    When a magnet enters a magnetic field, it gains magnetic force, and follows either the magnetic South, or North pole. When a magnet reaches another magnet of unlike magnetic fields (negative/positive I believe) the two connect through the magnetic fields sort of slotting to one another. However, if there are two alike magnetic fields, then the magnetic forces are equal to one another, and repel each other away.
    I think that's how they work, anyways.
    Unless this was just an ICP related joke, then I suggest you talk to scientist, because no matter how pissed off you are with these scientists for whatever reason, they are not lying.
