A circle brings promise...

He stood barefoot on the fields outside of Stonevale...where it all began for him.

When the lands of Ayenee and Althanas folded together and one of Ayenee's own sons was sucked through a single gateway.

Fate would have Miranda, the mistress, intervene that day and knock Archanex out and take him into her fold.

Through much personal suffering and torture the old sorcerer grew strong...learning the secret teachings of his people worked on Althanas...

He stood on the field, barefoot having earned his freedom after using his power to save Miranda from a group of undead assailants.

To save the master...to always save the master...

He was deep in thought, the shirt portion of his robes and other supplies were on the ground. For an old man he was in incredible physical good shape, a boon of his people's blood.

It was a warm summer day, many years after the cataclysm that took place. One of the children of Stonevale spotted the old man in the field and ran towards him with his friends.

"Look, that is one of Lady Miranda's servants." The boy said to his friends. "He's been there for hours."

"What do you suppose he's doing?" Another kid asked.

"Wizard stuff I think." The first boy said. "Dad said those folks are daft folk sometimes. Live in books and scrolls."

But here was something that caught the second boy's eyes. A glowing hubris, he alone could see in the group...the second boy was gifted. "I feel something familiar about him and his magics." The second boy said. His eyes were wide with a fierce curiosity unique to the students of arcane arts.

There was a primal nature about the magic the old sorcerer conjured. It was not Althanas born, it was not connected to the tap in anyway. It was from an entirely other source of power... The second boy could see the arcane hubris around the old man...there was a fierce glow the others could not naturally see. The second boy began to approach the old man without fear, no, there was almost an anticipation.

"Don't!" The first boy yelled in fear, but they were all watching with a fascination and hunger for knowledge.

The second boy approached Archanex. "Teacher..." The boy said carefully to the old man.

Archanex blinked for a moment, he'd been in deep meditation for several nights in a row. Without food or nourishment of any sort. His eyes opened and he saw the gathered children, he'd not been called that in a very long time. Many generations by standard Althanas reckoning. Archanex looked at the gathered children. "What do you all seek, young ones? I am an old man but if you want knowledge I can teach you knowledge." He said carefully, there was a sort of humble kindness in the old sorcerer's voice.

The second boy walked over towards the old man. There was no fear, only a profound respect. "Teacher, you have knowledge that we might learn from. Will you teach us where the rest of Stonevale will not?" The boy asked of him.

"Seek knowledge my boy, and you find knowledge. Archanex knelt down for a moment to be level with the children. "This is good soil, good earth. A place of power lurks here." Archanex said. "There are lay lines and knowledge everywhere in the soil. In the wind that blows, in the fire that burns, in the water that nourishes life. One can hear it in the wind itself, whispering to you it's ancient whispers. It's secrets." Archanex said calmly. There was a surprising gentle nature in the man's voice. After a moment, the orphaned children of Stonevale sat down around the old man. "Lesson one..." The teacher began to train a new generation of Overmages...
