Dragon Amber Hunt

Greetings fellow hunters of the valuable stuff!

I'm looking for two or three people to join me on a hunt for this mysterious substance called Dragon Amber. I intend to write a quest where Remedy and a few others go out to track down an abandoned dragon lair in the hopes of finding some amber. Do they find it? Do they find a dragon?

The story will start at the foothills of the Twilight Mountains in Alerar, then we make our way (by foot) up into an old mountain pass. There'll be little bothering us on the way, but things will get hectic once we find the lair. I'd say I'd like to get around 30 posts, and then pool our money together to get some good items out of it.

I'd like to end up with a few things like this:

Death Spitter -
This is a wrist mounted device shaped like a roaring dragon mouth. Inside are four pieces of dark green, death affinity, dragon amber. The spitter can send out a blast of a dozen needles in a cone-shaped spread. The needles may appear like poison, but they actually use death magic to drain the life from the target. A centimetre around any needle that hits flesh rots away and leaves a painful hole. The spitter can fire four blasts of needles each hour. While the needles can pierce fabric, they can’t pierce any metal.

We'll have to pick the same type of dragon amber we'll like to get. That'll determine the effects of the items we want. If we go with fire, then everything will be fire based. If we want a Death Spitter each, then it'll be death affinity.

If you have no idea what you want, but you want some amber, then we can get something like this:

Dragon Amber -
This is a chunk of death affinity dragon amber. It can be used to make a weapon or item with a 'death' magical enchantment. This item reduces the cost of the created item by 200 gold and is then destroyed.


Here is some info on dragon amber:

Dragon amber is named for its visual similarity with amber. Nearly all dragon amber is translucent. The amber forms when stones have undergone a high amount of exposure to dragon flames. This typically occurs within a dragon’s den where the dragon rests their head when sleeping and their breath falls upon the rocks around them. The small amount of flames over the years imbues the rocks with magic. This rarely occurs outside a dragon's den, but dragon amber has been found at locations of great dragon battles where rocks have been stuck over and over by the full force of dragon breath attacks. Dragon amber is often used as a magical conduit, such as wands or talismans. Potent forms are able to generate their own magical properties.

The type of dragon flame the stones were exposed to determine their affinity and colour. Green may denote earth or poison for example. In some rare cases the stones were exposed to multiple types of dragon magic. This results in multi-coloured amber. These are referred to as rainbow dragon amber. Because dragon amber will exhibit magic relating to the type of dragon flame they were exposed to, rainbow dragon amber can produce multiple types of magic and is especially valuable. Typically dragon amber will exhibit offensive magics, such as projectile attacks like fireballs and blasts of frost. Elemental attacks can also take the form of claws and wings. There are some effects which will never be achieved by dragon amber, such as teleportation, transmutation, mind control, curses and hexes, and summoning. Rare effects include illusion, healing and body modification.

The value of dragon amber varies greatly, potent amber can be broken down into many small portions for magic jewellery such as rings and amulets. A potent dragon amber ring may be able to summon a blast of fire or a few fireballs. They can also be grafted to weapons to add elemental effects. Less potent forms need to form large sections of of the weapon to have any effect. For that reason a pebble of highly potent Rainbow Dragon Amber may sell for hundreds of times the amount a large chunk of less potent, single affinity amber.

The method for valuing dragon amber is three fold. First, the clarity of the amber. The clearer the stone, the more magic it has been exposed to. Second is the colour. A single colour is most common an denotes a single affinity. Very, very more than two colours stones have been found and these are worth far more than single affinity ones. The final check is the size. This is the most easiest to judge, but can be the least important.

I don't intend to write that much for my other posts, it seemed that I had heaps of content to get through.

A few things that might help in interacting with Remedy (please feel free to bunny, I'll correct you on language if needed). She is short, much shorter than a normal person. She carries herself with confidence despite having to look up at people. Her clothes have a bit of steam punk tech on them, especially her belt. The canisters are on the bench with the rest of her stuff.

She will be professionally polite to anyone she talks with and always talks with a controlled introspection. For example, like she is making sure her words can't be misconstrued.

Green Death Amber

At least, I was thinking that type. It would be things like the Death Spitter, or similar death/necrotic damage. If you want a weapon, like a sword or dagger, it'll cost a lot more. Then it'd be better to request the amber as a raw piece and use it later in something.
