Out of Character:
This is a new training forum mini-feature designed to increase activity, improvement, and player interaction. This thread will remain open for a time as a FAQ so we can answer any questions you may have.

The Dansdel is an open challenge format for continuous league style competition. It rewards not just winning battles, but winning battles consistently without losses in between. Any time a member wins a battle in the Dansdel, they are offered the option of an EXP modifier or GP payout, rewards which get bigger with each consecutive win. Additional rewards can be gained by "breaking" someone else's winning streak. But beware... when a character's winning streak is broken, their reward modifiers are reset to zero.

Also, remember that the Dansdel is as much about learning as winning. Feel free to "challenge" more experienced players/writers by asking them for an In Character lesson in combat; whether it is a simple training bout or a duel between fierce enemies, all Dansdel threads will affect both players' winning streak.

Dansdel Rules and Regulations
  • All standard rules of Althanas roleplaying and battles apply. This includes our specific rules on powergaming and bunnying.
  • A character becomes registered as a warrior of the Dansdel when they make their first in-character post in this forum. From then on, you may fight as many battles as you like.
  • There are no time limits on battles in the Dansdel, but if a battle has been inactive for a month it may be annulled, and multiple annulments may cause a character's streak to be reset. There are also no limits on how many battles a character may be in at once, so be wary not to spread yourself too thin. Players may write both sides of a battle with two accounts, but abuse of this rule will not be tolerated.
  • Challenges in the Dansdel may be done OOCly in the RPC Recruiting Forum, or as ordinary open battle threads. However the unique option of IC challenges exists and is encouraged for Dansdel battles. There are several established threads in the Challenges subforum which are for this purpose, as well as casual RP. Remember that if you're making a direct IC challenge to another member you may need to send them a private message to notify them. Also be aware that the stock threads in the Dansdel will be submitted for judgment every so often, and are subject to constant IC moderation by Realm of Greeting staff.
  • Like all other Training Forum threads, Dansdel battles are subject to OOC critique and IC Moderation. However IC moderation will only occur at the request of the players, or to correct offenses such as powergaming. All OOC comments will be added out of active battles and stored in the Writers Workshop before a battle is submitted for judgment.
  • In order to qualify for Dansdel rewards, a player must provide an OOC note with a link to their most recently completed Dansdel battle in their first post, along with their current winning streak. Only a character's first battle in the Dansdel is not subject to this rule. The exp modifiers/gold payouts offered for winning battles are as follows.

    Win# EXP Option Gold Option
    1 ~~~ +5% ~~~ 100 GP
    2 ~~~ +8% ~~~ 200 GP
    3 ~~~ +10% ~~~ 300 GP
    4 ~~~ +12% ~~~ 400 GP
    5 ~~~ +15% ~~~ 500 GP
    6 ~~~ +17% ~~~ 600 GP
    7 ~~~ +20% ~~~ 700 GP
    8 ~~~ +22% ~~~ 800GP
    9 ~~~ +23% ~~~ 1000GP
    10 ~~~ +25% ~~~ 1500GP

  • The best part about these battle rewards is that when you "break" another player's winning streak you steal their reward for that battle, and their streak drops back to zero.
  • Both players must specify whether they would prefer the EXP or GP bonus, should they win, in an OOC note in their concluding post.
  • Any time a character reaches a winning streak of 10 or maintains the championship for over 6 months while remaining active in the Dansdel (moderator discretion will determine activity or lack thereof), they will be written into Althanas Canon as Dansdel Champ and given a choice between several special items, and then they must start again from the bottom if they wish to continue competing.
  • The first interim Dansdel Champ will be named when the first player reaches a winning streak of 3.
  • All pre-existing Dansdel battles are automatically incorporated into the new system.
  • Dansdel rules are constantly subject to change in the event that moderators observe abuse of the system.
