Amber Eyes

Amber Eyes joined Althanas in January of 2010. She has been on the staff since the fall of that year, and enjoys writing primarily with her main account. She is currently the Althanas OOC and News Moderator and has been in features and the Bazaar in the past. She can be reached via PM or on AIM where her username is jessilynngardner. She has several alts, but none of which she enjoys more than her main character-Kyla Orlouge.

Kyla Marie Orlouge began her journey on Althanas lost and alone. She spent much of her early life traveling with a group of bandits who discovered her in the woods near Cheateau Drantrak shortly after the town was destroyed. She learned to guard her race as though it were a shameful secret. Kyla looked the other way as the adults in her life robbed and killed people for profit. One day the men asked Kyla to convince a group of girls to come to a party at the barn where the bandits were squatting. The scene turned sour moments after a bit of booze was brought into the picture and when one of the girls, Sophia, rejected Talarni, the meanest of the group, she was brutaly murdered. Kyla was told by the leader of the bandits and the closest thing she'd ever had to a father figure, Zander, to run away. She left and spent the next several months trying to discover her identity.

Certain words from her childhood haunted the young girl and she finally found out that "Orlouge" was the name of a family living outside of Radasanth. Kyla tracked down the patriarc, 'Silence' Sei Orlouge, a gifted telepath and vigilante. Sei Orlouge figured out quickly that Kyla was the daughter of his eldest brother Niche who became a hermit after the annialation of his hometown Cheateau Drantrak which resulted in the death of his entire family including, he believed, his five year old daughter Kyla. Kyla reunited with her father, but developing a father-daughter relationship after years apart was difficult. Kyla decided to remain living with Sei, who took her in as his own. She quickly developed a close kinship with Sei's daughter Anita, and eventually with the two sisters the family adopted, Emma and Ella.

The young girl completed both the light and shadow trials, two magics that were never meant to mix. The combination would lead to near-instant death if not stopped, luckily Kyla's uncle was able to save her by giving her a magical anklet that keeps Kyla alive, but also severly weakens her abilities. Kyla dated recklessly during her first few years at the tomb with Sei and ended up getting her heart broken when she left Jensen Ambrose. During her stay with Sei, he found a prophecy involving nine individuals who would save the world. He began searching for these people, and forming a vast army. A castle was built to house the soldiers and generals and over time the group became known as the Ixian Knights.

Kyla was found to be one of the nine and was placed as the head of the investigations team. Kyla needed a break from military life and traveled through Corone. She got involved with a group of shady characters who convinced her to complete an unspeakable spell, annhialating most of her race. Kyla became violently ill after performing the spell and ran to Salvar to escape the people who now hated her for her acts. When she reached Salvar she was taken in by her uncle Steppenwolf, who nursed her back to health and realized that she was pregnant. The spell she cast destroyed the future of the mystic race, save the inventor's own line. Since the person who created the spell was dead before its casting the only way to carry on his leniage was for Kyla to become pregnant with his child. When Kyla was well enough she returned to Ixian Castle and gave birth to her son, Akiv Orlouge.

Kyla enjoyed being a mother, but adding a child to her life only futhered the pain she felt from being alone. She longed for her long-time boyfriend Jensen and found it unbearable to see him with his new family. Kyla eventually had a romantic weekend with the immortal during a time when he and his girlfriend were fighting and when he chose to return to Stephanie Kyla ran away. She used Stephanie's first name and Jensen's last as she traveled, hoping that having a new identity would still her pain.

Kyla awoke in a strange hotel with no knowledge of her identity. She once again found her old home, where the members of the knights tried to help her remember. Sei sent Kyla and her sisters on a trip to visit each of her uncles in hopes that someone would be able to help his little girl. As she traveled throughout Althanas, Kyla was greeted repeatedly by different pictures all signed with the initials KMA. Also, each of her family members gave her a different trinket that she had asked them to hold for her in case she ever appeared 'lost.'

When Kyla returned home she discovered she had locked her own memories in a vial, just in case she chose to reverse her own spell. As she contemplated returning to her former self she recieved word that her son was missing. The entire army focused on his recovery, finding no trace of the toddler.

As Kyla searched for her missing child, a war raged in Corone. The empire defended itself against the rangers, each side intent on controlling the continent. After months the war torn country could take litte more abuse. Sei Orlouge chose to focus his army's might on defeating the remaining units fighting within the country. He hoped to put an end to the pointless fighting and create a government that gave the citizens some choice in who governed them. The fist battle of the war brought great losses to the Ixian Knights, not the least of which was Kyla Orlouge's capture by a cult led by a former member of the Knights.
