History

Some twenty-one years ago, a babe was left on the doorstep of a temple. The clergy quickly discovered why: when she cried, the world shook. In their fear, the priests offered her up to the patron god of the temple—Vehir, Thayne of Law and Justice—in an ancient ritual unused in centuries. That night, she inexplicably vanished.

A host sent by Vehir had come to collect her, and she was given the name Daziel. She was raised as an attendant in one of the myriad temples to the Thayne. She received the best in historical and liturgical training, though she always felt ill at ease that there seemed to be no other young people like herself.

As she grew and entered puberty, her innate magic began to become apparent. One incident that remains crisp and vivid in her memories was when a messenger cherub from a neighboring temple came to call. He was handsome and striking and a bit of a rascal. He had coaxed the young Daz out of the temple to explore the vales and creeks nearby. Only much, much later with the benefit of hindsight did Daziel really understand what was happening. She had never known another being to be so playful, and she was captivated, but it became too much for her. She became overwhelmed and lashed out, a searing blinding light surged forth from her hands. The cherub spent weeks in the infirmary recovering.

Her tutors floundered, not knowing what to do with her, and she was eventually transferred to the care of the Archangel Valyndras. They were a wise and beneficent keeper, but it felt to Daziel that she was indeed being kept. She was discouraged from interacting with her powers and was instead counseled to practice willful restraint and abstinence, to tamp her emotions down to avoid any more such dangerous outbursts.

In time, Daziel grew restless, and as her twenty-first year ended, Valyndras came to her. "Vehir sees you, and your place is not among us. You are asked to return to whence you came, Althanas, and act as Justicar of Vehir. You will be his Justice incarnate."

She refused. She had grown to feel isolated and untrusted, and she railed against Valyndras saying, "Your Justice is horrid and beyond callous! It cares only for the greater good, hells to the people hurt along the way! I wish to leave, but under no yoke of yours."

"It is entirely fair that you feel that way. It takes we of both perspectives to ensure that Evil does not triumph. We still ask this of you." And so, Daziel was sent back to Althanas where she now grows restless and uncertain the longer she does not hear from her superiors.

Appearance

Slight of build, with wavy, platinum-blonde hair that she normally wears loose to her shoulders.
Wears immaculate white robes over a mithril breastplate (light enough to hide) all over a simple white shift.
Tends to wear heavy hoods, helms, or a mask at all times, allowing only a view of her nose and mouth.
Her eyes (if visible) are a striking sky-blue shot through with quicksilver.

(Secret!) She wears a mask to hide the particular features that mark her as non-human; her forehead, temples, and cheeks bear a unique silver scale-like pattern. The same patterns can be seen on her shoulders extending down her back over her shoulderblades, in an almost wings-like shape.

Skills

Divine lore - While resident on Phantaria, Daziel received extensive tutoring in knowledge of the Divine: the history of the Thayne, major players, their general goals, etc.

Intuition - Daziel has an innate ability to see through deception and to discover the (almost) truth of things. At the moment, she is new to exercising this skill and really only has an above-average ability to sense that deception is occurring.

Literacy and Learning - Daziel's extensive tutoring means that she is fluent in both the Thaynian tongue and Tradespeak, and she is moderately quick to learn when she applies herself.

Abilities

Healing magic - Daziel is gifted at the healing arts and can adeptly cast healing magicks. Casting these spells comes at a price however.

Cure Light Wounds - 3 times per day, she is able to heal herself or another of cuts, bruises, or scrapes, or she can stabilize a more serious wound.
Lesser Restoration - 3 times per day, she is able to cure minor natural ailments, poisons and diseases.

Abjuration magic - Daziel can limitedly cast some defensive magicks.

Shield - 3 times per day, she can reactively deflect an incoming blow or magical attack. It does not negate a strike, it just directs it away: the strike could still hit another target nearby.

Spark of the Divine (subtle spell) - Her magic is sometimes manifest as a miracle rather than actively-cast. She can cast minor magics without performing any verbal or somatic elements, she is able to do this 3 times per day

Equipment/Weapons

An iron-bound oaken shield painted with the crest of Vehir.
An iron scimitar.

Hello there!

And welcome to Althanas!

I'll be your friendly neighborhood faun/admin to get you through this realm of greeting to get your character approved.

I'll have a look over it today/tomorrow. If you have any questions about the site, now it's a great time to ask.

Also hi friend ;)

Hello there!

So I just have a couple of questions about your profile, and then we can look at getting you approved.

Under 'Skills,' you state that with 'Intuition' that Daziel has a 'supernatural' ability. Is this more like an innate sense of deception rather than magic?

Under 'Abilities' Healing Magic looks to be okay. The poisoning and disease curing - would this eradicate the disease/poison entirely? And can she use this ability on herself?

Under 'Abilities' again, 'Abjuration magic' this is quite powerful even for a level one. Could you possibly define a level for these deflected magical strikes - for instance the type of strike (is it just direct attacks or does it include assaults to the mind/debuffs) and could you limit it to deflecting strikes of limited level (e.g. for characters of her level + 1).

Your 'Spark of the Divine' is absolutely fine.

Please feel free to ask any questions based on this. Thank you very much :)

Hey!

I've edited the Skill and Abilities to make them more specific and explicit. I've addressed the questions you raised and made those balance tweaks to Abjuration.
