    Moros Level One

    Basic Information ~

    Name: Moros
Also known as: Mor, Doomsayer, Seer
    Age: primordial
    Race: primordial
    Gender: 'male'
    Height: 6 foot 6 inches
Build: muscular, over exaggerated in some places
Occupation: vassal to his brother Morningstar (primordial of power) and blacksmith, and oracle

    Personal ~

    Appearance:

Chocolate brown hair, with greying tints and deep grey eyes. It comes down to his collar bone, and is slightly ragged, usually with a couple of accidental dreadlocks hidden beneath. He looks like a powerful man - and that is because he is. He has a significant build, with broad shoulders and strong legs. His features are like one of his race, so handsome and pale. His skin is vaguely grey in places, and he supports two small horns nestled in his tousled hair. Usually he wears a cotton shirt with loose trousers and a leather jerkin over the top.

    Personality:

Moros is everyman's hero, he is kind and compassionate. His attitude to life is slow and steady, with a positive outlook, despite what he is and what he has seen and Seen. He has a good heart and prefers the quieter things, alongside quieter and gentler people. Often called a bit of a gentle giant he is neither dim-witted nor the epitome of wisdom, yet can hold a good conversation so long as it interests him. He has a brutal honesty about him, a good sense of family and loyalty to those he cares about. He has a way of understanding words and finding ways of interpreting orders and laws in a way that suits his and his allies needs. In this way he is sharp, although he does not read much and prefers to work with his hands.

    Skills ~

Languages: Morks knows several languages, having used them in his work during the running of the oracle at Delphinus Currently he knows common, infernal, hadian, raiaeran, aleraran, fallien and fae.

Blacksmithing: having been a blacksmith now for many centuries he has expert to instinctual knowledge and skill in the art of the forge.

Words: Moros has significant skill in understanding language and manipulating both commands, laws and advice to his and his allies' needs.

Sword fighting: Moros knows something of how to defend himself with a sword. Though he prefers words over anything he can use one..

    Abilities ~

    Agelessness:

Basic immortality - as a primordial Moros cannot die unless his entire body has been destroyed. If he dies of something that would naturally kill him then he will come back to life six hours later. He does not age, looking around 40.

    The Sight:

Moros can, with limitations, See into the future. This includes being able to See up to a century in advance of what is going to happen.

    Rules about his Sight:
    • Moros cannot control the Sight or what he can See. It comes when he least asks for it, and his visions can last up to an hour. His only warning for his Sight is a feeling of acid in his throat, followed by a stern headache and lastly his eyesight going blurry. This process takes ten minutes.
    • When he is Seeing Moros is entirely incapable of defending himself. His eyes will go white and he will go prone in whatever seat or other he has found himself. He can very easily be killed or harmed.
    • His visions are almost entirely of negative occurrences. They often precede things such as large scale battles, world-changing catastrophes and life-altering events. They do not have to be about him, but can be about a close ally or friend. The only exception to this rule is if the vision is about a world-changing catastrophe.
    • Moros can experience (for standard writing thread purposes) one vision per day. In combat threads this is limited to one before a fight. In story threads this may be many depending on the plot. The only exception to this rule is if Moros is experiencing a world-changing vision (see below). Out of character: In these threads what he would see is entirely dependent on agreement and discussion with the other party and cannot lead to automatic hits. Instead it would effect such things as environmental and knowing an aspect of the arena in the citadel (what it might look like, for instance). It could predict what type of action might be coming from an enemy, but not fully predict the line of the assault. (See fate and fortune point below).
    • Like much of foresight, Moros' visions are mostly dependent on fate and fortune, showing only a possibility of what could happen. The only exceptions for these are in the case of the world-changing event that he sees, which appear far more vivid and last vastly longer than the standard vision. These are much rarer, however, and the closer the world-changing event is the more frequent the visions will be. World-changing here means any event that significantly alters more than one quarter of the lives of the population of the world, or alters more than a quarter of the world's environment.
    • A standard vision lasts up to ten minutes.

    The Ken of Ill:

Moros instinctively knows if something is evil in terms of alignment or intent. This is not to do with any gift of foresight, as per the Sight, but is attributed to if he directly meets a being. He must meet them face to face, be at least ten feet away from them and be in that position for up to three seconds. The evil intentions are also entirely dependent on that person's opinions and Moros cannot tell to whom or what the evil intention is towards.

    History ~

Moros was born, like all primordials, before time initially was or was ever marked. Like his hundreds of brothers and sisters he stepped out of Erebus fully formed with the purpose of serving the Old Gods. He was born knowing two things - that his name was Moros, and he was the essence and embodiment of impending doom, fated forever to foresee the worst that is going to happen.

Within that time span the primordial Morningstar enacted his rebellion, choosing to believe that the primordials were as good as the Old Gods. Moros, not being one of keen combat at the time, tried to back out of any fighting, instead taking a stance alongside his kin who decided to be impartial. His visions, however, soon marked him out as a valuable asset for both sides, and despite trying to stay out of it he was sought after for advice as well as alliances. His work took him alongside the Morai, the triplet sisters of Fate, often enough, and it was as this strange resisting being of advice that he remained for some long time.

That was, until the Great Calamity occurred, taking with it all the Old Gods. And it was then that Moros was forced to begin thinking on his feet.

Soon the world became filled with new gods. First the Thayne rose, and after them more pantheons and singular gods and demons deities, all of them looking to Moros and his Morai sisters whenever they needed to seek guidance. The four of them, plus a few others who had the gift of foresight, made a home for themselves at the mountain of Delphinus, which became known as the home of Oracles.

It was here that Moros stayed for some thousand years. During this time he learnt both wit and wisdom, becoming the forefront spokesperson for all the visions that went through Delphinus' walls. He learnt how to use people's words, and to resist both the threats they brought as well as the more absurd promises. He read through people, he saw the lies and the truths and the falsehoods. When someone tried to order him and others to do something, using whatever authority, he calmly negotiated. His greatest skill, however, became that when a promise or a tryst had somehow been made, either by mistake or deliberate, for the aid of those gifted with foresight at Delphinus, and he managed to find ways each time around the wording.

One link that he did make was to a great deal of demons and devils, who found his darker visions more intriguing and useful for his own gain. Through them he made connections with around half of the underworlds, as well as to Hadia itself.

It was at this time when Morningstar came to Delphinus, and saw Moros' skills. He then asked if Moros would be interested in working with and for him, having through all those millennia amassed much power and influence. Moros refused then, stating that his place was at Delphinus, and apologised, and Morningstar left, saying that if Moros' mind were ever to change then he would be willing to assist.

It was then that several wars eschewed. These were terrible ones, that wrecked the face of Althanas as it was known at the time. Violence came into the area during the rise of the drow and the creation of Alerar, effectively but not deliberately destroying Delphinus in the process. Homeless for the first time in a long time, Moros travelled far and wide, at first using his ability to make a living, and then being feared, and then despised for this. He ended up needing to run for his own safety, and came into the home of the elf Har'vael, a blacksmith by trade who was lonesome and pitied him and his plight. He taught Moros his skill, as well as how to fight and how to live well and secretly in the realm of mortals. They took up residence together in the north of Raiaera, in a town called Snowbourne.

This life kept Moros going for some centuries, and he travelled a little, meeting primarily with his sisters the Morai, and also spending some significant time between the underworlds and in Hadia, using his original connections. He learnt a good deal of how death worked in various cultures and religions, using the knowledge to aid some of what he saw. That was, just five years ago when Har'vael died from an old sickness.

Lost, Moros went to find his sisters. He found them after a few weeks and in service finally to his brother Morningstar. It was lost in that grief, and feeling a lack of purpose that Moros was finally persuaded to give his loyalty to Morningstar's expanding influential service. He quickly became one of the Small Council and struck a deal that he could continue his work and life as a blacksmith, back in the same forge and house in Snowbourne. He now works as a consultant and adviser to Morningstar, a local blacksmith to the small village and local farmers and a point of contact for those who seek future knowledge and know of his power.

    Equipment ~

    The forge:

Moros lives and works at the forge left to him by the high elf Har'Vael in the small village of Snowbourne, North Raiaeara. Here he makes an honest living and also does a minimal amount to spread his brother Morningstar's influence.

    Sword:

As a blacksmith Moros is able to gain access to materials aplenty and has an iron sword. However, he rarely goes out with it being majorly a non-combatant.

    Hammer:

He's much better with a hammer and owns a set of iron ones (three in total). These, however, are for work and not the best in combat.

    Hi Moros, welcome to Althanas!

On first look, your profile looks okay but I do have a slight concern when it comes to one aspect of "The sight".

Moros can experience (for combat writing thread purposes) one vision per day. In combat threads this is limited to one before a fight. In story threads this may be many depending on the plot. The only exception to this rule is if Moros is experiencing a world-changing vision (see below).
I presume from reading this that Moros effectively walks into a "P v P" thread armed with some sort of clairvoyance about what the opponent might do? If so, I would need to know how this would work fairly for both players. One thing we are tasked with is to eliminate scope for abuse or powergaming when it comes to abilities, and whilst I absolutely trust you not to do it, I can see that (in its current wording) you could potentially use this skill to avoid any chosen attack at any chosen moment in the thread, without prior warning, citing that you "foresaw" it before the start of the battle.

Again, no slight on you at all, I am absolutely sure you have the best of intentions, but please do clarify how this ability would work for competitive threads.

    Hello

I have clarified this point with the following:

Out of character: In these threads what he would see is entirely dependent on agreement and discussion with the other party and cannot lead to automatic hits. Instead it would effect such things as environmental and knowing an aspect of the arena in the citadel (what it might look like, for instance). It could predict what type of action might be coming from an enemy, but not fully predict the line of the assault. (See fate and fortune point below).

Note further: this is a Phi alt, aiming to make a sort of Oracle based on the myth of Moros from Greek mythology. Since I have other characters more combat suited it would be very rare that I used him in combat.

Thanks, Phi. I'm happy with the clarification, so you're approved.

I'll add your gold as well.
