View Full Version : Unrealized Characters and Ideas

We've all had them. Characters that you would have loved to be a part of something on here but were simply too strong or they never became more than ideas, or ideas that never got out of your head but continued to torment you always.

Here is a remembrance to those unrealized dreams, and hopefully an inspiration to bring them from their graves.

Post!

Well, you know, there is this one Ninyama Warder who was on here back before the crash... He is just too darn powerful for a level 0 and has a shaky background.

I think he'll just remain an NPC for the time being, even though he has no role in the stories weaving around at the moment.

One of mine: On the Black_Zeromus account that I don't remember the password to. >.< Anyways, I was going to make a wolf-hybrid something, but that never became anything as I got pushed away from Althanas cuz of school....and writers block *collective gasps* Yes, I know I know. Tis blashermy to even utter those words around here.

Kylin Rouge: (Shadow Magic) The crashes made me lose where I was going with him.

Ledan Karandros: (Super-long Twin Knives) He was better in his Cesirae incarnation, and I don't see the point of bringing him back now.

Rayse Rafanas: (Scythe, Ice Magic) Yari Rafanas left for a long time (or maybe for good) so he never got a start.

Saito Tenjirou: (Katana) FQ-quality planning but I couldn't get anyone else interested. I'm not a big fan of solo FQs.

Rith Hem, or Rhythm: (Robot) Sei's character, Rhythm's counterpart, vanished. Probably was the best character concept, I don't see the point of bringing him back though. His posts consisted of made-up computer jargon and programming.

VVV Oh right, the NPCs. Probably hundreds of which to be involved in the above stories.

Hundreds. Most of which get absorbed, sooner or later, into my writing. A token few end up bleeding back out in some watered-down version used for roleplay. I'm paranoid of bringing most around for fear of being ripped off >_> I also have to water down the power of most of them to avoid conflict with game etiquette. Thus why this version of Caden is so much weaker and reminiscent to the works of Terry Pratchett.

Cadence Law: Caden's younger (or older) and exponentially nicer/more talented sister -- a Witch-Priestess operating for the Church of the Ethereal Sway. Spellwork focused on manipulating aspects of the weather (Water, Lightning, Air, Temperature), with a side of clerical power (re: Smite Undead Ass...presumably). Vowed to poverty. Short, blonde, dressed even crazier than Caden. Story behind the name: Caden is named because his parents wanted another daughter (whom they'd already decided would be named Cadence). Might still appear, if only as an NPC.

Derris Warson: A former Corone soldier-turned-bounty hunter due to the recent civil wars. Likened to a dwarf with gigantism on account of being a 6'6", 380 pound wall of muscle, armor, beer and spite. Dual-wielded a broadsword and a thunder hammer, had a pair of spring-clawed gauntlets for surprise attacks. His powers were almost exclusively physical, limited to force strikes with his hammer and morale damage dealt by his voice.

Any number of generic fighters and swordsmen, an unnamed geomancer wielding a three-bladed scythe, and a character who may yet exist if I can find some way to justify the concept of TimeHax Swordsmanship© without powerplaying. A poisonmaster swordsman/alchemist I scrapped because the jaded cynic in me figured everyone would be able to resist any of his poisons -- never did get around to naming him. A Speedster-type who was literally faster than anyone else alive -- did most of his damage with a pair of brass knucks and metal shinguards.

Besides that, a proper Martial Mage, and a hippy sorceror capable of acting as Caden's absolute opposite. Both scrapped on the grounds that I don't want to play a whole cast of characters by myself.

Great thread idea.

Lately I've had the idea of a metal-manipulating mage in my head, but the belief that it isn't enough to work with has kept me from making him.

Well, last night I was just looking at my character and suddenly remembered one of my old stories, called "Death's Lament". It was about a young man who save a boy from a car accident by sacrificing himself instead. However, he meets the Visage of Death, who tells him that Death is not some immortal being, that it is a power that is transfered from one to another during a time of passing. Of course, the main character becomes Death. I thought the interesting twist was he started to use his "powers" as a superhero, a viligante of the night, sort of a mix between spiderman and batman. However, as the body count rises (he is Death after all), he starts to doubt his judgement of right and wrong.

I wrote about 50 pages of that before my comp crashed and erased everything, and I haven't had the heart to ressurect ol' Death. While he would be too strong a character for althanas, even as an NPC, I thought that he was one of my better ideas. Another one was in a story called "For Fear of a Man", in which a small city of the survivors of Apocalypse suddenly cast out a mute man into the desert for the supposed crime of that he murdered countless numbers of people. The twist is that you never know if he did or not: the POV of the story is in limited 3rd person, in which the reader can see him and what he does but since you cannot hear him think or speak(cause he's mute), you never ever know if the crime was ever commited.

Anyways, upon thinking of these I wondered about other people's ideas, and created this thread out of pure curiousity. So far it seems to be doing well. People have really good ideas, I must say. A metal manipulating mage? Its kind of like an old-time magneto is the image that pops into my head. Like, Magneto in Wizard's clothing or something.

Problem is, Luc can already manipulate metal, though to a very minor extent. The idea was to make a guy who specialized in it, and also had talents in many different styles of weapon fighting. But I figured he'd play too much like Luc, except with more stabbing.

Excuse the reference to Bleach, but sort of like Byakuya's control over his weapon Senbozakura? If you haven't seen it, what his bankai/sheiki is that his sword blade dissapates into thousands of little shads that glow pink in the sunlight, making them look like cherry blossoms. He can control these with his mind. (Senbozakura=1000 Cherry blossoms in Japnaese)

I've forgotten more ideas than you can shake a buster sword at for short stories and radio drama (sketch and full-length). One particular one that comes to mind was a bounty hunter saga in the vein of Cowboy Bebop (minus the sweet soundtrack--Christoph and I are the only two in the group that can actually play instruments). Even though this idea went through almost twenty manifestations, I decided to scrap the project entirely when I wrote a short 6-part serial earlier this year, looked at it, then decided it was crap to begin with. But, it still lingers in the back of my mind, popping up at the most inconvenient times--usually when I'm at work.

But the point of that story is I did end up pulling the main character out and using her as my other character on Althanas, though. But I feel as if she's harder to get a handle on than Elijah. You'd think that after five years of planning, I'd know her front and back, right? Pffft. Wrong.

Seth_Rahl

Your other character is...? I want to say Eyes of...but i'm not sure.

EDIT: I'm glad that this thread is doing good. I might just leave it alone for a little while and see what other people put up. I don't want to post after every single person, that's all. But forcing myself to post slow....*winces* it sure is tough.

So now in then i'll pop in, ask a random question or share an experience/memory of mine, and pop back out, but I won't be posting quite as often. The rest is up to you guys.

My alt character is Madison Freebird, a.k.a. BlackAndBlueEyes.

Edit: Best way to know if a character is mine is if the avatar is ripped from an NES game and the colors are modified ;)

Seth_Rahl
10-18-07, 09:02 AM
Ah. Why did I think of Eyes of...?
Anyways I see what you mean. But you play her fairly well from what i've seen, especially in your Pagoda thread(s). so all I can say is keep on truckin'.

Right, over and out people.

RESPONSE TO BELOW POST: I'm not posting, I just had to say something back to Elijah. Note the whole "over and out".

(Seth, didn't you just say you'd be toning down the over-posting? You don't always have to comment on what people put on here.)

I had a demon character I once made on the site. He was so typical it sickens me even now.

I suppose he could have improved with time, as my other characters seem to do well, but I couldn't come up with any sort of interesting storyline in which to involve him that would show creative and dynamic growth. Two-dimensional demons with a taste for revenge just don't do it for me.

Making characters too strong isn't my problem... leveling them up is. Other than that, going through my image collection (almost 1.5k images) gives me a character idea for almost half of them. I don't know about you, but I don't have the time/will to make 750 characters. One in particular that I may write out is a set of twins with a "hive mind". I'm sure you can imagine the fun that ensues when you know all of someone else's thoughts.

I've had a few^^

one was a plan to have ninja and Ki's more independent child. Never really made it.

Another was a time traveling treasure hunter.

And tons of mages. I love mages but I can't make them work on althanas.

Amaril Torrun
10-18-07, 11:42 AM
I've wanted to bring back my elven mage and my dwarf, but I don't really have any storyline whatsoever for them. Hildraft, the dwarf, had a story, but I've long forgotten it.

I've wanted a pirate, but that is too vague to run with.

I once wrote out a profile for Amaril's brother, but I've decided to hold off until I have more of Amaril's story written out.

I have a profile for a character unlike any I've ever seen, but I'm holding off on posting that one until I actually have something for him/her. I even have his/her first quest planned, once I find the time to bother with it.

I've had plenty of other ideas, as vague as the pirate one. The way I see it, I can use those ideas with the characters I have now, which is what I plan to do.

EDIT: By the way, this thread was a good idea Seth. I can feel some creative juices pumping from it. Too bad I have to put it toward classwork right now.

Currently theres just two, one because hes an exhaustive old blood mage that can't do much more than shuffle, weakening his spells enough to get passed is the tough part along with working out the direction to take him.

The other one is sortof a villain version of the Mime, back when I made the quartet originally there was the Murderous Mime, Sadistic Statue, Barbaric Busker and then the one I performed and doodled up in quite good detail.

The Carniverous Clown (http://dawnallies.deviantart.com/art/Clown-Colour-45486061)

The drawing done by Blackwhisker who also did the Mimes image. The trouble with him is simply working out a good direction apart from the mindless slaughter he lives for, the attacks were fun to conjure up.

Creepy.

Another idea of mine -- Logan and his sentient sword Razaken. who is a smart alec, alot. Wasn't one of my better ideas though, even though I worked over 20 pages typed on it. The female character, Scarlett, was your traditional fiery red head. Including the fire part.

Hmm....maybe i'll create her as a present for Letho. ^^

Things I've had that didn't work.

Metal Shifting and Manipulating Guy. Also was so crappily done I ignore him now.

Necromancer who made things dead. A touch from her meant dead skin cells, then corruption would spread and so on.

Ninja who was more typical then Peanut butter with jelly.

Things I like the idea of!
-Robotic styled chars.
-Gadgeteers! Maia is one to a small extent, but I mean the whole bit. Combined with Robotic things.
-Music based Magicks! I wub Istien, and I'm working on that for Maia

Actual Char Ideas I've toyed with!
-A shape changer, though not so much changing appearance, but suddenly growing 2 feet, wings splortching out of back, and suddenly claws. And more refined versions as well. Like "Hey that hunk/Chick is really really hot! Look at hi/her muscles/boobs and OH MY GOD It'S MONSTER!"

-A weendigo style char much like Valintina. This one is more an aspect I'll play somewhere else though. and make it not Valintina-esque.

I once created a character in TextEdit named Samael Qliphoth. He was a fallen angel who formerly watched over chaste women. However, he fell in love with one of them and decided he had to have her. She was unwilling, but he raped her anyway, then as punishment for "giving up" her chastity, he struck her down, his wings withering to mere burnt appendages as he did so, and his eyes becoming dark, his soul twisted. I imagined him being a sort of demon of temptation, always looking to spoil the souls of those he once would have protected. Looked kind of like Mid-Boss from Disgaea.

Also, I can't believe in the course of a day, a thread was made and almost immediately went straight to the third page...

I love the idea of a woods man, aka ranger usually, I myself am a hunter and I like the idea of a person who can survive in the wilderness by themselves, that is why i made this character, in the furutre i may make a character such as an elven ranger more of a bowman because I love bow hunting but for now "bash em guud and bash'em hard is my motto =D

Reiko... you should so bring back your time-travelling treasure hunter. She could be friends with Mikami! :D

And I have a fist-fighting catgirl on another site. She hasn't really gotten far off the ground, but I'm thinking of bringing her back... as a Fist-Fighting Ramen Vendor! In fact, I'm in the process of revising her profile as well as creating a sig banner of her new job. Myao Myao!

I dunno why this thread got so far in just one day. I just created it out of curiousity...>.<

Eternium was originally going to be so much different than he is now. First off, he was going to be an underground martial artist, who did lots of fights at the Zirndem (apology as its prob. spelled wrong) in scara brae. After that he would roam the lands seeking people who could train him and maybe send him back to Earth. But wow, look at him now.........

Sorahn
10-19-07, 09:55 AM
I've had several ideas for characters that I've thrown around in my head. None of them stick quite as well as Sorahn does, but sometimes I can draw some inspiration from them. Who knows? Maybe I'll make one of them one day. Although I'm rather proud that I'm one of the only oldbies (>4 years) who has only ever played one character.

Anyways first I've always really really wanted to play a mentally unstable person. Like totally nuts. Man that would make for some interesting internal dialog and perspective. Might even write that one in the first person just to make weird descriptions of things. I'm afraid he'd get a bit too confusing though, and also might lack some personality (or maybe have several of them?? lol)

I also want to play as a girl. Just to see if I could do it. It'd be interesting playing as the opposite gender.

I really want to play an evil character. I've always played as Sorahn, who is a real "do the right thing", honorable type character. Sometimes I just really want to play a character who just... does bad things. lol Kidnapping, murder, bribery, pirating, smuggling... all sorts of fun stuff. I might make this character someday if I could ever flesh one out enough to be multidimensional.

I had this idea for a character that would actually be super-powerful. Like I want to roleplay as a lesser Thayne (for those of you who are familiar with the Thaynes). Obviously a god is a bit too powerful for a level 0 char, but what I want to do is have his/her power restricted down to being a level 0. You know, the whole "trapped in a mortal body" and power restrictions kind of thing. So rather than the conventional method of starting off weak and gaining strength and abilities, I would be starting off superpowerful, but limited to level 0 and slowly regaining strengths and abilities that have always been there.

I still might do these or some combination of these in the future.

Bullet Witch
10-19-07, 10:10 AM
I did something like that Sorahn, with this character (btw if you didn't know I'm Seth_Rahl). She is an uber-witch who's abilities and powers were restricted by someone mysterious, who also sent her to Althanas. Her powers are returning with time. :) Also, MageBlade has a character who was a god who got sent down to Althanas and had his powers restricted, you might wanna check him out.

Y'know, that's a really cool idea. Of course, his ammo would be limited, but imagine if it was on Earth or something, where he could have almost unlimited ammo from the sheer amount of smokers. In any case, cool idea.

Lets see...well I think I should mention my first ever character on here, Seth Rahl, the sephiroth look-alike and first user of mine of fire. Ever.

I had another Seth Rahl in one of my books who could use control and create fire too.

I've recently begun designs in my head for a shifter character. Basically, a person of mixed lineage between pure human and natural lycanthropes. This lineage would manifest through the ability to shift his or her form slightly, matched with a mental shift into more animalistic mindsets. This is based off of the shifter race of the Eberron setting in DnD.

Similarly, I'd like to make a character using another Eberron race. The warforged. A man of metal and wood, animated through magic. Unsure whether he even has a soul, he sets out to find a place in the world.

Meh, I'll probably never use either one.

Saxon

I've had several plans that have to come to pass without a lot of worthwhile results. Some of the most notable have to be the zombie giant Brutus whose master is trapped within his decaying flesh after being killed by a mysterious assassin. The twist of the character was that upon escape his dying mortal form, the necromancer plunged into Brutus so that he might be able to bewitch himself another body. However, the assassin did more then kill the necromancer, she snatched the face off of Brutus and trapped the new-found lich inside the body of his servant. I will probably have another form of these two incarnate in some of my written work in later years, but I doubt it'd be something this small.

I'll go with something a little more recent. I fleshed out a time traveler known as Jericho Oz. He and his lover, Katrina, were searching for a way to stop the end of the world by traveling back in time and attempting to learn and piece together the events that had caused it to happen. Functioning in both the present and past, the two lovers operate off grid and are considered terrorists by the national government. I never managed to write much farther wtih it, but as with all my unfinished characters, they'll be cannibalized and used in some form or another later on.

Another idea I had was of a doppelganger. The whole shebang. Unable to control his shapeshifting, the creature would have to avoid the gaze of another in order to keep himself from shapeshifting. His or her body was made of a quick-silver like substance, and it donned a mask that was sutured to it's face in order to keep a sense of normality despite it's innate ability for radical change. I never really found a reason to use this character, but it was also attributed to many stories including the incarnate of the assassin who stole Brutus' face. I'm looking into the mythology of the Changelings after seeing a lot of it appearing lately in books and on television.

I've had other ideas pass me by. A time traveler whose face was held together by an iron skullcap, a priest who hunted vampires, and about a dozen forms of werewolves, one included a hero that had silver running through his veins. I'm certainly a dreamer. =P

Omg thank you for bringing this zombie of a thread back to life.

My most recent character/idea I have actually been working on for several years. I don't want to post the entire idea on here, but bassically its an end of the world situation where God and the Devil are forced to work together. The main characters are:

Ifrit, from here, except a hundred times stronger. Wields fire and darkness.

Shiva, the Executioner: An angel who doubts her own existence as she defies both heaven and hell for her own personal gains. Wields holy and ice.

Samantha: a girl who had an alien symbiote fused within her at birth, she is an expert martial artist with immense strength. Her abilities come in the form of gravity control and earth manipulation.

Bruce/Seth: A blindfolded warrior with a sentient blade, he posesses a darker side that he tries to hide but fails often due to his own self-loathing. Wields white lightning and wind itself.

Eh, I've had plenty of ideas over the years. Some have panned out, some haven't. Most of them I have at least attempted to work with, though. There was my plant-race guy a few years back (think Spar from Breath of Fire II), and I had a vampire once... neither of those really went very far.

I've had one more idea for a long time now, but probably won't do anything with it for a while yet. Lately I just don't have the time for more than one character. Hell, I haven't even have the time for one character for the past month. And sadly enough, that one character isn't even my main (read: this one). ^^;; What can I say, I just love Christina too much.

Ah, character ideas. I've got a few of them. Of course, they don't have the un-used reason of power. Nope, their reason was that I don't even use this character enough to warrent any other to idle away. I liked them, tho'. They were different, but each had other reasons for being a bit eeeeeh.

Gwm, the Fuath - The gentle, giant pacifist. He was based on a very particular version of the Scottish vough which had a spiked, clubbing tail. C'mon. That's just wicked-bad. The twist was, he was good. Inspired by stories of terrible monsters redeeming themselves and earning a soul, he sets out on a mission of good deeds. Of course, being a large, hideous, and clumsy brute who terrifies folks at the mere site of him kinda put a kink in his goals. I had this whole set-up all planned out where whether he kept on the righteous path or went totally sinister would be determined by his treatment from other PCs. Of course, I'm a heavy action writer, and I couldn't see much quests where a non-warrior could accomplish much for me. So, he was back-burnered.

Shloka Sholrk, the Mongrelfolk - Keeping up with my hideous, inhuman characters, Shloka was originally a DnD PC who... never got used. Because of this, I thought out other ways to apply his form. He was a mongrel, a mixture of most any humanoid race common to the land. The result is a horribly lumpy, ugly, and squat freak. He hid his nature behind a full face mask and goggles, leaving only his mangled ears exposed. The best thing about him was his weapon: the war rake. Scythes, axes, and flails got military treatment, but the humble rake was skipped over. Well, I couldn't let that happen! His downside was the fact that beneath the coolness, he's... pretty much just a thiefy rogue. That's boring, and pretty much Bimblesnaff. I already have one of those.

Frederick D. Greenborne, the Four Fingered Fiend - The most monstrous character in my repertoire is, oddly enough, human. Freddy D. had a strange and mangled past, mostly where he was left in a forest as a babe, found by monsters who planned to raise him as livestocked, and lived in fear of being eaten until adulthood. His hook was that he didn't use weapons. Everything he picked up as needed and tossed when done with. He wasn't used since he was too heavily developed for an interactive system of character development. That, and he appears in Dungeon Delver, a series of short stories.

The original concept of my Chracter Wizo was basicaly an all magic user with no sword skills at all. Damn powerful for a lvl 0 when it came to spells, but got killed several times in close combat. Had to change that to a warrior/mage type with few spells and moderate combat.

Though I sometimes wish I had my original chracter.

Mink got approved on althanas and was going to be a decent character, but I soon realized I had written myself into a permanent corner because he can not pull out weapons from his bag, but anything you attack with can be considered a weapon. bummer. Too Many...

FireFox - The Fox Anthro Pyromancer that was a womanizer. Good concept, just didn't have the time nor the patience to flesh him out fully. The person he was tied too is gone now, so I doubt he'll ever come back.

Valentine Snew (Known as Father Snew on this site) - A joke character made at Sei's behest to mock the high leveled Valentina Snow. Didn't quite work out so well, and I doubt I would have had the wit to make it truly work. Still he's around, just not a very good concept at my part. DID get a few laughs out of it though...

Alex Vitae Wizard Adept - My own attempt at making an Ertai Clone from Magic the Gathering Lore. Ertai was such a badass, too bad my charrie didn't work out...

Braig - Didn't work out, the people I was going to quest with left, and I just don't have time to flesh out the character well. As it is its taken me forever to finish my story with Seth.

Skarsnik - Based on Skaven from Warhammer fantasy, I just could NOT get into character, which was so sad cause I feel bad to Damion Shargath who made a ratman along with me...

Then there was the Blood Mage who was possessed by a demon. The only problem was he was so one dimensional he worked better as an NPC than a real character. I forget what I called him, but it was just not working out as well as I would have liked.

I probably have even MORE failed projects, I mean there was the shapeshifting Demon amongst other things, just...didn't work out.

Yeah he was cool. The cigarette thing just oozed badassery without being uber powerful.

Anyways, I've had so many abandoned storylines with Damon, its not funny. I'm actually surprised how many storyline related things I've actually had him complete.

Note though how he's gone roughly 7 (if not more) levels without rescuing an NPC who was sucked into a hell dimension 3 years ago though. I was planning a huge interactive solo to save her, but it won't happen that way. A lot of the functions that were going to her went to Sevviel, an angel who Manda made up for a single quest, but then I took and used a lot more.

Welcome to the jungle, we've got fun and games.

I was considering about making a Dark Knight character, but I didn't know how to do that without making him too generic. Paladins just don't go for me either. But I do know one thing I am going to do....I'm makin' a Sorceress. Not a new character mind you, but mah Bullet Witch is going to be it.

I just read Terry Goodkind's last novel -- just came out. I wept. I laughed. I nearly pissed my unsoiled pants. And now I sit here, filled with visions and ideas, when the realization struck me--this was his last book. And then I cried some more. So yes, in tribute to Terry, Leigh is going to turn to Sorcery. :)

I just realized something: I have another unrealized dream character/idea.

A while back, I created this Redwall like world in which different kindoms of animals were at war with one another, so think of FF12 except with animals. Now, I made a character named Lance on there, and he was a cross between Ifrit and Beniiro here: a black panther cat wielding twin giant falchions and a pycho attitude.

It was a cool idea. But I never got it written down.....T_T

I have so many character ideas streaming through my head it's hard to bear. I'm being serious, not exaggerating. Sometimes it's almost too much. Especially being on a site like Althanas, so I'm like "Ooooh character idea! *light bulb* Let's make him on Althanas!" And of course, if I did that each time an idea popped into my head, then I would have like 15 characters on here at least.

One of my cool character ideas, for whom I already made an account on here, was Stuffed Fury. A badass teddy bear with a boyish attitude and a pair of miniature hand crossbows. I thought it was awesome. It's fun playing him too.

I also thought of a katana-wielding dwarf samurai guy (still wondering if I should make him on Althy or not) that could like, do flips and stuff. That'd be kinda funny.

Some of my other absurd and outta-whack ideas (these are vague, the real characters on paper that I have are much deeper):

- A human-size catfish that could breathe on land and conduct electricity with it's whiskers. o_O

- A squirrel ninja/mage that understands language but can't speak it. (I seriously wanna put him on here)

- An animated pen that had the power to float and draw images/characters in the air that could animate and fight/do things for it.

Etc, etc. All the 3 above I still wanna put on here, but then I'd have too many peeps.

I have a blind character who's just so frustrating to write that I'm about ready to give up on her. She's pretty inactive lately, though. I might have one plot twist in her future, maybe. But if that doesn't work, then she's probably never going to be heard from again.

Note: if you want a blind or sickly character, make them blind OR sickly, not both.

Anyways, i've been heavily influneced by Bleach in alot of things, and when I saw Renji in his bankai form three things came into my mind.

A) Duuuuuuuuuuuuude, sweet picture! He looks all demonic and...stuff.

Then...

B) O my friggin (insert random deity here), I could use this as a plot bump in Ifrit's storyline! He could be ifrit's brother or somethin' or other...must save this....

And after all was said and done....

C) My god I am such a geek/nerd.

Wow. And I thought I had some weird ideas.....Negative EXP? I don't see the point, but ooooooookay.

My Ifrit vs Eternium battle is still coming up. Should be cool. I have an idea, but.......I'd have to talk to you mods about it first. Nah, it doesn't have anything to do with character fusion, but with the Citadel itself....I'll put up the idea in the Word section.

It was supposed to accentuate the character's strangeness. I mean, we wrote a history of a cooked fish with the greatest emphasis being on riparian battles during his life as an actual fish. Sometimes, the idea is to do something unique for its own sake.

And like Adam said. Best character EVAR!

I once existed on a forum where there was a ham sammich as a character, he was pretty glorious. On the topic of unrealized characters, odd as it sounds, I can't think of any that I haven't realized in some way. Now, characters constantly pop up in my head, and demand I flesh them out, but they tend to get either eaten into other characters, or places in some way or another into other projects, books or video games or whatever.

There are characters I think I didn't do justice, who I played or used but they didn't really get developed right, like Kyle, my fork-tongued one-legged mechanic. But he'll get his day some...day.

And too be fair, I have some pet characters who I really love, and deserve to be a main character somewhere, but are relegated to secondary PC or NPC in whatever project they get borrowed in. Poor guys. Don't worry Tacit, maybe when I have a character really high level here who has to die, you can eat their experience and exist!

My favorite unrealized concept was a guy who used nothing but magically-returning hackey sacks. He'd end up collecting an arsenal of all kinds, and had all these crazy moves and gymnastics and such. (For lack of a better example, it'd be like Blitzball in FFX.)

He was pretty wicked.

Does anybody remember some mod (Silence Sei, if I'm not mistaken) that created a cooking cactus as a character on Althanas? Like, a very old incarnation of Althanas. How awesome.

I have so many unrealized characters. Two other characters I registered here, FAMFRIT and Eleazar, bore me. I didn't bother going on with their stories. I need inspiration to keep me going with a character, as anyone else.

-Elven priestess with a heavy Zelda influence.

-And an assassin type character, but I forgot what her race was...

So yeah.

Like certain others above me, I have large numbers of unrealised characters, such as a Celestial Dragon trapped on Althanas.
(Celestial Dragons are, as their name suggusts, space faring dragons. They cannot survive on a planet in dragon form because the atmosphere is too heavy for them to bear.)

An Aquamarinian. Aquamarinians can be seen as NPC's in my Octopus in the jungle thread, I'm fixin to fully introduce them sometime today in a post. Basically, their Octopus creatures with powerful minds. They can't survive on land for too long without their suits.

Props to whoever dragged this thread's rotting corpse out from the grave, stuck it on an operating table and shot it full of lightning and win.

I've got a bunch of characters that may or may not see the light of day. After I made Bevel, I toyed with a bunch of ideas before finally settling on Alcyone.

One of those was Pennyweld (http://deviousjmv.deviantart.com/art/Penny-and-Vince-90454293)(click for picture), a character I'd been fooling around as on City of Villains. Basically, she's a steam-powered automaton. She's well intentioned but kind of a walking safety hazard, because she doesn't realize that the cuddly meatbags around her don't really fare too well when you hug them with industrial force, or that your metal skin's about eight hundred degrees or that your leaky cylinders shoot jets of scalding steam all around you. I realized she didn't really have a personality beyond the standard 'Pinocchio' complex all constructs inevitably get, so I mothballed her for the time being.

There's also Vincent the guard (same picture) - you know, the guys that get mowed down like crazy in any evil characters' (and some good characters') RPs. See this one (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?t=6210), for example. Basically, he'd be your joe-schmoe working man with a family to feed and a love of his hometown. I imagine he'd be jaded or cynical seeing all his mates get cut down on a daily basis. Considering he's entirely mundane (no superpowers or magical ability), he actually stands out among Althanian characters. I still might play him.

Lastly (of the ones I can recall for now, at least), there's Agatha the geomancer (http://deviousjmv.deviantart.com/art/Agatha-the-Geomancer-90461541). You can probably tell by the picture that she's too powerful for a level zero, but she seemed pretty interesting nonetheless. Since nobody plays villainous elementalists besides pyromancers, I figured I'd make a goth-esque geomancer lashing out at society with golems and rockfalls and things. She's a shut-in and a cripple, with her legs bound together and withered since she can't walk. Instead, she uses her geomancy as conveyance with golems and rocky thrones. I imagine she'd make a good antagonist to a RP, especially considering she's dangerous when cornered (http://deviousjmv.deviantart.com/art/Agatha-Vs-Vince-90474573). >:-}

To whom may read this: You prolly know this already, but steal this idea/use it without my express permission is going to earn you a boot in the ass, and a lawsuit. especially since this idea is copyrighted on my dA account.

See, I always wanted to use this character idea here(or more like story idea entirely) but i've just never been too sure about it. and it wouldn't take place in Althanas, which i suppose isn't an issue, but here it goes:

"I know not what weapons we will use in world war three, but I know for sure that world war four will be fought with sticks and stones."
- Albert Einstein

That sort of helped inspired this. The setting is beginning-mid WW3, and the main character(female, mid-late twenties, fights in the war but she isn't a soldier) is defending some broken town that has an underground base that is controlling communications, so its an important place to bomb for the enemy side. But at this point in time, they have developed a bomb that on impact, releases a chemical that freezes the blood of those who inhale it, killing them. The main character that we have is carrying a homozygous set of the Delta 32 gene(people with this gene in homozygous form are immune to the black plague and HIV/AIDS) and due to this gene, the chemical instead has a different effect. it gets in her head, and the gene sort of changes the other genetics surrounding it and she survives with an abnormal effect. She wakes up, and basically what the gene did is it gave her the ability to see water molecules. what's more, if she puts her hand in the water, neuron cells will exchange water through the pores of her fingers, and so long as her hand is in the water, she can control what it does since the brain neurons can have control of them. So for example, if she puts her hand in a glass of water, she can tell the water to form around her hand in the shape of a spearhead and freeze. If she puts her fingers over an open wound on someone, she can tell the water molecules in the blood to freeze. But the water HAS to touch her hand for her to do this. not sure how yet, but she gets discovered, and basically taken to a lab for tests so that they can take that genetically enhanced code that she has, replicate it, and implant it into some soldiers so that they can have that ability as well.

She is meant to befriend the genetics doctor that is doing studies on her and taking blood samples/checking health every day/etc. but i refuse for him to save her ass, or get in some gushy cliche romance. if anything, she may up saving his ass. but moving on.

I'm not sure how to end this. This is the basic concept. What always scared me about using the idea was that i would
1) make the woman too cliche a character. I've seen so many Mary-Sues, and i've never had much experience with writing with woman main characters(something i'm trying to improve upon with althanas)
2) I didn't want this to sound like a superhero comic or make this person another cliche water bender or hydramancer like you see in fantasy novels. it took me a while to come up with the explanation of her seeing the water molecules and limiting her and stuff. (this is the only reason i paid any attention in bio. it does things to help me write)
3) I'm scared that its gotten too generic of a thing to give someone a super ability, ship them to a lab to get tested and shit, and the plot turns into escaping being the main goal. I don't want escape to be the main goal. I want something new and fresh, but I don't know what.

So there you have it. I would love to do this story with someone. But if so, then I must say a few things. One, thinking out the plot more to ensure that it doesn't turn to a cliche mess, and two, that this turn more into a novel than an RP. The 'I write a chapter, then you' style. But if that happens, i was thinking of in the George R.R. Martin style, where every chapter is in the perspective of a different character and explores something big going on with one character, and then the next chapter just passes the torch to another character. (And that we simply email chapters to one another, to keep it private)

This is an idea that I let die about a year ago, but this thread re-ignited it. Thanks Winterhair~

So...opinions? good idea? bad idea? what needs improvement? anyone wanna join in writing the epic novel?(warning:must be active on the computer enough to squirt out chapters on a regular basis)

I do like the second part a bit, though I'm not sure I'd be active enough yet. Course I've just started a Storm of Swords again because I could. I love that series.

Though one idea you could have is also to give her Cystic Fibrosis along with the gene. It would almost make her more of a timebomb then anything else. Far from fun, but it would be a fairly effective way of slowing her down.

Long story short, that was the reason why Antioch was taken off of Althanas.

Also, Lavinya was better.

OK, some comments about the water manipulator character that Mithra has trouble with.

- Starting your character description as "female, mid-late twenties, fights in the war but she isn't a soldier" almost invariably means she is a young mercenary fighting for money or some other causes. This is, perhaps, one of the most overused character class in contemporary war-themed stories. (I also fall into that pit as well. Ha.) Perhaps that was what made you feel the character might have felt cliche, although I can tell you that there are ways to write your character out of the sort of pitfalls many people tend to do.

- Don't make your character immediately likable by the majority of the cast. Too many people want their character to be accepted, even though circumstances and social standing says otherwise.

- Don't make your character do everything right from the get-go. A flawless fighter is more likely to be found in a veteran (generally over 30 as well, if not already dead) and not some "greenhorn" who looked like they just got out of highschool.

- Play around with emotional conflicts within the character itself, such as their view of the world and their religious beliefs. This could be reflected in their understanding and viewpoint about their own abilities (superhuman or not) as well as their relationship to the world around them.

- There's still the issue with her human interaction skills. Usually, someone who has been in the warzone don't normally respond well to small idiosyncracies of other people, having become "desensitized" to civilized world and their willpower leaning towards self-survival. While I am not one who has experienced the frontlines of conflict myself, I know of many people who are willing to lend me their experiences. Scout around if you want to create a realistic feel to your character, or search for autobiographies of war veterans.

- Rapid/Instantaneous Genetic Mutation is not unheard of, especially in the Science Fantasy setting (Note how I said it's not Science Fiction) and this is a slippery slope you have to maneuver carefully. There are many turns that you can make, many of them leading to cliches that you might want to avoid. One thing you might want is to avoid giving your character "beneficial abilities with nonexistent drawbacks." Nothing is perfect, the same should be for your character sheet. Perfectly-built characters exist only in fiction, and fiction within a fictional setting attempting at being realistic is just... Well, it's bland.

- The disease you might be looking for should also be related to your character's lifestyle, background and abilities. An athlete would not have lung cancer if they're not a smoker and a boxer would not normally have a heart condition. (Unless they're just starting on the career. They'll die from it sooner or later, anyways.) For this particular case, Hemophilia comes to mind as her ability to manipulate liquids could be tied into her own body's requirement to sustain injuries that would cause bleeding. The ability, thus, would act in place of naturally-occuring platelets that your character lacks to keep her from bleeding to death from a bullet wound.

OK, that's some suggestions I have for now. More to come later once you work out more details. But not too much details, though, so as to give you some breathing room in playing that character. :D

Antioch was the name of a crusader state (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_Antioch) during the 11th and 12th centuries. I've watched, played, and read enough medieval history for that.

The city has since changed its name and belongs to the nation of Turkey.

Still a makin' it a sword. Or somethin' *murmurs* But thanks, Arsene. If I knew how to put that little apostrophe thingy above the "e", I would, but alas, I do not.
Character idea I just came up with a few days ago.
Normal seeming boy comes from Earth to Althanas. We've all heard it, yada yada yada. This would go along with that idea of the kid who's a writer on Althanas.com who gets sucked in, but the main thing is his ability to warp reality. Since he used to write on Althy, he could be considered a "fallen god" of sorts. At first, his only real ability is to be able to reach into "Eth-Reality"(hehe, ethereal reality) and create weapons from the souls of his friends, but as we all know he would get stronger and be able to do crazy shit like dodge bullets. Wee. The One, anyone?

Dammit. Ah well, originality is hard to find these days, eh? Don't worry about finding them.

Never understood the stink over the name, myself.

Although, Arséne's answer is the appropriate inspiration for the name.

And I just started playing the World of Darkness tabletops with some friends - we mesh all of the White Wolf stuff in that line together, but I adhere to Hunter: The Reckoning. I kind of have a hankering to make a badass character inspired by some of the ideas in WoD, but it'll never happen, so I give that idea a premature burial right here. =P

100th post FTW.
A red-headed woman who wears a white dress and carries with her a symbiote that turns into basically any melee weapon she can think up. I just was coming up with it while listening to some music.

I had a dwarven ranger once, but Yari Rafanas killed him about four years ago. Damn thief!

To whom may read this: You prolly know this already, but steal this idea/use it without my express permission is going to earn you a boot in the ass, and a lawsuit. especially since this idea is copyrighted on my dA account.

This was worth returning for.
