So... I'm sitting at work and I had a sudden memory pop into my head of my relatives over seas poking fun at how they remember English.

They do so by translating words phonetically over to what it would sound like in Chinese, so here is the only one I remember:

"San kuai rou gei ni ma chi."

I don't know how to put in the tonal marks so... sad face, BUT, it's sounds phonetically like, "Thank you very much."

... except when you translate the Chinese over, it means, "Three blocks of meat for your mother to eat."

Yeah...

SO, I was wondering if those who speak other languages has had experiences like this, or... is just my family this odd?

The only other languages I speak are not universally accepted by others...

In taking French, I don't think I link words with phrases, though that's certainly a good memory tool.

I hear the word phonetically, and then I try to spell it phonetically, which is just awesome.

On the upside, bother to try learning another language raises all sorts of interesting problems when you start making observations about English. Like how perfect and simple it is. *sweet, sweet bias*
