Althanas periodically hosts a number of tournaments to challenge its players. Tournaments come in a variety of different formats including 1 v 1 battles, 2 v 2 battles, "Gisela" battles, event battles and even quests. The spoils for placing in a tournament have included extra EXP, extra GP, a personal sub-forum, a region, and a power group headquarters.

Formats
1 v 1 : This classic format pits one player against another in combat. Often times the 1 v 1 battles are linked with event battles (characters switching bodies in the Oxfordshire Open, for example). The only tried and true 1 v 1 left in the rotation is the Serenti Invitational, which is considered the premier Althanas tournament.
2 v 2 : Like the name suggests, 2 v 2 places teams of two players against one another. The most famous 2 v 2 tournament is the Lornius Corporation Challenge (LCC), but recently the format has popped up in a number of event style tournaments.
Gisela Style : This format usually puts armies of NPCs against each other in war styled play. The format is named after the Gisela Open, which first introduced army battles onto Althanas. Gisela battles have since crept into the Pagoda, Citadel, and the Theater of War are a must try for all Althanians.
Event Style : Event tournaments usually modify one of the three standard formats to give them new kicks. Some examples of event style tournaments are the Lawdy Familiar, placed characters familiars (or pets) in 1 v 1 combat against one another; the Oxfordshire Open, which caused characters to switch bodies (and abilities) for the duration of the battle; and the Conquest Trials, which utilize all three formats with 4 player teams each representing an Althanas PG.
Quest Style : Quest style tournaments are exclusive to the Alerar Hunter's Invitational. The tournament is run very much like a featured quest. Players are placed into teams and work together to achieve a common goal. At the conclusion of each =round, the team with the highest overall score advances. When they are four players remaining, they are put against each other in the finale.
