Mikael Leviasi ia Saiph | Level 1

    General Information:
    Name: Mikael Leviasi ia Saiph
    Age/: 167
    Race: High Elf
    Hair Color: Silver/White
    Eye Color: Piercing Azure
    Height: 198 cm
    Weight: 70 kg
    Occupation: Noble’s First Son
    Birthplace: Tor Elythis, Raiaera

    Personality:
Mikael was forged on top of an anvil and crafted to be a perfect heir to his Family’s long list of Noble House Leaders. His edges sharpened along with much of his outlook, morose and sullen were his normal day to day emotions during his schooling years. His compassion and kindness were treated like impurities with iron ingots in need to be forged out to produce quality steel.

But as the atrocities of the world continue to mount, the Corpse War in particular nearly caused a scandal within the Noble’s home as the heir and his parents argued. Mikael slowly began to break pieces of the mold his family had attempted to conform him into, but for how long or to what extent?

    Appearance:
Fair skin, groomed hair and a pair of astringent deep blue eyes. His lips often pressed together to either a straight line, or more so often a frown.

    History:
Mikael was born as a twin son to the noble household of Leviasi ia Saiph, but he was first to emerged by forty seconds and classified as the ‘older’ brother by technicality. Afterwards, much of his time was spent enjoying the small wonders of this home around him, along with his brother and later in many years, his sister. The three siblings enjoyed their moments together but with the looming threat of war, their peaceful days numbered, and soon Mikael was thrust to his position as First Born, and heir to the title of Family Leader.

Neither twin brother minded the situation at first, both saw it their duty to serve in whatever capacity to their family as it was their responsibility. Being the heir to their family provided much in the way of fame and power, but it came with even greater shackles of heavier responsibility than either brother truly every desired. Thus Mikael accepted the situation for what it was and told his brother to not have too much fun as an Elnaith horsemen without him once he was done with all his lessons and studies.

Soon tutors of economic and political theories dumped their years of knowledge into his young head, from the importance of understanding value and practicality then followed to reinforcing the ideas of their heritage and status as High Elves. Even as war continued to escalate between the High Elves and Drukhari (Dark Elves), any interest to join up with the effort of fighting were stifled as he was reminded that his home city needed leaders just as much as it needed warriors and soldiers. His studies were doubled to keep his mind occupied but this only served to ferment the growing resentment within Mikael.

The years would not alleviate his desire to stretch his wings and apply his lessons, but once again his parents shut the doors for such opportunity and recycled the same excuses as before; but this time their resolve and determination were tripled as the onslaught of the conflict, later to become known as the Corpse War, escalated to greater devastation. The sheer destruction and loss of life was only ever told Mikael by selective reports, but the whispers of a true terror reached even his ears. His brother had already volunteered to assist with the relief effort during the war, but Mikael was barred from such decision to help his own brother. Once again he was refused and kept even under tighter lock and key, but the Corpse War would soon see an end. Ravaged and ruination may have befallen the lands of Raiaera but the High Elves survived.

Years would pass on to give all the time to heal, but yet the destruction had been near total, and many cities remained as husks, depleted of both life and glory. When his sister had returned back to their home, this had not caused much jubilation as one would have assumed from the two siblings that hadn’t seen one another for such a long time. This of course was mostly due to the lack of time available for Mikael to even purchase an opportunity to greet his younger sibling. But Mikael also held small amounts of resentment, both of his siblings were free from their parents and allowed to roam without the shackles of responsibility to their household and become whoever they wished to be, all the while Mikael believed himself a prisoner to his family.

He was given no choice but to become a Family Leader, all due to the fact he was born before either of his siblings. Mikael had all but stopped his communication with both of his siblings, figuring that his excuse of his studies were keeping him far too busy would be enough for either of them. Tragedy struck their family though, and Mikael felt himself fall further into his dark abyss when news of his Brother’s disappearance and later the funeral pushed a grief unto Mikael that were beyond words. The funeral held for his brother gave Mikael time to think, even as there was no body of their brother present to bury, Mikael believed in his heart that his brother was still alive. He wanted to never go back into that darkness of despair of grief, he couldn’t let himself believe his brother was truly gone.

Months afterwards Mikael had been given more freedom and after a meeting with his parents they had explained the sudden change to his schedule. Mikael was to be betrothed to an heiress of another notable noble family. His parents fortunately had decided to let their son to have more time to himself and they had assumed he would even seek out his future significant other and meet her family. Of course Mikael had been taught about such procedures, instead though what his parents found was that Mikael had taken this chance to leave, and not just their home but their city as well at the first opportunity. To avoid the scandal from spreading, it was explained that Mikael was sent to help out his sister that had left the previous month to explore more of the ruins and provide aid.

Mikael dared himself to explore the world outside the walls of his cities at least once, and avoid any tithes to his duty for as long as possible. His brother was waiting for him.

    • [Skill] Swordsmanship: Classically trained by tutors and other swordsman instructors, Mikael was given every benefit to grow his weapons of training that focused on his natural traits of being graceful and dexterous.
    • [Skill] Bowman: The bow and arrow were another weapon talent pushed for Mikael to learn and master, his training revolved mostly of the shortbow variants but care was taken for Mikael to learn how to handle the longbow along with firing while riding a horse.
    • [Skill] Elven Family Magic: One of the many important lessons drilled into him for decades, the understanding of his family’s old magic lore to begin the basis of his true magical potential.

"Any fool can know, the point is to understand"-Mikael's Tutor upon repeating himself

    • [Ability] High Elven Traits: Natural Beauty aside, Mikael benefits from natural grace and strength of his species. Better control of his center of gravity, making the most difficult of acrobatic maneuvers look effortless. Twice the athleticism that of a human, with the accompanying agility as well. Though wearing heavier armor sets, anything past leather and some chain link armor, would dramatically decrease such natural grace. Aside from such natural grace, his eyesight allows him to see even within the dimmest rooms, but details are sacrificed the further he attempts to see within the dark, his limit to his sight reaches sixty feet, with thirty being where he can only manage to distinguish shapes.
    • [Ability] Glyph Warding: The ability to inscribe/enchant any item with a glyph that may activate upon touch from inscriber himself, once activated any prepared spelled will activate. Mikael can only ward one item with one glyph at any time. Resets upon applying new glyph, even if applying to the same item.
    • [Ability]Spell Barrier: Aurient's Blessing. Upon activation, a small barrier extends that cover the majority of his body. Nearly translucent the Spell barrier can stop projectiles and other non-magical attacks from reaching Mikael. The force of impact is dispersed across the entirety of the shield and can last up to twenty minutes or when blocking a stronger magical attack and or Weapons made anything past Steel; half the time. The degree of which it blocks magic is dependent on the level disparity between the two spells, should it be far greater the barrier can collapse on itself and the spell broken. This also includes weapons forged from materials as Mythril. The barrier, if unbroken, will take one day to recharge completely.
    • [Ability]Guiding Light: Aurient's Guide. When applied to an object the spell allows the user to determine both the intensity and color of the light produced from this spell. The effects can last up to an hour, regardless of intensity of the light. Can be cast up to three times in one day.

"If you have to stand and fight, you train yourself so that you're able to do it." - Mikael's Combat Instructor

    Equipment:
Rapier - Puncture Type Weapon, made of iron
Shortbow - Carved from wood, and inscribed beautifully with his family’s sigil
Heavy Leather Armor - studded and thick leather padding to help with blunt impacts but light enough for Mikael to both maneuver and run freely
Quiver of Arrows - Wood stock, iron tipped Arrows
Cape - Carefully crafted help conserve warmth and keep the worst of the elements from reaching any exposed skin.

    Familiars:
[Pet] Horse: Unnamed Horse, as Mikael did not have the luxury of time to pick out or figure out his horse’s name. The horse’s name is Momo should Mikael ever manage to learn it.

Hey there, Mikael! I'm here to help get you started on Althanas. When we do the skills and abilities for a character, we separate them by: "is this something the character inherently knows how to do, or a type of knowledge the character has" or "is this a type of magic or an activated skill, or an enhancement to a particular trait?"

    In this case,

"[Skill]True Sight: Elven Eyes allows Mikael to spot and pinpoint exact targets of opportunity, even through low/dim light and even through darkness near upwards to twenty meters. The further away though, detail becomes less distinguishable."

is an ability, not a skill.

    The same is true for

"[Skill] Elven Grace: Natural Beauty aside, Mikael benefits from natural grace and strength from his species. Better control of his center of gravity, making the most difficult of acrobatic maneuvers look effortlessly. Though wearing heavier armor sets, anything past leather and some chain link armor, would dramatically decrease such natural grace."

    As well as

"[Skill] Glyph Warding: The ability to inscribe/enchant any item with a glyph that may activate upon touch from inscriber himself, once activated any prepared spelled will activate. Mikael can only ward one item with one glyph at any time. Resets upon applying new glyph, even if applying to the same item."

Now, for Elven Grace, could you quantify that? Perhaps, twice the agility of a normal human?

For Spell Barrier, what is the strength of projectile it can stop? Iron, perhaps steel quality? For reference, the Bazaar FAQ can give you a summary of the metal tiers.

Once these edits are complete, we can move forward. Cheers!

I do have a few more questions about the difference between skills and abilities. As I assumed that Racial Traits are inherent to the character, ie Elves are naturally in-tuned with Magic and generally are more athletic than normal humans. I've noticed other Character Sheets were some more average Racial Traits are treated as Skills rather than abilities.

Perhaps I could reword them to make them sound closer to Elven Racial Traits that High Elves are generally born with?

Similarly with Glyph Warding, I initially intended it to be liken to a skill but I figured it had more in common with Swordsmanship as both require something else for the Skill to be of use. A sword is needed to make use of the skill and known spells to the character are needed for the Glyphs/Runes to actually work. Sort of like making Magical Scrolls, as the Scrolls help facilitate the ability to cast spells.

For the Spell Barrier itself, I'll include that Iron Weapons are what it is meant to deflect and higher rated metals will significantly cut short the duration of the Barrier before it either collapses or the spell breaks.

Anything that is significant enough to elevate their capabilities beyond that of a normal/average person, i.e. Strength, Speed, Agility, Defense, Endurance, etc, for example twice or three times as strong or fast, is an ability.

If you're just saying his ability to mark something exists with no inherent effects, and is a conduit for other spells I can absolutely consider it a skill.

Let me know if you have other questions or considerations.

Ah, so anything past a human baseline is considered an Ability, regardless if it is inherent to their Race or otherwise. Perhaps I'll change it to Elven Genetics, or rather keep it under An Elf's Grace so it'll be my catch all for the racial strengths (Including Elf Eyes, and they can tell me what they see).

And for the quantifiable portion, given that I'm using a human as a baseline, I'll set it to double the athleticism and agility of a normal human as suggested.

Fair point to the Glyph/Rune, I saw it in the Wiki as one of the ways High Elves express their Magical Potential so I wanted to show it in this way.

With that in mind, you're well within the approvable constraints. If there's no other changes you'd like to make, I'll move right along.

For reference, something like being able to see in the dark isn't that strong, so it won't take up much space in your ability slots. If you wanted him to be able to see leylines or read the path of a spell before it's cast, that would be much higher rates. These are just examples of progression you might take, what you actually decide is up to you. Just bear in mind that you're not married to your level one abilities by any means once you've progressed.
