...No one said the death would be soon...

It was still early in the life of the Universe, a life he had basically shared since its inception. Earlier than the first splitting of a fertilized egg into two copies in relative terms to almost any mortal but already death was approaching. Unlike the lives of men which got more interesting and filled with potential towards their middle, his life was one which was cold and drab. The world was slow and uninteresting, symmetries were broken, usable energy extraordinarily scarce and, like always, it had forgotten and proclaimed itself at a peak. Just as few recognized the slow metabolisms of the clay-beings, the ribosomal microbes which lived among them, and even the rare silicates in the mantle of their world as truly living compared to the beginning the pace was torturous. In truth he could only handle it because he had cooled down to a point where slow was normal.

Life had always been blessed with the idea of their own immortality until the Universe mercilessly extinguished them. He had theorized over what sorts of beings would live in the next phase of this lifecycle once all the stars became exhausted, once Black Holes were all that was. And after? After would be the longest time yet, an interminable wait until the heat death. Even he would not escape it unless he found an escape route or some more exotic proposal, this was why he was there, I’m already here, partly, or perhaps it’s a closely related reality, one which will fizzle out of existence. He did have the ability to talk to himself time notwithstanding, a skill which was close to violating the information transfer laws but it did lead to interesting events when he realized a part of him spoke from an unstable waveform which collapsed to naught almost as if the story the world was writing was discontinued. Almost.

Althanas had a reservoir which seemed, at least, to exist beyond the normal laws and rules which so strictly dominated everything else. It was unlike many others due to its ubiquity, it seemed practically every being could touch it in some form and its power was hopefully unlimited (or approaching limitless which worked just as well in most models). He needed to find out more, to learn if it could be harnessed for the noblest of purposes, to save intelligence from certain death. It would be difficult to make them see the necessity of this, in blind arrogance they, like those before them, would pretend to see the importance of the plight only to ignore it until it was too little. It was too late to use the Universe itself, like others Calael had deluded himself until the glow of the birth faded into uselessness. Such was life, such was mind. But such was life, also, that it could not go down without a struggle.

A figure materialized in what ought be the best of places to discover truths. A wise figure once again, much like the other him in the tavern. Clad in a delicate green reminiscent of forests, silver-white hair and beard, eyes a pale amber; this was a very well built façade. The neural networks which would dictate his personality went more smoothly this time, no glaring errors, at least. Ah, so this is the eldest of libraries in Raiaera! It was time to learn, the end was coming. It was some time in the future and he’d have a long time to contemplate it but even a time that approaches the incomprehensible pales before infinity.

    Physics is FUN!

"In answer to the question of why it happened, I offer the modest proposal that our Universe is simply one of those things which happen from time to time."
