    Rainleneth "Rain" Menedhil

    Name: Rainleneth Menedhil
    Nickname: Rain
    Age: 27
    Race: Wood elf
    Sex: Female
    Height: 5'11"
    Weight: 140 lbs
    Occupation: Mage

Personality: Rain is cursed with a wanderlest that never lets her rest. Strange premonitions that manifest themselves as both horrific nightmares and moments of catatonia leave her a haunted creature. She fears sleeping almost as much as she fears returning home to the forests of her brethren and bringing whatever horrors she sees back upon those she loves. Despite the nightmares and visions, however, the beauty and wonder of seeing the world is almost enough to make it worth it, and she can forget her troubles so long as she is learning and doesn't think too hard about the next time she has to sleep.

History: Born in the forests that border the Mountains of Dusk, Rainleneth was raised in the clan of the Wood Elves who lived there. Trained from birth in how to be silent and hide among the forest's many trees and plants, she learned to walk only just before she learned to climb trees.

Not having the strength for a bow or a long blade, Rainleneth was given a dagger to train with, and she gained skill as she was taught to stalk, hunt, kill, skin, and prepare her prey for meals. All members of the clan are expected to care for the clan. No one is exempt, and so Rainleneth learned to weild her dagger to kill and to protect. As she and her skill grew, she was given a second dagger and taught to wield one in both hands at once. This became as easy to her as breathing.

By the time she turned fifteen, she and her kin were running through the forest during games of Hide and Catch that lasted for days, catching and eating their own food so they wouldn't be caught. Rainleneth was not the best, but she was among the top ten in her skill. Considering their clan numbered in the thousands, this truly was rather impressive.

When she turned sixteen, her Coming of Age was celebrated with her receiving her first mark, a tattoo bearing the leaf of the tree under which she was born. The vine and leaves of the Weeping Willow were done across her forehead like a crown in green and gold, and Rainleneth wore them proudly.

Seventeen was the year that all of her kin chose their apprenticeship, so Rainleneth shadowed the Masters, watching the many apprentices perform their skills. When she finally turned seventeen, she knew it was magic that called to her, and so she chose that as her path to follow, and became an Apprentice to Master Haerondith, the clan's strongest mage who did not act as an Elder. It was her new master who spent a week painstakingly tattooing the large, graceful wing of the white owl across the right side of her back - a symbol of secret magics and wisdom that she would bear for the rest of her life.

For three years, Rainleneth trained under Master Haerondith. She learned to recognize the scent of magic that danced in the air, the power and life force of the universe, and she learned to tap into that magic. It was the trees first who whispered to her and she learned to help them grow by breathing magic onto them. She struggled to learn to summon fire, a fierce power that could destroy much of what she considered home, hoping that she could use it to protect those she loved.

She was twenty when the first vision hit.

She had been sparring with one of her kin, a talented dual-wielder of daggers like herself, when the vision slammed into her brain and she dropped her guard. Her sparring partner barely managed to keep from accidentally killing her, and even so left a horrible scar across her chest. The memory of receiving that scar, or the terrible wound that left it, never returned to Rainleneth, so consumed was she in the memory of fire sweeping across her forest and destroying it all.

After she healed, she returned to her training, pushing the vision from her mind as best she could, putting it down to illness, until it happened again. And again. And again.

Not just trances but also dreams - terrible nightmares that she woke from screaming in the night - of the forest turning to ash, her clan screaming in agony as they were consumed by fire.

When she was twenty-two, she summoned the first spark of fire to her hand, and the dreams of her home burning to the ground stopped.

They were replaced by a land she did not know, a town of humans somewhere warm and bright, washed away by the merciless water of a river that would not be denied. And then a little girl, five years old, with a soft face and big eyes being killed by a pack of wolves with thin stomachs and furious eyes. Death haunted her days at random, fierce visions of murder and mayhem and pain, but her nights were still worse.

She began to fear the nights.

She avoided sleeping, spending her time learning as much as she could about magic, obsessed with acquiring knowledge as she tried to work herself to exhaustion to keep from dreaming, but exhaustion only locked her in sleep and kept her from waking, even as she screamed and screamed.

She sought an escape and turned her studies to shapeshifting, hoping to fly and so beat the visions away with wings that could carry her far away. But flight is completely unknown to her kind, and so she focused on creatures able to run and jump and climb, as she could, and she sought a form that she could take.

When the visions became so painful that it seemed like the only recourse was to follow them and try to prevent whatever she was seeing, she made plans to leave. It was her parents and her siblings, dearest to her heart, that tattooed the fox's pawprint on her chest, just over her heart and intersecting the terrible scar she bore from her first vision - a call to the fox to protect her, to give her the cunning to find her way out of danger, through trouble, and eventually back home.

It shouldn't have surprised her that when she finally did manage to shapeshift, it was into a golden fox.

Her Master warned her of remaining too long in the fox's form, lest she fall to its instincts and be unable to remember that is first an elf. With her clan's hope for her returning and all the knowledge her Master could give her, Rainleneth turned and left her forest behind, traveling southwest, through the Niadath Pass, in search of where her visions were leading her, in hopes of stopping the pain - both hers and all those she was seeing.

Appearance: Tall and thin, with light green eyes, Rain has waist-length blonde hair that falls in a wild wave down her back. It often has leaves or tree branches stuck in it if she has been crawling through a shrub. Her skin has the ethereal shine of the long-lived elves, though it is not uncommon for that to be dulled somewhat by dirt. She has a long, terrible-looking scar from her left collarbone down to her lower right ribs from an attack that her sparring partner couldn't stop in time when she fell into a vision and was unable to defend herself.

Rain wears breeches and a pair of cavalier boots, both in shades of brown. Her tunic is the dark green of pine needles, but over that she wears a long, heavy hooded cloak the red shade of leaves in Autumn. She dresses completely in colors that are at home in the forest and she can blend in there well, as all wood elves can.

Rainleneth's clan believes personal choices in clothing, accessories, and body art are an important part of discovering who you are as you grow. They also give each elf different piercings, tattoos, or jewelry as they reach particular thresholds in their lives. At her Coming of Age ceremony, one of the Elders of their Clan tattooed the vine and leaf design of a weeping willow across the top of her forehead in green and gold, like a crown. Her left ears was pierced near the tip and she wears a ring there the emerald color of her vine tattoo. When she chose her path as a student of magic, the wing of an owl was tattooed down the entire right side of her back in white.

When she decided that she wished to leave the forests of her home, the pawprint of a fox was tattooed over her heart, as a means of giving her the cunning to find her away around obstacles, and eventually back home to her family.

    Skills:

Futuresight: Rainleneth would argue that this is less a skill than a curse. When she sleeps at night, she dreams of future happenings, and during the day, she can fall into trances easily and completely at random, regardless of what she is presently doing. Sometimes she will have a warning, like a feeling of impending doom before an "attack," so she is able to get somewhere safe, but sometimes the visions come on with no warning at all. She has no control over what she sees and is forced only to suffer at their whim. There is no limit on how many she will have during a day, much less a roleplay, and sometimes she has then when she touches people or things. It is erratic.

Fitness: Being raised in the clan meant being able to pull her own weight. Although she was not a hunting apprentice, she was still required to care for the clan as much as the rest of her brethren. Rain is very physically fit, accustomed to climbing trees daily and tracking prey for hours, sitting still in wait for longer, or sneaking about the undergrowth making as little noise as possible. Her most powerful asset is her dexterity and her ability to climb. She lacks the upper body strength some of her brethren had, both because she is a female and because she did not wield a bow.

Sneaking: Being born in the forest means that Rainleneth knows well how to blend in, and her cloak and forest-colored clothing helps her in that regard. It is a keen-eyed hunter who can spot her when she is intentionally hiding herself, and a better one still who can track her progress. Her ability to hide in towns is sub-par unless she can hide herself in shadowed corners or rafters.

Dagger-Wielding: Like her brethren, Rain was trained from youth to hunt, defend, and care for the clan. Not having the strength for a bow or sword, she was taught to use a dagger from a young age and, later, graduated to using two. She is very skilled in their use by this point and can fight well against another opponent wielding daggers or against one using a sword, although she has no defense against a keen-eyed archer.

Cooking: Having been traveling on her own for some time and, prior to that, taking care of the clan, Rain knows how to skin, prepare, and cook the beasts she catches, or prepare what roots and berries she digs up. She knows the difference between the poisonous and the safe plants of her homeland, but not those that are foreign to her eyes.

Backstab: Using her skill weilding daggers as well as her talent at sneaking, Rainleneth can come up behind an unsuspecting opponent and stab them in the back, sometimes killing them with a single blow. She is also tall enough, in most cases, to slit an opponent's throat.

This can be thwarted by an opponent with keen eyes or ears, her shadow leaning in the wrong direction, or a faltering on her part for whatever reason. She is only able to do this five times in a single roleplay and never more than once in a single post.

She does not yet have the skill to find the chinks in good, strong armor.

    Abilities:

Magic: When it came time for her to choose an apprenticeship, Rain chose Magic as her path to follow. She was trained by the Masters in her clan to harness the elusive power of the Universe's life force for ten years of firm discipline and hard work. She is a Journeyman Class in her apprenticeship and hopes to gain her Mastery through knowledge she attains in her travels.
    • Shapeshift - Fox: In the last two years of her training under the Master of her clan, Rain focused her studies on shapeshifting. It is much harder than it looks to change your body into that of an entirely different creature, but she has managed in some regard. Although it takes her five minutes of straight concentration, Rainleneth can transform her body into that of a fox, although she cannot shift the colors properly, and so the fox is the same golden color of her long hair.

She can maintain the shift for a few hours, but after that, it becomes difficult to keep control over the beast's mind and instinct will take over, destroying her higher thought patterns. Someone that knows her well can shake her out of the shift so long as they are able to get through to her, but the longer she stays in the fox's form, the harder it is to awaken from it. Her Master has warned her that if she keeps the form more than twenty-four hours at her present skill, it is unlikely she will be able to return to her own mind, never mind her own form.

It take her at least ten minutes of careful concentration to shift back into her normal form, and this is if she isn't fighting the instincts of the fox. It will take longer and be more difficult the longer she has sustained the form.

If she breaks a bone in one form or the other, the broken bone (or other wound) will transfer over. Due to the nature of shifting bones during a transformation, this can be dangerous bordering on deadly, particularly if one of the broken bones is a rib bone.

She can only shapeshift once per day and can only do it three times within an entire roleplay.
    • Breath of Life: One of the easiest forms of magic for a Wood Elf is the kind that pulls from the nature of the Earth. Breath of Growth is a spell to help plants grow, revitalize them if they are weary/wilted, or summon strength for growing into soil. It can also be used on humans or other species to speed healing.

It can close up small scratches or very minor wounds, ease a rash, or dull pain. It cannot fix a broken bone or a deep or mortal wound. It can dull the noticeable effects of poison, such as pain or fever, but will not actually solve the problem, and so can be used to ease someone's passing, or make them believe they are well when they are very much not.

This can only be used once per post. It can be used ten times within a roleplay on plants, but only three times on humans or other sapient creatures. It cannot be used to heal herself or the burns she might cause with her fire-taming.
    • Fire-Taming: Because fire is such an opposite to forests and such a danger, it took Rainleneth five years before she was able to even summon a spark, but the ability to call forth fire was a power she focused on with a fervor bordering on obsession. She is now able to surround both of her hands in fire that does not burn her. She cannot raise the heat of the flames high enough that they change from their red-orange color yet, but she is able to throw a fireball for twenty feet with strong accuracy. Once the fire leaves her hands, it has a mind of its own and will act as any fire will, completely outside of her control.

Once it has left her hands, the fire can also burn her. Only when she is holding it after having summoned it can she keep it from burning herself and others.

If Rain summons too much fire at a time, more than what she can hold in her fists, she can lose control of it completely and it will become a monstrous entity capable of destroying her as well as anyone else.

She can summon fire to her fingertips as often as she needs to, but she can only manifest fireballs she is capable of throwing twice in a single roleplay. If she loses control of the fire because she has summoned too much, she will not be able to summon anymore fire for the rest of the roleplay.
    • Light Ball: Rain summons an orb of light the size of her fist that floats above her right shoulder. She can summon a very dim light, one that is average in brightness, or a blinding light, but she cannot change the strength of the light once summoned. The spell lasts for two post rotations unless extinguished and she can only summon it five times within a roleplay. Sadly, a glowing orb of light right above her shoulder can easily can give away her position, so it's not always smart to use it. She cannot direction where it goes at present.
    • Smoke-Dance: Rain is able to use a minor control over the magic in the air to make pictures out of smoke. She cannot summon smoke itself, though so long as some is present or forms from her fire, she can alter it. The smoke forms can be very small, playing out like scenes on a puppet show, or larger. She can, for a few seconds (not exceeding a full minute), create a smoke-illusion of a full-sized form, either of herself or another person or a beast, making it appear as though something/someone is standing there within the smoke. This can work as a nice distraction, but it never lasts very long and a soft breeze can destroy it easily. Her smaller puppet-show smoke forms can be used without limitation, though to create a larger-sized smoke form requires focus and an actual creature to base it off. She cannot do this more than twice in a single roleplay.
    • Shield: A very, very low-powered shield, summoning this does little more than cause the air to look as though it is rippling where the shield has formed. Rain was in the process of learning this when she decided to leave her home and has very little skill in it. The most she is capable of using it for is to block the rain for a short time. It isn't even strong enough to stop a solid punch and is actually very draining to use. She continues to practice with it nonetheless. She is limited to the creation of her sub-par shield to just once within a roleplay.

Dexterity: Rain's dexterity is better than most other species, perhaps excepting those Fur-Kin who take after certain creatures. She is lithe and quick in her movements, well able to dodge some attacks and fire her bow quickly. Her dexterity is most notable in her exemplary climbing ability, which she uses to scale trees and homes, often hiding amidst the rafters in public areas. It also helps her to move silently, avoiding the eyes and ears of those who lack the keen eyes of a hunter.

Hello again! As with your other profile, I'm going to start by pointing out that your verbal description doesn't quite match up with your height and weight. At 5'7" and 187 lbs I wouldn't consider Rain tall or thin... more on the short side of middling height, and thick. This is totally up to you, but it may be confusing to other RPers. I'd suggest increasing the height a bit and possibly also dropping the weight a bit to achieve tall and thin.

If any part of the skill "Fitness" makes her better than an average human (most notably, dexterity) then it needs to be listed under Abilities.

Backstab can be listed under Skills rather than Abilities.

Lastly, I'm assuming that the skill "Magic" only applies to the specific uses of magic listed under abilities. If I'm wrong about that, any other magical abilities will need to be notated.

After you've taken care of these changes, we'll move forward. Thanks for your co-operation!

Because of how weak most of your abilities are, I'm going to approve you with more than we typically allow at level 1. Just be aware, you may not be able to add as many new abilities at your next level up if the existing ones increase in power.

    Approved!
