Like a burn to the flesh from a lick of a candle, the sharp pain resonated through the skin into the deeper tissue, the feeling intensified the longer the heat remained on the skin. That unyielding pain was what Nara felt as she stumbled blindly, screaming like a banshee as what ever it was hissed and burned, eating away at her precious eyes. Shaking hands raised, reaching out desperately in search for some sort of help "GET IT OFF!!" she wailed, tripping and falling into the dirt. Crawling manically she finally caught hold of the leg of someone, digging her nails in to stop them from getting away as she pulled herself back up onto her feet "HELP ME!" Her head turned wildly, almost as if she was looking around at the growing crowd around her, although she couldn't really see anything. Everything was red, no details just a merging of shadows under a bloody film that quickly began to fade into black. Gripping her own head, she fell back down to the ground and began to writhe, shaking her head and screaming again with the pain. The pale skin around her eyes was blistered and weeping, blood sliding down her cheek and pooling around her now clouded and scarring orbs. Sobbing with the trauma of it all, her body shook uncontrollably before she lost consciousness.

Flash forward a year and honestly she was lucky to be alive, that day was a dark one for her, something that had made her cry and thrash in her sleep long after it had happened. She was glad that she was blinded because the idea of seeing what she now looked like made her sick. The feel of her scarred and pink skin caused a lump in her throat that made her gag softly. Who had done this to her remained a mystery as no enemies came to mind, she had been well liked by people or so she thought. Perhaps someone from a long time ago that she had wounded in her wild youth, maybe it was a thoughtless crime and she had just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever the case it had happened and her life was different now.

It had taken time to adapt and granted she was still getting used to living without her sight, she still tripped over things and knocked stuff with her hands. Burning herself when she tried to cook and occasionally falling down the stairs but it was all a learning curve. Nara had somewhat mastered her home, she could move around and knew the general locations of most items. Outside of her small domain however was a different story, the world was out of her control and changed so quickly and so often that she rarely visited it. It was a necessary evil for her however, she needed to stock her cupboards and purchase new clothes as well as sell her wares.

Shuffling slowly along with her walking stick, the once vigilant Nara relied heavily on her sense of hearing to make her way through the bustling market as well as her now very keen sense of smell. She found herself bumping into a few people on her way but most were considerate enough to part for her, seeing the cloth that she used to hide her disfigured eyes as well as her cane and putting two and two together.

The sun was steadily rising, touching off from the horizon and into the sky. Of course Nara couldn't see it but she could feel it's subtle warmth on her skin and hear from passing conversations that today was going to be a lovely day. There was a cold pang in her stomach and tightness in her throat as she thought about it, knowing she'd never see a sunrise again. The cold was followed swiftly by a rush of fire that flushed her features and made her shoulders hunch, if she ever found who had done this to her. With a shake of the head, she dismissed the feeling. No good would come of dwelling over the past.
