Heroes got too complicated. The producers and writers just tried SO HARD and it shows.

    UGLY BETTY.
And fuck the haters, The Hills is a classic pop culture masterpiece.
And it's so obvious it's staged - still wonderfully dramatic.

Green Porno on the Sundance Channel has very short episodes and it's hilarious. Isabella Rossellini is adorable.

I don't watch anything up to date, really, because our television doesn't receive any channels. So really, I never get to watch tv. I had the first four season of Futurama on DVD, and some Good Eats episodes. The only show I'm really crazy about is Battlestar Galactica. The last half of the last season hits DVD this week so that means I can put it on my Netflix and get to see the end of the series. It's bittersweet. I don't want it to end because it's such a great series, but I would be devastated if they tried to keep it running and it degraded into something awful. There are a couple of epis that Zook and I are convinced were written by the interns or something because they're just off but there's only been two of those so far in four seasons, so I just pretend they were a dream. :P

The first season of Dead Like Me was brilliant, but the second one sucked.

What, why no mention of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (CSI:Miami and CSI: New York as well), House, M.D., Early Edition and NUMB3RS?

Oh, wait. NUMB3RS was mentioned. Sorry.

Then again, I don't have a lot of options when it comes to English TV series. The selection over here is sorely limited and I don't like watching stuff from DVD. Not a whole lot, anyways, since I usually am working on the computer at the same time.

I've been hooked on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation ever since it began airing in America (what was that, like, 8 years ago? Wow.) and I've been trying to catch up on it as much as I could. Grissom was awesome. (Yes, digging for bugs in meaty wounds is cool.)

If anything, though, I have the complete 1998 version of Neon Genesis Evangelion. I've been hunting for that Anime DVD set for a while and got it for a great price. But with the new remake movies already out (waiting for the 3rd movie) I don't know how bad my wallet will be damaged... TwT

EDIT: I didn't really get into either Supernatural, Heroes or Lost. I've watched a few episodes from each of them, but wasn't impressed. Lost piqued my interest, but not that much. Probably because I wasn't going to follow it anyways.

I love Lost, got it shoved at me just as season three was coming out of those fateful "first six episodes then mad-long hiatus" bit; loved the first two seasons, watched the first six of three and went "Uhoh." But I stuck with it, and I think my patience has thus far been rewarded. I am with Sighter though - if they mess up season six I will cry.

I like Supernatural, though it is steadily falling in my list of priorities. Right now it's below Chuck and Lost. I still have yet to watch the last....eight? I think? Episodes of season 4. Have to watch 'em before season five starts.

Heroes started out so good, and then it went so very bad. Between the almost-constant attempts at retrofitting Sylar's character and the fact that Mohinder spent all of the last two seasons or so with the Idiot Ball practically gorilla-glued to his fingers kinda made me lose interest. Milo Ventimiglia is still, however, all kinds of pretty. Yes, I am shallow, what of it?

My problem with TV is that the shows I like the best are the ones that get canceled PDQ. Jericho, which I recently discovered and now adore like mad, is gone, Journeyman (which I watched faithfully since the beginning) only reached 13episodes, Firefly, of course...Miracles...the list goes on and on.

...Anyone got a show that they want canceled? ;D

If the love that I describe could be anything but words,
Then I would wipe my eyes, I'd dry this ink,
I'd trade my pen in for a pair of wings and I would fly...
If only I could make it work in life.

I cast a Phoenix Down and revive this thread!!!

Recently, I finished watching Battlestar Galactica and the fourth season of Heroes (I guess that's volume five), and frankly I don't know which disappointed me more. I guess I'll start with BSG. Beware, there will most likely be SPOILERS ahead.

Now, I watched BSG before, when they were still airing it on the local TV networks. And it blew my fucking mind. It was science fiction, but it wasn't burdened by special effects and constant action. In fact, it focused more on the development of characters then the actual battle with the Cylons. Shame they fucked it up after season two or so. I read somewhere that the writers for BSG didn't plan too much ahead, sort of wrote ten episodes at a time and played it by ear, and I think it shows later on. The plot gets drawn out, the characters grow boring and the major twist about the identity of the "Final Five" ends up being pretty fucking bland. I feel that they could've condensed the entire show in two seasons and it would've turned out better. Also, Starbuck is probably the most annoying character in any show I ever watched. EVER. SPOILER I was so bloody happy when her Viper blew up and she was "dead". And then they bring her back a couple of episodes later and I'm not happy anymore./SPOILER

Still, even with all that, I'm still very glad to have watched and finished it. It's still a good show and you can certainly do worse in the world filled with ten different types of CIS shows.

Now, Heroes. Ah, yes, Heroes. Heroes were awesome. I'm not talking just about the first season. I didn't even mind the second and the third. In fact, I liked those very much as well. And then I watched the fourth one and I was like: "Wtf, didn't we do all of this before?". Once again, they're all doing a lot of soul searching, and fighting with the feeling of not belonging and whatnot and it's like watching season one all over again, only this time around you know where it's all heading. And I felt that the fourth season is a redundant episode in the entire story, sort of a filler that would make the show run a bit longer before the whole thing escalates and we get the Armageddon we've been hoping for since like season one. SPOILER Given the fact how season four ended, with Claire showing the world her ability, I figure it is very likely that we'll get that very thing in season five. Which only further makes the fourth season utterly pointless. Well, there's the whole Sylar turning away from the dark side, but that could've easily been integrated in previous seasons instead of making him just run around and eat brains./SPOILER

Still, I believe in Heroes. I believe that the show will redeem itself in the fifth season. Now, damnit, I want some epic fucking fights, I want some destruction, some special effects flying all over the place. I don't want to watch Peter fucking Petrelli ride the emergency van and save random people and Claire passing exams on college and Hiro saving bloody kittens. I want them to be Heroes again.

Anybody else have an opinion on these shows? How about some others? I heard the The Fringe is quite good, so I downloaded the first season to check it out. Didn't get a chance to do that just yet, though.

You're fucking old. My dad raves over Battlestar Galactica too. I still standby stargate.. that was until it got gay and tried to copy BSG with Stargate Universe.

    Fucking twabblers.

I take that back, Battlestar has one good thing about it, its the entertainment equivilent of melatonin.

Also, only people with bad taste in television have faith in Kring as a writer and a visionary. If you think BSG's writing was poorly planned, you're putting stock into a guy who writes by the episode and probably does it based off of the majority of the opinion over whatever Heroes forum he frequents. I heard writing for TV shows was soulless, deppreciating work, but he definitely finds a way to set a new low every season.

Now shut up and watch Fringe, you Croat.

Battlestar Galactica - Started out amazing and started to fall off near the end, but you have to take into account the tenancies and trends of viewers like yourselves. There seems to be something every viewer forgets to ask him/herself. "Am I really bored with this television show just because it's lost its flavor, or has my inner novelty just worn out?"

Most times it's just the latter, but viewers would only admit the former. However, here's some solid evidence about Battlestar falling off. Baltar completely lost his comedic value. You know what I'm talking about; that need to laugh at him during the first half of the series with a tinge of guild in your heart. Starbuck in fact did get annoying, but she was obnoxious to begin with and that was the beauty of her character and Katie Sackoff's acting. Not every character is supposed to be appealing. Apollo seemed to have lost his balls... they're in my left hand. The fact that an entire group of cylons sided with the humans is beyond believable. I can understand a Six or Athena, little anomalies here and there, but my God an entire faction?

Despite all this we have to respect Battlestar for what it did for the overall landscape of Sci-Fi and Fantasy. This series showed us that we can have good drama and good sci fi all in one production. There is no going back for me. I can't enjoy my old Star Wars or Star Trek dvd's. I can't watch any of the old fantasy shows; hell I didn't even give Legend of The Seeker two minutes before I changed the channel. I can't even watch the most recent silver screen incarnation of Lord of The Rings. I can respect all of the above for what they did to further the popularity of Science Fiction and Fantasy, but I can no longer enjoy them. Anything after Battlestar must be able to demonstrate a good level of drama and realism or it is not acceptable. Perhaps the people working on Stargate Universe understand that, Saxon. It's just a shame that they suck at it.

Heroes - doesn't need to come back. To bring Heroes back would be fucking stupid because Kring would NEED to make Sylar bad again, or create a Villain much more powerful than him, which would take another three ratings depraved seasons to defeat. NBC is desperate for ratings right now, and Heroes isn't helping. Why would the network bring the show back? It's obvious how the story would go after the 'specials' are made public because we've all seen it for decades... X-Men. A Brave New World is a sufficient ending. Let's leave it at that and allow a cast of EXTREMELY talented actors find some good jobs elsewhere before they dig a six foot hole for their careers.

How about I add a few titles to the equation. I say to hell with the major networks. Cable's the new way to go. I'm down with The Tudors, Weeds, Brotherhood, Rescue Me, Archer, Justified, Mad Men, Californication, and last but not least Doctor Who.

The American networks could learn a lot from BBC. Instead of attempting to create a series that goes on forever and ever, they work on a gem that they usually end on their own terms within two seasons. If a show lasts longer than that there's usually a significant cast change, and then it might as well be considered a spin off. There was this amazing show on BBC called Jekyll, and it only had one season, but it was fucking amazing.

Considering its been done before and better, I disagree. Battlestar has been around forever, even before whatever-his-name bought the rights to work on it. You say fantastic, I say old-story-is-still-old.

Also, grow some sack and say "Fuck." Frak? Really? Passed one over on the FCC there, big guy!

No, they just did multiple series covering a storyline that ran for well over ten years and had a huge following. They just fucked up and ran a really successful spinoff into the ground after a great ending for the original to trade for a really stupid spinoff whose only saving grace is a doctor named Rush. Stargate was fine as it was.

    Let me fix that list;

Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Dexter, Burn Notice, Rescue Me, Archer, Justified, Breaking Bad, Fringe, and.. sadly.. Supernatural.

    Its still my guilty pleasure.

EDIT: ..And the only reason why Doctor Who is not on that list is because the new Doctor looks like a dumbass. Though, to be honest, the only Doctor I liked from the get go was Eccleston, but they killed him off too fast.

.. And boy did David Tenant get his cock sucked with the amount of fan service he was able to give before his Doctor died. Jesus.

Too bad American and British television are completely different mediums. Seriously. The end of a 'season' means entirely different things to both cultures. One means a break and the other literally means the end of something. The british have a knack for making absolute use of their characters and then offing them, American television tries to expand by having audiences watch a character live their lives for years, and whatever happens in between is cool with us.
