Sometimes it was the easiest jobs that leave a bad taste in the mouth. The yojimbo job to protect Lin Reckson as he would come home to his home village. The merchant wanted to return to his home once he stopped receiving letters from home. The trip through Concordia was dull and Ki was glad she brought her kits along since boredom was the worst enemy and the client was so single minded about his trip that it would have been dead silence without them.

But the end made Ki regret bringing the kits or even just coming at all. The payment was little and the man wasn't happy to pay once he saw the state of his home. The harsh look that he gave Ki, Chiyo and Ryo had venom that he might just spit at the trio or on their coins but he did not. Then the site of seeing a grown man cry into the skeleton of a burnt out building as watching gray ash gather black dots of tears was just one dour end to the quest without a hint of adventure.

Doji looked at her children, seeing Chiyo looking at her feet as she fidgeted with her tail and Ryo glared at the man and chewed on his lip, angry at no one in particular. The two were not sure what to do and were either guilty or angry. Doji herself wasn't too happy with her tails drooping low to match the ones of her kits.

"Umm, There doesn't seem to be nothing more we can do." Ki said as she looked at the short bald man in once exquisite and now dirty silks but got no answer. "Well you can come with us to Radasanth. No extra charge." Ki said looking at the middle aged man who shook his head.

"I'm staying here."

The nine tails wanted that place gone as she walked away from the ruin. Leaving the burnt buildings and ungrateful merchant in her tracks and heading into the lush green forest. The silence was grating to the mother as she never heard her kits be so quiet.

The forest was a nice change as the trees were green and alive as was the underbrush and it allowed Ki to leave the glumness behind as her mind went from bitter thoughts of defeat to things more pleasant before relapsing.

But good thoughts didn't last too long as all the kits did was mope as their feet crunched the leaves in a slow pulse that left Ki gloomy again. For everyone's sake she had to do something since Chiyo and Ryo wouldn't do anything to cheer things up.

Again the forest proved the savoir to Ki as she heard the gentle trickle of a stream, perfect. Nothing like a cool bath and some play in the stream to wash the soul of it's ills.

The kits looked up to see there mother showing some spring in her step as she change coarse. "Mom, where are you going, the path's this way."

"Oh, come on. Why don't you show some adventure since the last one was a bust?" Ki giggled and then sniffed the air. No one was in heat and no scent of ill will. Once she was sure she bolted towards the stream and stopping only for a second to fling her clothes onto a rock and leave her weapons.

The kits widened their eyes and looked at each other. "Chiyo, did mom just go nuts?" He asked and his sister shrugged.

"I don't know. Mommy seemed okay. Well until just now."

"Hey come on, the water's not that cold!" Ki Turned about with her feet ankle deep, un ashamed of her nakedness facing her children.

"Mommy! Stop goofing off, I wanna go home!" Chiyo whined and blushed not sure what to do about her mother's taunting.

"Mom!" Ryo yelled as he watched her tails swaying to and fro and her mischievous grin and trying to keep the eyes off of Ki's other assets.

"Come on you too, Please, for your mother. I bet you can't catch me. If you do you can choose what you want for desert for the next week!" The kyubi sat her self on a rock and raspberried her kits, soon finding them striping down and joining her in her game.

The sound of foxes playing was all that could be heard and soon everyone was giggling, though Ki was having the last laugh. Every attempt to capture the ninetails was a failure as she always slipped right past them, even when Chiyo and Ryo had her cornered by the shore, one of the rules was no leaving the stream unless in surrender. But soon The kits was tired of the futility and then Ryo looked at Chiyo.

"She won't get the last laugh, I have a plan. We go to the shore and get dressed, mom will laugh at us and claim victory and then we'll light a bright illusion and run off with her clothes. Then we will give them back when she says that we win." The fox boy quietly whispered into his sister's ear.

"But Ryo, it's pretty mean and breaks the rules."

"What did mom say about rules in sword fighting. The greatest don't play by the rules." Ryo strutted towards the shore and went to his kimono to get dressed. It was good of his mother to get naked and not just change her kimono into a bikini, it wouldn't have been fair and his plan wouldn't work.

"But..." Chiyo protested before following.

"Giving up already!" Ki grinned as she stood on a rock above the water. "You two still have a chance." A flash of illusionary light blasted her and Ki fell in the water with a big splash and when she got up she could not see her kits and when she went to shore her clothes were gone but the swords were left. "Chiyo, Ryo! You don't steal people's stuff like that." Ki gathered up the blades and took another sniff. The stench of evil was about. "Chiyo, Ryo! Get back here! Please!" The vixen begged as she ran as quick as she could with the leaves and needles poking her feet and the cold after effects of stream seemed to make the fear more real.

"Ryo! They're still below us! Mommy! Help!" Chiyo cried out as she hugged the branch that kept her and her brother from falling onto the walking dead below.

"Quiet Sis, I need to think. I can get us out of here."

"But we don't have our swords."
