Caine Raienbark
11-21-07, 01:53 PM
Name: Caine Raienbark
Age: 27
Race: Human
Hair Color: Musty black
Eye Color: Gray
Height: 5'9”
Weight: 177

Personality: To attempt to define Caine's personality is a daunting task. For the most part he is a carefree, calm, and polite individual. He rarely speaks out of turn and does his best to avoid unnecessary conflict if at all possible. Many find him to be most personable. Although he is neither loud nor obnoxious, he enjoys a crowded atmosphere in which he may be surrounded by those who are having fun. Caine feeds of their happiness and finds himself in an all-around better mood because of it. When it comes to danger, Caine does his best to remain calm and think his action's through. He is subtle and swift in combat, often thinking ahead as much as possible to plan his next step. He does not enjoy direct conflict as much as a planned and well organized attack, though he will defend himself and his beliefs adequately, should the need arise. He is a strong believer in vigilante justice, but also respects authority to the best of his ability.

Appearance: Perhaps the most defining trait that one would first notice when looking upon Caine Raienbark is the fact that the bottom half of his face is covered with a scarf. The feature that this scarf covers is quite grotesque, and he prefers to keep it concealed at all times. His nose is thin and slightly crooked, as though someone had broken it and Caine had never bothered to reset it. His gray and thin, though not in a threatening way- on the contrary, they seem to bear a resemblance to the sky just before it pours down rain. The kind of gray that touches the sky when there's a promise of snow in the air. As for his hair, Caine lets his short wavy hair rest lazily upon his head. He makes a point to never let it grow out of control so that one would not mistake him for some sort of barbarian. It lays gently on his forehead and seldom blows in the wind, a feature that he is all too aware of.

For the rest of Caine's body, a thin leather tunic protects him from the elements. It is pock-marked with scratches and bruises where Time has not been kind. Only a thin pale shirt separates his bare chest from the leather, sometimes causing skin irritation. On his legs Caine wears tight leggings, over which lays a thin leather skirt to add further protection. All of his armor was made with mobility in mind, as his thin frame does not hold up well to heavy and cumbersome armor.

As for additional clothing, Caine's hands are wrapped tightly in thick cloth straps, so that while keeping his hands both warm and flexible, he is also able to wield a bow or sword with little trouble. Draped over his shoulders is a thin cloak that has a dark green hue, which serves both as camouflage and cover from the elements. At his waist rests a long thin dirk of low quality and poor craftsmanship. Finally, his most prized possession, Caine's hand-crafted oaken longbow is strapped to his back along with his thin quiver of arrows.

History: Born to a rich and noble family, Caine Raienbark had little to worry about as he grew up. He, like most children of his upbringing, knew nothing of the conflict and danger that lay outside his walls. His parents had enrolled him in the most prestigious of academies, they served him the most delicious of meats, they purchased him the most extravagant of clothing, and they pampered him in every other way possible. It remains a wonder to some to this day why Caine Raienbark ran from his home. Rumors of his father having an affair with a chambermaid, rumors of his mother's attempted murder of his father, and many other things began to circulate as the reason that this boy of noble blood would relinquish everything he had to get away.

Much of the reason he ran away still remains a mystery to Caine himself. Perhaps it was the fact that he knew very little of his outside world and only ever caught minor glimpses of the brutality of others. Perhaps it was the fact that he sought more in life than simply sitting around all day while others bettered humanity. Perhaps it was simply an innate craving for adventure. Whatever the reason, Caine found his life after his escape much harsher than he had imagined. Only 17 when he had chosen to run, Caine had been robbed, beaten, and enslaved by the time he was 22. Only when he had finally come in contact with a single person who was able to help him did Caine begin to understand that there was more to life than brutality and hatred.

Under the tutelage of a man who had purchased him from a previous slave owner, a man by the name of Ursinius Telregard, Caine learned of his uncanny marksmanship. Telregard dazzled Caine with stories of his stints with the Coronian military and his squad of longbow men. Caine yearned for such adventure himself, knowing that he could prove himself a champion should his longbow skills ever reach the height of their potential.

Caine spent years with the man known as Telregard, and learned much in the ways of combat as well as Althanian history. He found that in the five years he spent with Ursinius, he had learned more than all his schooling combined in his previous 22 years. Of course, such grand times could not last. Due to the training that Telregard had granted Caine, the old man was beginning to fall into debt. Feeling extreme gratitude to the man who had saved his life and taught him so much, Caine felt the need to leave his friend in search of his own glory.

And so Caine set off into the vast world, intent on proving himself to any who needed proving that he would be one of the greatest marksmen ever to grace Althanas.

Skills:

Marksman- At this point in time, Caine Raienbark has above average ability with a bow. He is still no match for a trained longbow user, but his raw abilities are fairly good. Caine specializes in long-ranged accuracy, and becomes progressively worse the closer the target is.

Melee Combatant- Caine has basic knowledge of how to use his dirk in close-quarters combat. He has the ability of a common thug, though is easily outmatched by anyone with proper training.

Equipment:

Hand-crafted Longbow- A specially hand crafted longbow with a groove and grip fitted perfectly to match Caine's hand. It holds no special properties and is made out of cheap oak, but he prizes it as it was made by himself and his tutor. The name 'Raienbark' is neatly carved into the inside curvature of the bow.

Quiver- A roughly-made quiver with 30 arrows, made from oak.

Dirk- Low quality blade made of steel. Slightly blunt.
