Name: Gavin Lazuli
Age: 17
Race: Human
Hair Color: Auburn
Eye Color: Green
Height: 6'
Weight: 170 lbs
Occupation: Adventurer, danger seeker, and dashing hero
Personality: Well, I'm a hero at heart. I have a taste for excitement, but more than that, I care about people. How could I do less that my absolute best for the people who are worse off than me? I'm a philanthropist, really. People have said I'm intelligent,
talented, and that I'm witty. I've also been called kind and understanding, I'm full of empathy. Women find me confident and charming. Now, you might've heard someone say I like to… Color the truth, which is ridiculous. Jealousy, I suppose.
Appearance? Odd question. Dashingly handsome is probably a good way to describe me. Long hair like spun copper, eyes like an emerald forest, sparkling and mysterious. My armor, sleek planes and odd edges. With lacquered brown plates carefully strapped and balanced, over black cloth and plated black leather gauntlets. Add to that my cloak, rich mellow blue wool; I cut a rather good figure. Plus I’m not stick thin, or overly muscular, more whipcord and lithe, like a cat.
I think my little silver and crystal gyroscope hanging from my neck and the compass hanging from my belt are nice little accents. What? This thing on my forearm? Heh, must look a little odd, arcing metal ribbons, caging an aluminum frame? Well, never you mind. Call it an affectation. A decoration, and we’ll leave it at that.
History: Heh, a lot of people have asked where I’ve been, but not many ask where I’ve come from. There isn’t really that much to tell. Grew up in a manufacturing city in Alerar. Yeah, I know. Not that many humans there. That’s ‘cause it isn’t easy for humans, but we were still there. My father worked for a master artificer, did basic stuff, small bits for the Master’s bigger projects, making trinkets the master was too busy for, that sort of thing.
Growing up there, I learned the work, of course. When I was sixteen or so, my father comes up to me. I could see he was uncomfortable, father was never one for being wordy. He looked me in the eyes, and said to me “Son, the simple truth is you’re too talented for a place like this, we both know it. The work I do here is meaningless, and you can be much more. I want you to get out of here, to go and fulfill your potential.” Might not’ve been those exact words, but it was something like that. So I took his advice and headed out into the world.
Skills: Growing up in a workshop, Gavin knows how to tinker, repairing or building minor mechanical devices. However, Gavin is a mediocre inventor at best, and has little real talent for it. –Below average-
Gavin’s father was always disdainful of standard weapons, swords and axes and such, considering them primitive and savage. As such, Gavin was taught how to use more ‘modern’ weapons, rifles and pistols and such. Gavin is average with most guns, but it doesn’t do him much good since he doesn’t have a working one anyway.
The only other weapon Gavin knows how to use is his crossbow, and he’s about average skill with it. He can use other crossbows, but since most are bigger, and work rather differently, he’s at best below average with them.
Gavin is a very talented working of magic, but he can only use his magic by focusing his power into working mechanical objects. He has to believe the object would be reasonable to channel his magic though, or he’s incapable of making it work at all. On top of working, the object also either needs to have some special connection to him, or function in such a way that the magic can fold into it well.
He can only really perform three spells at the moment. Using his gyroscope, he can create either light from the crystal core of the gyroscope, or he can use it to erect a barrier around himself. He can also use his compass to direct him toward things other than north by magicking at it.
Equipment: Gavin has a suit of steel plate armor that’s specially crafted using specialized weight distribution straps and specially molded plates to allow increased mobility and decreased weight over regular plate armor, however it’s not only harder to repair, if the straps are damaged, it’s much more cumbersome than standard plate.
Gavin has a kit of artificer tools, kept in a pack. It contains various tools and supplies for minor repairs of small gadgets, trinkets, and widgets. He also has a small silver gyroscope with a crystal disk center hanging from a chain on his neck, , and a good compass hanging from his belt.
Attached to his right forearm is a specially constructed compact crossbow. Closed, it's folded in on itself, and no larger than the length of his forearm, and two inches high. If he releases a lever, the crossbow will fold open, a handle will fold out for his hand, and it's loaded via a level and pulley system built into the casing. The case holds four bolts before needing to be reloaded. His crossbow is smaller and less powerful that most, a slightly weaker light crossbow. He has a quiver of crossbow bolts the correct length for his crossbow hanging from his belt.
Lastly, Gavin has most of the pieces of a broken revolver he's been fiddling with.
