Orophin Súrion and Rávion Valdaglerion -

    Out of Character:
Sorry it took so long, Flames. These two are NPCs that I've written with and that I thought deserved a more permanent position in Raiaera. Write them however you see fit, if you have any interest to do so! Ravion's info is still forthcoming, but it should be up shortly.

Also, could someone edit out the dash from the title? Not sure how it got there.

    Name: Orophin Súrion
    Literal Translation: Keen Bolt Wind-Son
Titles and Monikers: Urulócë (the Dragon of Flames), lecher, Professor Súrion, Phin
    Age: 1903
Race: High Elf, born in Eluriand
Hair: Streams of golden hair, reminiscent of flaxen fields
Eyes: Lively ashen, mischievous with traces of tempered wisdom
    Height: 5’ 11”
    Weight: 146 lbs.
Occupation: High Bard, Professor at the Istien University, Head of the Empirical Major at the School of Ost’Dagorlin

    Personality

Haughty and snotty, with an affected manner of speech. Tentative friends call him an almost insufferable prick, while coworkers are frightened by his unorthodox and possibly sadistic methods of teaching magic: the advanced songs he teaches are only truly learned when performed to perfection, and magical backlashes are the common result of mistakes in playing or singing. Due to the danger of his lessons, he was banned from ever teaching advanced classes outside of the school’s set curriculum. Like many males of the Súrion House, he has a history of lechery and adultery, but they are all known to leave no evidence, only rumors. Moreover, his personal compositions tend toward graphic lewdness, though they remain very popular to nobles and paupers alike. In affairs of true love, he is only an amateur, having only recently come to realize his feelings for Nalith Celiniel, the Lady General of Raiaera.

    Appearance

Orophin is of a lean yet muscular build, and handsome in the same way mysterious foreigners and bohemian womanizers are (except with much better hygiene). He has eyes the color of ash, full of verve and hope and even mischief, but there was still that undeniable wear of time, traces of that tempering wisdom that few long-lived races could ever escape. He is often shrouded by a cloak of regal red, lined with golden trims and a slew of titular markings that announced his rank and seating amongst the other High Bards. Most of his clothing shares the same color-pattern. He has a habit of wearing his hood down, letting streams of his golden hair flutter like flaxen fields in the wind.

    History

Orophin has taught at the Istien University for centuries before the undead invasion of Eluriand, which occurred only a few months after he launched the Empirical Major program with Aria Aerotone. Before that, he spent countless years refining his song magic, learning advanced branches of Ost’Dagorlin he was told were beyond his reach. Upon using the Melody of the First Revelation in his first year as a Winyar, he learned his elemental affinity was that of fire: it was a common element, which meant he would have greater ease learning most other common ones, but extreme difficulty in learning to control even one of the advanced ones. Despite his skirt-chasing, Orophin spent most of his youth going through hell to prove his teachers wrong. He eventually became a teacher himself, and many students sought him out for private lessons, until his night classes were shut down due to the sheer physical danger that his lessons posed.

When the invasion of Eluriand began, he stayed behind in Istien while Nalith Celiniel left for the battlefront. Believing his colleagues would easily hold the University grounds by themselves, he eventually left to seek her out and provide field assistance, but was forced to wander the country in search of her, learning only weeks later that Eluriand had fallen, Findelfin ap Fingolfin had vanished, Nalith had been made the new General of Raiaera, meaning that her position was now shrouded. For months, he traveled with only Rávion Valdaglerion, a professional Soundsmith that he saved during the Eluriand riots, as comrade.

In recent news, his name has reemerged alongside great acclamations: with the help of Rávion and one Lillian Sesthal, he succeeded in razing most of the corruption from Timbrethinil, as well as dealing a crippling blow to the undead forces that had withdrawn there after their defeat at Nenaebreth. He however reported that their general, a powerful reanimated High Bard by the name of Valainistima Lithôniel, still ‘lives’.

He was last seen in Nenaebreth with the Valdaglerion Soundsmith, temporarily emprisoned as a cautionary measure against missing High Bards returning as agents of the Black, but rumors of his quick release have begun to spread.

    Skills

Master of Instruments – As a High Bard, Orophin possesses the knowledge and skill to play virtually any instrument. His favorites, however, are the violin and the flute. While the use of instruments greatly empowers his song magic, he is also skilled enough to cast his spells with only the snap of his fingers of the claps of his hands.

Silver Voice – Orophin has achieved technical mastery of his vocal chords, allowing his songs to carry far beyond the range of normal voices. Songs empower his spells as much as instruments do, if not more.

Sword Mastery – While not the strongest swordsman, he remains a great threat even to expert warriors. His speed and reflexes more than make up for the lacking power behind his blows.

    Abilities

Melody of the First Revelation – The first melody learned by students of the School of Ost’Dagorlin in the fledgling Empirical program. It requires precise notes balanced with emotionality, and upon its successful playing, the song-mage’s natural affinity will manifest. Most create sparks of fire, small waves of mist, sudden breezes or a weak quake in the ground, consistent with the basic elements. Some, however, can manifest their affinities in the crackling of lightning, a halo of light or the flicker of shadows, amongst others. Orophin’s was an ardent flame shaped like a winged snake the size of his head.

Ost’Dagorlin Songs of Fire – As the Urulócë, his mastery of fire is renowned and feared even amongst the High Bards. He can manipulate a myriad of small flames with surgical precision just as well as he can summon gigantic spheres of flame in the upper atmosphere than resemble ersatz suns. It was with the latter that he combatted Valainistima’s summoning of a diluvial rainstorm while his companions burned the corruption down.

Ost’Dagorlin Songs of Other Common Elements – Orophin has shown expert control of wind, earth and water, amongst other less famous basic elements. While his spells in these branches are not as ‘sublime’ as those in his repertoire of fire, they are no less impressive. For one, he was able to summon a storm of wind blades from above, which scored deep into the earth and minced a horde of undead to shreds (while the shockwave alone tore the bark from nearby trees).

Ost’Dagorlin Songs of Advanced Elements – He has also shown expert control of light, shadows and lightning. He was able to cast from little spheres of hovering light to facilitate reading, to swarms of millions of undetectable shadow ants that have a certain physicality to them, used for reconnaissance. While not often called upon, his use of lightning is said to match his slightly sadistic tendencies.

    Equipment

Mythril Schiavona – A fine, basket-hilted blade of silver and white. It is extremely light, and enchanted to endure magical and physical assaults alike. Moreover, he is known to channel his song-magic through it.

Valdaglerion Fluteblade – Recently given to him by Rávion. Crafted from an unknown crystal, this flute is imbued with the magic of Valdaglerion Soundsmiths, allowing it to transform into a fluteblade with a rapid swing or a strong grip. In its blade form, it still has apertures for wind to pass, allowing for the use of toned-down song-magic in the midst of armed combat: that is to say such song-magic would only manifest 50% of its usual efficacy. The use of song-magic through the flute form, however, enhances its effects by 75%. Its strength is equivalent to Prevalida.

Instruments and Maintenance Kits – Every instrument that a respectable High Bard should never be caught without, as well as the various tools to maintain them.
