It's exactly what it says on the tin. I'll start:
I was attacked by vikings today.
I had to drive a station vehicle in the town's winter parade, and at the end of the line, I got swarmed by a dozen vikings wielding maces, broadswords, and axes.
However, thanks to some previously-acquired intel (from the sales manager who arranged the attack), I was armed with a sword of my own.
I was able to strike down two of the vikings before receiving the business end of a warhammer.

I went to Drug and Alcohol. I took a gross poop. I took my psych meds. I wondered how much money I could sell my tv for, and how much drugs I could get with that money. I put on socks for the first time in two weeks. I played some Borderlands 2. I thought about toast, but didn't make any. I jammed a toothpick under my thumbnail.
Today, I used a stapler to fix an aircraft LRU. The bit that prevent the wings from exploding.

Given the fact that I just watched "Flight" today, this is somewhat alarming.

Was shopping for purses, walking by the designer bags and was curious what the price was.
Calvin Cline Designer Purse "20% off" (or so they say) for the small price of $649.99 (with discount).
I was like, "No thanks."
I can't believe people pay that much for a purse. All you are paying for is the name, the material that it is made out of is not worth the extra $550+ you are spending for it in my opinion.

The power of a name :p Unfortunately Shakespeare underestimated the power of the human mind when he wrote: 'What's in a name? that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet'. Of course I suppose that might be one of the morals of R&J >.> The Simpsons put it elegantly:
Lisa: His name doesn't matter, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet
Bart: Not if you called him Stench Blossom
Homer: Or Crap Weed

I always wondered why we have useless letters that play no purpose in most of the english language.
I think they are throwbacks from olde style. Knit and knife probably have a similar origin, something that goes through something. Although with English often you get word deviations from other language to confuse things. I did a quick look, Cut and Knife have similar origins, although cut seems to normally mean a smaller version of knife, however, both words have since split and now you cut with a knife.
cut (v.)
late 13c., possibly Scandinavian, from North Germanic *kut- (cf. Swedish dialectal kuta "to cut," kuta "knife," Old Norse kuti "knife"), or from Old French couteau "knife." Replaced Old English ceorfan (see carve (v.)), sniþan, and scieran (see shear).
knife (n.)
late Old English cnif, probably from Old Norse knifr, from Proto-Germanic *knibaz (cf. Middle Low German knif, Middle Dutch cnijf, German kneif), of uncertain origin. To further confuse the etymology, there also are forms in -p-, e.g. Dutch knijp, German kneip. French canif "penknife" (mid-15c.) is borrowed from Middle English or Norse.

Yesterday I went to a backyard/redneck wedding and was on the volunteer cooking staff. I was told my main job would be cooking the pig roast, which I'd never done before. It went from that to fixing the entire seating area when a wind and rain storm blew in and destroyed everything while everyone else was at the ceremony. To prepping all the other food, including the venison roasts and seasoning them, to setting up the entire serving buffet for over 100 guests.
A couple people asked me when I'm doing my next wedding. I answered with 'I've never done this before in my life'. >.> I got a lot of compliments and some people asked the bride and groom where they hired me.
After the stress of the dinner was over, I partied and drank until 3am! Woot!! My feet are super sore from being on them for over 14 hours, but it was a blast!

I keep seeing commercials for Dave & Busters, but I've never been to one (cause the nearest one is at minimum a 3.5 hour flight away). The commercials always make me think "Adult version of Chuck E. Cheese"
I read a paper today ("Strigolactones interact with ethylene and auxin in regulating root-hair elongation in Arabidopsis") for my lit review. The authors looked at an AUXIN RESPONSE FACTOR (ARF) 7/19 double mutant in their experiments. I giggled every time they mentioned arf7arf19. All I could see was a wire-haired terrier in a lab coat and safety glasses.
It was almost as funny as the one about ARABIDOPSIS RESPONSE REGULATOR (ARR) genes, which sounded like it had been dictated by a pirate.

08-24-13, 02:01 PM
haha it's fine, I don't mind. At least you're not asking about igloos and polar bears for pets!
Barrow (which is the most northern town in the U.S., it literally sits on the coast where the Beaufort and Chukchi seas meet) gets a several weeks (around 80 days according to wikipedia) where while the sun gets quite low on the horizon and you get all the pretty sunset colors, the sun doesn't actually go below the horizon. Opposite of that, for a few weeks (read: about 65 days) in winter, the sun doesn't get above the horizon. Instead of daylight, they have twilight and on solstice, only about 3 hours of that twilight. (Again, according to wikipedia. I haven't ever been to Barrow myself. Too cold!) Fun fact: in the winter, instead of rainbows, Barrow gets icebows. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Barrow-icebow.jpg)
I live in southcentral Alaska, so I don't quite get 24 hours of daylight. But I may very well get close to 18-20 hours during July. Now that we're at the tailend of August, the sun starts setting at around 9pm or so. My winter days are pretty short. Since Anchorage sits at the base of the Chugach mountains, it can get to be like 11am before I see the sun get over the mountains from my house which is on the east side of town and closest to the mountains. The sky will be completely lit, the sun just hasn't quite gotten completely over the mountains yet. Makes watching sunrises a much nicer idea when sunrise is at 9am instead of 5am! With that though also comes early sunset. I totally understand that go to work in the dark, come home in the dark feeling. It's the norm for the typical 8-5 job. Sunset in December-January comes as early as 4 or 5 pm
Get a bike! I cannot begin to describe the feeling of riding down the highway. Just me and my bike and the road. It's very much something you have to experience for yourself. I ride a Honda Shadow 600. Below is a stock image of my BB (Black Beauty) but my bike is identical since she's still all stock colors and whatnot. Changing such things requires money that is currently being spent on my education...

That is one gorgeous motorcycle. If I ever do get one, I plan on a little cross country sight seeing ride and I will definitely make a stop in Alaska so you can I can cruise the highways together. ;)
That is kind of crazy though that during the winter you don't actually get to see the sun until like 11am. I mean, yeah, watching the sunrise late in the morning instead of having to get up early for it would be really nice, but that's so late! At least it's not actually dark until 11am though, it's just that the mountains are blocking you from actually seeing the sun. You must really be enjoying it now that it's out and about. Go for another ride or two for me! Since I have no motorcycle to do that right now. XD

And why would we do this and destroy so much revenue and commerce that is both national and global? There ought to be a law? It needs to be regulated? Please. SOPA is the internet boogey man. It does not make fiscal or reasonable sense to do it and just because some old greybeards have tried to push an unpopular bill through Congress before does not mean they're going to be successful a second time. Yea. I don't think so. I think our government is hard pressed to get rid of the drug offenders overpopulating their prisons along with other soft crimes before they start heavily policing Youtube accounts with life sentences. Well, I learned a scientastic lesson;
Inserting fries and salt up your nose, then scouring the nostrils with rough paper to clear them out will only have on outcome - a nosebleed!
Otto, you may have learned a lot about science during your time at uni, but I'm out there contributing to it cutter! ;)
One thing absolutely integral to good science is that results must be reproducible. You sure this wasn't just a fluke? Better repeat the experiment just to be certain, perhaps by isolating each treatment/combination of treatments. Let me know the results!
Also on a science-related note, my computer carked it last night - and with it, my uni notes. Fortunately, I was able to access them from a laptop on the same network, so all is not lost. Still... it was pretty damn scary for a while there.
And finally, I stabbed myself with my beard the other day. My thumb actually started bleeding a little. I guess that's cool?

EDIT: And as a sidenote, in my many years of boredom there are few things I haven't had up my nose. Coffee, sugar, Cajun spice mix, pepper, crushed up Polo mints, toothpaste, tea.. the stupidity goes on. So, my results have all been replicated many-a-time.

I noticed that, too! I'm afraid employers are going to look me up and decide I'm a loser because all I watch on youtube is screaming goats, Sailor Moon clips, and really awful 80s music videos.
Ahhh screaming goats. Sometimes I wonder if animals will one day learn to ask us to stop hurting them >.> Until then BACON PANCAKES! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yK6A79SU_gw)
Seriously, watch the video.
I was going to make another music video today, but AVS Video Editor is being all stupid with me and I'm not going to out up with that today, so... :P
Well. 50$ Three hours. And a very annoying drive later.
I have bought and am about to smoke my first cigar. CAO Gold, which is a very earthy tone, with an oaky hint behind it. I must say, exquisite. Now, all that lacks, is my lighter, and my ash tray.
I wish i was 21. I heard scotch goes really well with CAO.
Going to admit that cigars are really tasty, though I'm not much of a tobacco person. Also never go cheap on scotch :p

Last night I had a couple friends over for dinner. I cooked them bacon wrapped venison backstrap with a side of sauteed green and purple beans, salad and a fresh baguette. I think Krista had several food-gasms just eating that. Zuber devoured her plate before I was halfway through mine. Then I followed it all up with an Irish Cream creme brulee. I'm actually quite proud of myself. I cooked the meat perfectly so one was medium and the other medium rare.

Just got back from shopping at Meijer. While I was there, a group of like five bored high-school-aged girls were trolling around in/on one of those old people carts with a seat on it, saying hi to everybody and giggling, as bored high-school-aged humans are wont to do.
"Hi crying baby!"
"Hi grandpa on a scooter!"
"Hi lady in a dress with flowers on it!"
"Hi hippie girl with her boyfriend!"
"Hi Meijer dude!"
"Hi hot guy buying yogurt!"
I look down and see yogurt in my hand, and I am confused, and maybe a little panicked. Yes, that is some greek yogurt in my hand. I look behind me to see if Chris Hemsworth or Johnny Depp or that Bleeber fellow are in my Meijer buying yogurt, but no one is there. I am alone with my yogurt, feeling confused and frightened. Ten minutes later, in the checkout line, it occurs to me that perhaps they were speaking of me, since I was alone buying yogurt. I come to realize that beauty precludes brains. By the time I get to my car, I decide that I am okay with that.
I am now going to spend the rest of the night flexing in the mirror.

Today, while I was driving home from the gym, at night, my car suddenly decided to have a heart attack. I was on the on ramp for the highway and I lost all my lights, my dashboard displays, my signals, basically everything electrical died in my car. I didn't even have the radio. It was raining and my wipers were barely working, plus the car was accelerating like crap and trying to merge onto the highway with a speed limit of 90, when you're only doing 50 or 60 is very scary. It's not like I could put her in reserve and go back the way I came.
I got off the highway and somehow managed to drive the car home, without her dying. Put-Put is now parked in the driveway waiting to be fixed. My brother's friend, who used to be a mechanic, is about 99% sure it's my alternator and is amazed I got the damn thing home and wasn't stuck on the side of the road. Which would have sucked, since I left my cell phone at home.
It's probably going to cost me about 300 to fix her, which is about what I spent in bras this weekend. Awesome...
i survived another day of school.

So yesterday I shelled out $274 and some change for Midas to fix my car, told me it was my battery and not my alternator. Today, I'm driving home from work and my damn battery light keeps coming on and off, on and off. So, when I got to my dad's, he checked it with a multimetre and basically told me yeah, my alternator is fucked.
Thanks Midas, you're getting it big time tomorrow when I smash that new battery I didn't need into your fucking face!

Yeah, she just bought it in May. Lucky, he plowed in antlers first and hit the tire and his body hit the door. There are a couple scratches, and the panel is a little bent. Hopefully it won't cost me much to fix it. It's the first time I've ever hyperventilated.
The irony is I was on my way down to go deer hunting.
I have the worst luck. If it was my car, I would not give a rats ass. Had to be in my mom's.
The silver lining of this story is: Fastest hunting kill ever.
Filled the tag before even trying. XD
Insurance should cover that kind of damage I believe?

I was only going 40Km, not fast enough to kill him. And I don't know if the damage is worth getting insurance involved. That will be my mom's choice since it was her car.
I still hve to tell her. -_-

All the more reason killing Bambi's mom was one of the smartest moves ever by Disney.

I used an altimeter/barometer on a land navigation course in mountainous terrain once. The A/B was adversely affected by an incoming storm front, which I had to keep resetting every time I reached a Known Point. This also clued me in to the fact that something bad was about to happen. My "Mountain buddy" and I ran the entire course knowing there was a storm coming. We were the first team back and avoided being rained on by about five minutes.

I got a deer last night. My first buck. He's a big boy. ^_^
He has a very small rack on him, but I should get a rather large amount of meat. Sadly, I had to shoot him twice and the second time from less then five feet away. He was looking right at me with these large black eyes when I did it. I spined him the first time, so he was going to die, but slowly and painfully. I had to put him out of his misery.

Sweet! Nice take. All my buddies at work here are hunters. Half by bow, the other half by rifle.
Looks like some good eats.

I shot him with a bow, show him off and make them jealous, Lye!
I should get a good 60-70 pounds off him.

Last night I went to see Stephen Lynch live at the Edinburgh Playhouse.
The show started with the single hottest burlesque act I have ever witnessed, followed by two hours of uncontrollable hilarity.
Life is good.

Aurie found the show hot.
So they allow seven year old transgender rabbits do burlesque now? Gross.

My internet has been out for the last two days, and yesterday I was home sick. I cannot describe how bored I was, despite my literary prowess.
Less interesting, more WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!?! v.v
Home with a cold and hiccups.
Watched Strangeland and some anime.
Gone through a box of tissues already--for my nose. -ahem- I am a female, you pervs.
Going to play Ni No Kuni...

Chits can go through tissues that way too, so you've really just put the image in our heads. Before I read that line, I just thought "she has a cold, is using tissues - normal."
Now, though...

Yeah, you kind of screwed yourself there. :p I was not thinking perverted thoughts either, but now I totally am...
I butchered my deer today. He was in full rut when I shot him though, so he was kind of smelly. We took out the choice cuts (I already got the loins) and the backstraps, then ground the rest of him. I lost 20lbs, some of it just the crappy meat and a bunch of it because I had to shoot him twice.
Ah well, I'll be aiming for a Doe next!

I'm telling you - cook and eat the liver! It is delicious, and there is sod all wrong with eating it from wild game. I have two generations of game-keepers in my family, god knows how many poachers and my Dad used go shooting at a bunch of estates up in the highlands.
All of them cooked and ate the liver, not one ever had any complaints.

I actually talked to my dad about that today and he says it's becoming a more common practice to do that. They just don't recommend you eat it very often, but we gutted my deer on Tuesday, the heart and liver already went to the dogs.
I still have another tag to go, so when I get my second deer, I'll contemplate eating that liver. But I'm not going to lie, liver is something that I've never really wanted to eat. I took a medical course, I know what the liver does in the body and I don't like the idea of eating a giant filtration system.
By the way, where's my post!?

Double post!
Friday night I went out and had a girls night with a bunch of people. I got absolutely shit faced. I don't think I've ever been that drunk before. I had a fantastic time, talked with a lot of boys, danced with some and general merriness around until the morning, lol. I was pretty hungover for a couple hours, then Elaine and Krista and I ordered chinese food for breakfast and that made most of it about 80% better.
This happened not today, but yesterday. I was at the local park about a block down from my house, hanging with my friends. Some random crackhead-looking lady walked up to me and asked if I wanted to buy her knife(very nice, Ozark Trail- high quality knife) for 10 bucks, giving me some sob story about having to get enough gas to drive her kids home. Having only 6 in my pocket, I politely declined her offer. She came up to me and my friends again about 5 minutes later and told me she'd sell it for 6. I agreed. As I was walking home, I saw her hitting a pipe at the other end of the park..
TL;DR - I helped feed a crackhead's addiction and got a sweet knife in the process. Not sure whether to feel good or bad.

Feel good. She was going to feed her addiction regardless of whether you helped or not. At least you got a cool knife out of the deal.
Too bad she didn't realize she could get more crack -with- the knife.

And this is why crime is so high in America. Canadians would just buy the damn car. >.>
I was finally able to eat solid food after a three days of liquid and saltines! I also believe that I am increasingly leaning toward the vegetarian side of being an omnivore.
P.S.- Never - Let me restate - NEVER eat an undercooked sausage. Burn it to a cinder. Do not risk it. Your stomach will sound, act, and feel like a scene from Aliens.

I watched the Hunger Games today... ... Let's just say the only thing I liked about it was the main character herself. Other than that...
Go watch Frozen! The lyrical breaks get annoying but it's overall pretty funny. :D The second hunger games didn't impress me very much, but I did like the subtle political games that were being played out.

Nicely put Max. They transcribed the book excellently, and finished it scene for scene with twice the thrill.
I went to see Parkland with a colleague today. Gripping performances, excellent treatment of the material, but dodgy camera work.
I did however learn Colin Hanks is still hot. /winwin

So, I came home yesterday to find a strange car in the driveway, a red Toyota Camry, and got rather confused. My mom and brother both work afternoon shift, so this was a rather strange occurance. Confused, but thinking Todd took the day off work and that was one of his friend's cars, I parked in guest parking and went inside. Opening the front door, I yelled 'Hello' and was quite surprised when my mom popped out from the living room wearing a strange expression on her face. So, the following questions popped out of my mouth in rather rapid succession: "What's wrong? Why aren't you at work? Where's your car? Whose car is that?'
And my mom simply answered these questions by saying: "I got in an accident.'

As she was driving down the 403 highway, a truck in the left lane decided he wanted to come over into the right lane and didn't see her. He clipped her ass end, spun her around in front of him side ways and dragged her for over a hundred feet down the highway, most of the way she was only one two wheels. My brother was in the car with her at the time. I came very close to losing the two most important people to me in the world Monday.
Neither of them were very hurt, thank you Hyundai with your 5 star safety crash rating, and because of that we were able to joke around a little bit when I got them both to sit down and have some food, after Todd came home of course. He was still really shakey from the accident, so my mom sent him out to smoke a joint with his friends. Funny part number 1: My brother was still holding his coffee when the car finally came to a rest, and he'd barely spilled more than a couple drops in his beard and on himself. Funny part 2: I told my mom now she can't bitch about a deer hitting her brand new car while I was driving it, because a MAC truck hit it while she was, which equals, mom wins!
Moral of the story, I'm going to have the best Christmas ever this year, because they're both alive and neither of them ended up int he hospital.
Holy cow Witch! Thank goodness everyone is safe, but you should seriously consider public transportation for a while. This car voodoo is no good.

Oh yeah, funny part 3: my mom was bitching about the shitty tires her car came with. I looked at her and said 'well, now you get four new tires and don't have to pay for it!' She said Todd said the same thing.
