The Second Floor [EVENT ROOM 2]

The second floor of the Iverstead Estate houses a dozen guest suites and his own private quarters. Hands of the Lord stand outside each of the guest suites to issue passage and protection should they choose to borrow one for the night. Each guest suite features a king size bed and a massive wall of only windows to give way to the sparkling outdoors. The moonlight pours over all the ornate furniture and lavish interior of the rooms. Snow glistens and shines over an expanse of expertly trimmed hedges and marble statues barely illuminated in the moon's light. These rooms fill one side of a walkway with an expertly crafted rail to the other side. beneath, the entryway and hall all guests entered remains some ten feet below. At the end of the walkway is a pair of large doors that lead to Iverstead's private quarters. The contents of which are nothing short of the best a Salvic lord can offer.

Sounds of commotion faintly rang up to the second floor. The muffled panic rose but for a brief moment before falling again to its muffled norm. Footsteps echoed down the halls. Doors opened and closed. Glass shattered. A thud sounded. Then silence fell.

Shouted commands from the guards in the ballroom resounded through thick wooden doors. Then, the low droll of voices gave way to a stampede of armored guards down the hallway of the second floor. They seated themselves one per every other window and the entryway below the balcony slammed shut and barred closed. Information barked from one to another, and the guards scrambled to lock down the estate.

A murder has occurred in the ballroom.

Lye enters from The Ball Room
Nobles familiar with the layout of Iverstead Manor opened the doors to the hallway of the second floor. They flooded down the way and began to settle in various places along the guard rails, near the walls, and some entered suites for privacy. Lye stood just beyond the door and halted. He looked back to see if his quarry would remain in tow or succumb to the chaos. In a way, he also wondered if his presence alone would earn the attention of Stalt and his Mage Hunters.

The thought put a scowl on his face.

He glanced down the hall and set his sights on a room not yet disturbed by the hands of others. After a moment, he would choose that as an area of refuge until the storm settled. Guards or not, Lye could leave at any moment. Lady Fae kept him tethered, and the dripping curiosity of what dark secrets this event held rooted him deeply to the manor. In this chaos, Lye stood to gain so much. Notoriety, connections, intel... Lye knew a wealth of opportunity remained, but his reputation now became the glass they walked upon.

Lye waits for Fae, Tobias, Mage Hunters, and/or guards that may have some questions.

“You’re not very good at this, are you?”

Jamie (as graceful as ever) kept pace with John as they walked across the room. Statesmen and nobles chatted easily in nooks and crannies of the gilded parlor that gave way to the suites. Gentle light suffused the room, giving it a warm feeling at odds with the stuffiness of it all. If left on her own, Jamie would have glided around as if on a cloud. She’d have read the room, sidled up to the most influential people there, and made them feel at ease. It didn’t surprise John that a former prostitute could have a talent for reading and responding to subtle cues, but it did feel a little at odds that she’d have learned the skill while he did not. Then again, his Salvaran titles had been stripped from him nearly twenty years ago, so there was that. She poked him in the ribs.

    He spared her a glare.

Please relax, dear,” She said, returning her hand to the crook of his elbow.

“Hard to relax when you’re the least welcome person at the party,” He grumbled, lumbering toward one of the rooms. The sooner he was out of this coat, the sooner he’d stop walking like a golem. A particularly clumsy golem.

As they reached one of the rooms and John ducked his head to get through the doorway, a shout rose from somewhere near one of the stairways.

    Murder

John’s skin prickled. Here? Would they think John was to blame? There was, after all, a good reason he was stripped of his titles. He locked eyes with Jamie, she understood his past better than most. She knew as much as he did that he’d need to be there. She sighed a little and tugged at his coat, planting a kiss on his cheek.

“I’ll be along in a minute, but leave the coat, ok? You know how many tailored coats we’ve got at the house that fit a seven and a half foot tall man? One, and only because I dragged you to the tailor,” She said, smirking a little as she touched up her makeup a little.

“What, you’re scared for the coat but not for me?” John asked, struggling with the stuffy coat. How many buttons did the damned thing have? He eventually managed to untangle himself from the thing, and left it on a hook as he tried to seem nonchalant walking towards the stairwell, descending. If there was a murder, he needed to see the body. He needed to make sure it wasn’t the friend he’d come to meet.

    John moves to the ballroom
