Oracle of Jomil
05-03-06, 03:42 PM
Name: Eisa
Age: 17
Race: Human?
Hair Color: black
Eye Color: golden
Height: 4’5
Weight: 86 lbs
Occupation: Oracle of Jomil

Personality: Originally very domineering, Eisa now is humbled and quite afraid. At one time she was used to always getting her way; she was not spoiled, simply revered. Now, without anyone to hear or speak for her and no knowledge of the world, Eisa is simply a lost little girl, even if she is a young woman.

Appearance: Full grown, Eisa is as small as a child. Small boned, and round faced, she has close-cropped dark curls, olive skin, and large golden eyes. Quite pretty, if a bit frail, her face always seems to carry a solemn expression.

History: Eisa was found in the center of the Icehenge at the Winter Solstice with a ring of melted snow around her. The priests and priestesses of Jomil took the baby in, seeing the melted snow and the fact that the terribly tiny baby girl was still alive as a sign from their goddess. The girl was raised as a gift from the goddess of unmaking, and even before she could walk Eisa began to have dreams of strange things. The priests realized though, with horror, that this girl-child their goddess had sent them, could neither speak nor hear. One young boy though, the son of a priest and his priestess wife, could somehow understand the girl and her cryptic hand-signals. They taught her more signs as she grew, and eventually discovered that her dreams were in fact prophecies from their goddess.

Eisa grew slowly, always tiny and seemingly frail, and therefore she was protected and coddled by her guardians – as much for her frailty as for her skill at prophecy. She seemed never to be wrong, although a few of her prophecies seemed to importune dark and dreadful futures which frightened the servants of Jomil.

One night, at the age of 16, four months before her seventeenth birthday, the oracle prophesied something that directly related to her. She feared to reveal her dream to even Galas, the man who had been her translator since he was a child. Finally, she succumbed to his pressuring her for the truth and told him what she had seen. He rushed to the priests to warn them of the girl’s fate, and the fate of the temple.

“Eisa has seen something which will happen very soon. A dream in which she saw the temple destroyed. All of us were killed, she said there were.. spiders… very large spiders who wrapped us in silk. She said they had no faces, and she is terrified now.”

The priests knew what this meant, but they did not want to believe this, and chose to do the foolish thing they sometimes did when she prophesied something frightening. They ignored it. Their oracle, who had never been wrong, had prophesied their death at by the deadly Spidermagi of N’jal, and they were too scared to acknowledge it, or to do anything to prevent it.

Three days before her seventeenth birthday, the oracle’s prophesy became reality. That morning Eisa had the same dream she’d had four months earlier, and although the priests had told her not to fear what she had seen, she knew that her fate was upon her. The girl hid, running from the temple and burying herself in the snow at the foot of the largest monolith at the northern corner of the Icehenge. She remained there for three days, praying, dreaming, and drifting in and out of consciousness. When silence finally reigned, she emerged shivering from her icy tomb, and looked upon the fruits of her prophesy.

The temple had been destroyed, and the priests lay rotting, in so many pieces. But the girl had only one desperate thought, and that was to find Galas. She searched the burning ruins of the temple, and finally found him, in the small chamber where she sat to prophesy. At least she thought it was him. He looked different though, with spider-silk hanging from his extremities, and his skin rotting from his bones. He clung to her divan, muttering her name. When he turned his face on her though, Eisa knew that he was no longer the Galas she had known. Fleeing the temple, the oracle left everything she knew, praying to her goddess that she would survive the harsh Berevarian winter long enough to find civilization and escape the hordes of N’jal who surely hunted her still.

Skills:
Prophecy – As an Oracle, Eisa has dreams and visions which reveal facets of events which will happen in the future. Without words though, her visions are not always straightforward, and are occasionally full of symbols and cryptic meanings.

Sign language – Being a deaf mute, the Oracle is especially good at hand signals. Unfortunately, hers are signs which she created as a small child, and were typically understood only by Galas. Some are obvious, but most are difficult to decipher.

Impervious to cold – As an infant, Eisa survived the Winter Solstice in Berevar. As a teenager, she hid in a blanket of snow for three days to escape the wrath of N’jal. She successfully traveled in little but a gown and fur cloak through the wilds of Berevar across the land bridge into Salvar.

Equipment: Little but the dress and fur cloak she escaped with – the oracle has no weapons, and no shoes.
