Moonlight lit up the trees as they swayed in the strong wind. From the east, a wall of dark clouds and the dull roar of thunder encroached on the forest. The first traces of rain pricked at Tobias' forehead as he watched the torches of rebuilding Underwood race madly about. "Insects," he mused, "ants scurrying from the coming storm, terrified."
The scream of a raven drew his gaze skyward, and the Mercenary held his arm aloft. As the dark bird alighted on his wrist, it shook its head and cawed softly. Tobias gently took the attached missive from the avian and unrolled it. As his eyes moved over the words, Tobias let out a soft laugh. "That found him quick enough."
He scratched the bird on the chin, and it seemed to smile. "Thank you, little friend," he cooed, and the bird went winging away.
Tobias swung down from the canopy and onto the dirt path, somewhere in the depths of the forest. "The instructions said to meet the contact in Underwood." The Mercenary stretched his arms out and began to walk. "Before the Coalition took power, it may have been dangerous." He sounded almost wistful, but his honed senses remained sharp. If someone were listening, he would lure them out.
"I'll meet him when I get there," he declared.
