Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give you equality or justice or anything. If you're a man, you take it.

Personality:
Meet him and find out for yourself.
Appearance:
Eyes that shine with an inner fire. Hair as black as the darkest ale. A stance that exudes confidence, yet simultaneously betrays great weakness. This is Jack Abruzzi.
His jaw houses several days worth of stubble, and the dark rings around his vibrant eyes betray his sleeplessness. His hair is trimmed neatly at the shoulders and his muscular body appears well taken care of. The smell of cooked meat and cheap whiskey seems to follow him wherever he goes, exuding off of both his patchwork clothes and olive flesh. His features are decidedly average, even if they are a bit exotic.
His teeth stick out like a sore thumb. They’re bright alabaster – a rarity in medieval societies.
History:
“When I was just a boy, bandits came and slaughtered my parents over an unpaid… what, you did’n think I was serious, didja? I never knew my folks. Ever since I can remember, I lived at the orphanage. Miss Jenn – the caretaker’a the orphanage, a sweet ole lady – treated us all pretty good. There was this gal, Vivian… ah, nevamind. Movin’ along, I was adopted by my Uncle Paulie. I thought his name was funny, but he was anythin’ but a joke. Turns out he ran a little ‘family business’. They dabbled in everything – murder, smugglin’, extortion, the works. He took me in to be his personal hitman. Gave me a piece, told me who to shoot, and bang! I did what my uncle told me.
‘Round midnight on my birthday – I was twenty-one. Finally old enough t’drink. Was on the way back to Paulie’s joint after a job. All the sudden, bam! There was a loud crash, and I blacked out. When I woke up, I was in this goddamn muddy field in the pourin’ rain. Ruined my fuckin’ coat. I wandered around in the wilderness for days. The heat drove me crazy – I kept hearin’ voices in my head. Kept repeatin’ my name over and over again and babblin’ ‘bout my soul. How crazy is that? I was a fuckin’ loon. Found my way to a town after a week or so. Figured out where I was, and since then I’ve… adapted… to life in this hell-hole.
What do I miss most? Vivian. My guns. The dank, fetid smell of the subways – somewhere between a cesspool n’ a pool hall Runnin’ water. Even with all these new things I’m able to do since comin’ here, life just ain’t the same. I can’t go back to my old home, y’know. I’m stuck in this goddamn place with this goddamn crowd retelling the same goddamn stories. Nobody seems to believe me when I talk ‘bout where I come from. ‘Cept you. You’re always there for me, Grigori…”
Skills:
POSSESION
Jack’s body is host to an unknown number of spiritual beings. It is a constant struggle for him to remain in control of his own body – at any given moment, one of these creatures may possess him fully, warping his mind and mutating his flesh. All of the mutations listed beside each fiend may or may not occur each time he is possessed, and all mutations will occur at the very beginning of his transformation – he will not suddenly mutate further while possessed. He will have any and all weaknesses listed, but not necessarily all of the strengths.
*We Are Eternal: If Jack is killed, his demonic personas will immediately begin repairing any and all damage inflicted upon his physical form. This takes a few days at the least and a month at most, and it’s unknown exactly what happens to Jack’s soul / consciousness / essence / whatever-the-hell-you-call-it when this process takes place.
Grigori: At this point, any physical mutations will be slight and purely cosmetic in nature and may include a slight change in skin tone, slitted pupils, and the growth of a miniscule tail.
-Manifest Darkness: Grigori is able to manifest mundane objects from nothingness in dark and semidark environments. This includes food, water, and basic equipment (everything from lockpicks to torches). These items will disintegrate if exposed to light. Only two pounds of materials can be summoned at any given time.
-One with the Night: In dark and semidark environments, all of Jack’s abilities are increased by one tier. For example, he might normally have a skill labeled ‘average’, and he would now be capable of performing that skill at an above-average level. Conversely, in light / well-lit environments, all of Jack’s abilities are decreased by one tier.
-Nocturnal Vision: Grigori can see clearly in all but the darkest of environments.
-Crush: Grigori increases the force of gravity on a single target within fifty feet of himself by a factor of 1.25. This effectively makes a 200 pound man feel like he weighs 250 pounds, restricting movement considerably and making it nearly impossible to move in a natural, fluid way. Lasts for roughly 30 seconds on a single target. Causes moderate fatigue in the caster.
Akem Manah: No physical mutations are possible… yet.
-Blind: Causes temporary blindness in a single target. Active for twenty seconds, usable only in warm (above freezing) environments. Causes mild fatigue.
-Unhinge: Akem Manah pries into his target’s thoughts and is able to determine the primary emotion his victim is feeling at any given moment – rage, joy, sorrow, etc. This is relatively useful for determining whether someone is being genuine and/or honest, but it has little use in combat. Causes no fatigue in the caster, but repeated ‘tests’ would almost certainly have skewed results.
-Dragonflesh: While mutated, Jack’s body is capable of surviving in temperatures up to 100 degrees Celsius without harm. Conversely, he is roughly three times more sensitive to cold than when in his original form.
OTHER ABILITIES
Skill Levels: Awful < Poor < Fair < Passable < Below Average < Average < Above Average < Proficient < Skilled < Expert < Master (the pinnacle of possible human achievement) < Flawless < ???
Katzbalger (short blade): Used only as a last resort. Skill Level - Fair
Crossbows: Skill Level – Above Average
Pistols: In his former life, Jack was trained to use a variety of firearms. Due to their scarcity and exorbitant price in Althanas, however, he’s all but abandoned his former pastime. Skill Level: Above Average
Hand-to-Hand: In his former life, Jack got into plenty of fights, but lately he hasn’t been honing this skill quite as diligently as he did previously. Skill Level: Passable
Stealth: Jack’s become adept at moving without being heard over the years. Those who suspect his presence are capable of locating him, but the unsuspecting are rarely made aware of his existence. Skill Level: Average
Lockpicking: Another necessity for a man who spends his days sneaking into and out of crime scenes. He can pick most simple locks within a matter of minutes. Skill Level: Below-Average
Horseback Riding: Jack is able to ride a horse, but he lacks the skill to use them in battle and he absolutely hates the animals. Skill Level: Poor
Swimming: Jack cannot swim and has a deep-rooted fear of being in or around large bodies of water. Skill Level: Awful
Equipment:
Weapons
-Steel Katzbalger (shortsword, 30”) x1
-Light Recurve Crossbow (Ash)
Handheld, lightweight, and easy to use, this is Jack's weapon of choice. Capable of piercing most lightweight armors of lesser quality than iron. Accurate up to 40 feet. Takes roughly 10 seconds to reload, making it incredibly impractical to use at close range.
-Current Ammunition: 12 iron-tipped bolts
-Arbalest (heavy crossbow) (Yew)
Jack’s secondary weapon. Much more powerful than the Zhuge Nu – this is capable of puncturing steel plate, and it is near-impossible to dodge, in addition to being deadly accurate up to 100 feet. However, this weapon takes roughly 45 seconds (and a great deal of effort) to reload and can only fire one bolt at a time, making it something of a one-hit wonder in duels and small-scale combat.
-Current Ammunition: 10 steel-tipped bolts
Armor
-Studded Leather Tunic worn over a
-Steel Chainmail Hauberk
Familiars:
Grigori – Cynical, sadistic, bold, and bloodthirsty. He provides Jack with insight and advice constantly, although the usefulness of his ‘advice’ is debatable.
Akem Manah - Intelligent, charismatic, cunning, and manipulative. He is a direct rival of Grigori for control of Jack’s soul.
NOTE: I urge anyone who scenes with me to tell me immediately if they notice me switching tenses in the middle of posts. It’s a terrible habit I’ve developed, and I desperately want to drop it.
