths, was not in a very good mood that night. He was almost out of a job: Someone had taken almost all of the good bounties in not only the taverns but when he had checked in at the Bounty Office that day the officer said that there were no new jobs and that the rest had already been taken and done.

If he could, Ifrit would wring the neck of the person who kept on doing this. It was one thing to be diligent in your job but this person was overly obsessive over this and was probably some knight with a “mission of god” attitude or something. Ifrit despised such people, as hypocrisy leaked from them like sweat. The only things Ifrit believed in were his own power and luck, and that, it seemed, was good enough for him.

The night was quiet, and the half demon was carrying the head of his newest bounty. However, this one had been small fry, just a Class D criminal who had been charged with known assault and robbery. Easily found, Ifrit hadn’t even used his sword to decapitate the criminal. The man hadn’t even seen him coming, so Ifrit just pulled out his curved dagger and plunged it into the man’s back. An instant death, Ifrit was more than disappointed at the lack of response and had been grumbling irritably the entire time back.

A cool breeze went through the air, and Ifrit was chilled despite himself. It was getting close to winter, he assumed, and the snow would fall in droves this year. Ifrit pulled his black coat tighter around him with his un-gauntleted hand and moved faster through the night, sticking to the shadows and staying out of the moonlight. He didn’t want a Scara Brae guard trying to stick a spear in his side just because he decided just the head would do.

When he finally reached the office he heard voices inside and was genuinely surprised. What were others doing out so late? He wondered, and looked at the bloody head that he carried in his claws. I’d better hide this. He thought to himself again, and put the bloody head behind his back as he pushed the door open slightly to reveal himself.

Once inside he saw a voluptuous young woman wearing a black corset and a coat, it seemed. On her back was a sheathed katana, and on her silken black gloves she wore a pair of steel vambraces. Ifrit had never seen her before, so he assumed she must be new. At the sound the of door creaking open both she and the officer, Devin, stopped talking, and they turned to the sound to see the half demon standing there with his hand behind his back.

“Oh…Ifrit…*ahem* what a surprise!” The big man working the desk said. Devin had known Ifrit for a long time now. When this demon came into his office he truly looked like a demon, and the Bounty officer had almost pulled out his own weapon before he saw the devil slap down a wanted poster and said with a gleam in his dangerous, crazy red eyes, “I’ll take this guy down for ya.”

Then, much much later, when this young boy came in, he didn’t know who it was until he saw the red eyes. While they were more serious, more mature than when Devin had last seen him, they still held that dangerous gleam that made the officer want to run out of the room in case the devil decided that Devin was more of a challenge than the bounties themselves.

And so he usually reserved Ifrit for more dangerous, experienced missions. But since Leigh had just taken his newest—

Devin cursed. He had forgotten about Leigh’s prejudice and hate for demons! “Leigh, wait…” He tried to say, but was too late. Leigh had already seen his eyes and she screamed “Devil!” before pulling out her katana with one hand and, raising her hand above her head, said a few words in a language he did not comprehend before summoning her strange weapon, a crossbow that appeared out of seemingly nowhere. She locked and loaded it quickly with one hand, her blue eyes furious and intense, before pointing the “barrel” of the weapon at the surprised half demon and pulling the trigger.

This thread has been sitting for a full year. Since no response has been made to create activity I am going to be moving this. If you would like it to be reopened please feel free to PM myself or another staff member and they will be able to move it for you back to Scara Brae.
