    Yew Longbows

Found some info on Yew longbows. There are other bows there but there's some average velocities, draw weights, and measurements on this site which could prove useful for profiles or weapon buying. Keep in mind that velocity varies based on the arrow weight (typically in grains). The size and weight arrows used are noted above the table.

    Just thought I would share:

    More food for thought:

Longbow averages a velocity of 165 per the chart. (Ranges between 125-180 fps and higher depending on draw weight)

Compound bow averages a velocity of 285 fps. (I've seen ranges between 185 - 380 fps) Get more here.

Crossbow averages a velocity of 327 fps. (Ranges between 295 - 400+) Get more here.

Keep in mind that the velocity is very much dependent on weight of the arrow, poundage of the draw, and length of the draw. Many of these velocities are with 500gr arrows. So characters firing all iron or other metal tipped arrows may be halving their velocities to sling those things.

Also note that velocity does not always mean distance. Heavier arrows are less affected by wind resistance, but more affected by gravitational drop over distance. Lighter arrows are less affected by gravitational drop, but easily deflected by winds and wind resistance over distance.

So for all you archers, gunners, and object/spell slingers, keep in mind a few of these things when RPing, and buying projectile weapons.
