    Tarot card meanings and interpretations

    Hey ya'll!

As many of you know I'm really getting into tarot, in life and on site so I'm going to be taking over posting on the meanings of the Major and Minor Arcana.

Also for reference sake I will be using the The Rider-Waite Tarot Deck as that is what most people use or base their deck on (our power group icon is the World Card from the Rider-Waite Tarot)

Also there is a two hour youtube video that does a good explanation on how to remember the different cards for those that really want to learn (Part 1 Part 2)
But cause ain't no body got time for that just watch 13 or so minutes but I'll summarize it for you:

*Each card can represent four things:
    1. A person
    2. External Conflict
    3. Internal Conflict
    4. An Activity or Action

*The first fourteen Major Arcana are connected to the minor by number
~for example here are the connected meaning between the Magician and the Aces:
    • The Magician means with infinite possibilities, personal powers
    • The Ace of Wands means creative beginnings, a new way of life
    • The Ace of Cups means a fresh start, new ideas
    • The Ace of Swords means resolving a situation, victory
    • The Ace of Pentacles means fresh start, inspiration

*Each Suit has it's own meaning too associated with the history of who that object symbolizes (for example swords and nobility)

Now you know cards what about spreads?

    Spreads tell a story.

Different spreads are used for certain questions or specificity of the answer. More cards create more of a story and more to interpret but are time consuming.

The following are all spreads I use:

    Celtic Cross~
This is a very traditional and wildly used spread. This is how I personally do it:
1- represents you and present position in general
2- covers you and represents immediate influences in your life
3- card focuses on your goals, aims, and destiny
4- reveals the events from the distant past that have influenced you
5- relates events from the recent past to your current situation
6- represents events and their influence in the very near future
7- examines your present attitudes and perspectives
8- shows environmental factors, particularly how people may influence you and your decisions
9- explores your inner emotions, fears, hopes, and desires
10- suggests the most likely outcome, given the events and influences revealed by the cards

    Four Card Spread~
This is a highly common quick reading.
    1~ your past
    2~ your present
    3~ your future
4~ the outcome of the question

    Single Card Reading~
    Generally used for daily readings
I use it for straight to the point answers or when I'm lazy

    Optional but Cool~
Something I saw and do is an what I call "The underneath it call card"
This is the card at the very bottom of the deck. This card represents what is influencing the other cards.
So the story the cards create is caused by the bottom card. Make sense?

(Example let's say Leona does a reading about Stella and the bottom card is the Tower Reversed. Reversed Tower can be interpreted as stuck in unalterable circumstances. This means that who Stella was, is, will be, and the outcome of what will happen cannot be changed)

Now you know vaguely what is what, how does this affect your writing?

Beyond influencing your character's power or having Leona give you a neat reading to add depth and foreshadowing to your threads, you can do tarot for writing. Tarot for writing? Yes, tarot for writing.

My deck isn't big on it but my friends deck love fictional characters (Yes, tarot decks have personalities and preferences).

So when you're unsure of where to go in your writing, you can do a reading for your character. The following a reading my friend did for Stella:

This is the Celtic Cross (see above) but keep in mind my friend interprets a little differently.
So for this spread it can be interpreted this way:

    1- Stella is the sun.
    ~ pure and simple joy
~ Stella is innocent and happy

    2- Death covers Stella.
~ transformation, extreme change, crossing into a new phase of life
~ Stella is about to experience change in the near future

3- The Nine of Swords is Stella's destiny.
~ inner fear, anxiety, agony of mind, doubt
~ What Stella fears or is agonizing over will probably come to pass.

4- Stella's distant past was the World
    ~completion, honor, fulfillment
~ Stella's past was fulfilling, probably paradise. In the literal sense her past was her world.

5- Recent past events relevant to Stella's current situation is the Chariot.
    ~overcoming obstacles
~ Stella's recently and currently is overcoming the challenges of being stuck on Althanas

6- The Seven of Swords is Stella's influence in the very near future
    ~ deceit, betrayal, mistrust
~ Stella's will either mistrust or feel betrayed by someone.

7- Stella's attitude and perspective is the Hermit.
~ a time for self-reflection and soul searching, solitude, gaining perspective toward the outside world
~ Stella is still trying to understand what is/has occurred to her and her situation

8- The Five of Pentacles are Stella's environmental influences.
~ despair, loss, hardship, abandonment, rediscovering hope
~ Stella's feels abandoned by her parent star and other Psaróni but with the Hierarchy perhaps she'll find new hope (ironic cause she is the star huh?)

9- Stella's emotions, fears, hopes, and desires are the Hanged Man Reversed.
~narrow viewpoint, preoccupied with one's self
~ Stella's emotions, fears, hopes, and desires are self centered and maybe preventing her from seeing what is going on around her.

10- Stella's outcome is the Devil.
~ caught up in temptation, obsessions and addictions
~ While this looks bad perhaps what she is obsessing over and seeking out of the situation she may have had the power to overcome all along.

But REMEMBER, this is a story. So let's weave it into one.

Up until being grounded, Stella has been living a fulling life. Now grounded and part of the hierarchy, Stella is happy to be part of the hierarchy and has been working hard to understand common. What is holding their back though is her obsession with trying to revert to their former self. They're about to undergo change, mostly likely in response to her desire. However their approach to the situation will be blinded by her desires. Stella probably feels abandoned by their friends for not expressing the same desire and this friction may cause them to seek out the solution on her own. The star's obsession will probably lead to their downfall or mistrust of the other Tarot toward Stella. While the future and outcome of the situation is bleak, Stella will need to reach out to her friends in the hierarchy to renew her hope and may find, like Dorothy, she has the power to return home all along.

Hope ya'll enjoyed that. If you want more on Tarot just ask and I'll be happy to post.

(Bonus points for knowing what the question was about. It's pretty obvious but I'm actually using this read for a thread which I will link too once it is created.)
