Hello everyone!

As many of you know, a few months ago a security vulnerability was detected in vBulletin 4.2.3, the current version of vBulletin that we use on the site. Due to years upon years of layered coding, excess system files and conflicting hacks, I was unable to install the security update without shutting down many of the system perks that we relied upon everyday on Althanas. Indeed, you might have noticed a steady decay in functioning as I've worked to keep our database safe over the past few months.

After an extensive discussion with the staff, it was decided that we would change platforms. The choice came down to Vbulletin 4.2.5, Vbulletin 5 and Xenforo. Vbulletin 5 and Xenforo are designed for simple, fast paced posting with heavy user loads, but we simply do not have that type of activity here. Thus, we settled for VBulletin 4.2.5, which incidentally will be the final version of vBulletin 4 released. It was also decided that due to the massive amount of conflicts in the system causes by our years of code tampering and hacking, that we'll be migrating over to a new database. That migration has been completed, and I'm pleased to announce Althanas 4.0.

On 7/1/17, Althanas 3.1 will be archived and we'll be migrating to a new forum!

So what does that mean for you? Very little. You'll have to re-register your account, but that's about it. When you do so, you'll immediately see an improvement in design and forum speed, as well as less 502's in the Althanas Chat.

To make it extra special, we're also going to make a few Althanas related changes:

We're publicizing the ROG system. After receiving feedback from the community, we've realized that one of the major sources of contention on Althanas is the secrecy of the Realm of Greeting. Thus, we're going to make the entire system public. You'll be given the power level equation, and a list of abilities at various power levels. We're doing a soft reset on canon. Following the events of the 2017 AC, all former canon will become historical as Althanas moves into its Third Age. The tap, it's been discovered, was just a single fountain of magic among many. Therefore, the new age will be considered the age of magic reborn. Yes, this means the canon submission system will reopened. Historical events can still be canonized, as can locations, events, but those items will face higher scrutiny. The focus will be on discovery and current events that make up the master timeline of Althanas. All old submissions that were not addressed must be resubmitted. There will be a heavier focus on freeform roleplay. This will include an area called Kebiras, where players can role-play their Althanas approved characters at any level for reduced awards (Yes, Kebiras will still be an area of the "other regions" that you can develop with your Althanas registered character). There will also be a true freeform area, much like the Nexus, where you can play any character in any setting.
I'm sure there will be plenty of questions about these changes, so I'll leave this thread open as a question and answer. Let me begin with a few questions the staff asked

Will I have to reregister my character? No, unless you want to. Now that the system is public, you might want to maximize your allowed abilities. If you don't wish to reregistered, we'll have a thread in the ROG for straight transfers from Althanas 3.1.

Will threads transfer over? Absolutely. This includes archived threads. You can have them moved from Althanas 3.1 to Althanas 4.0 at any time. We'll have a request thread open.

When will the AC results be posted? Probably Sunday.

What if someone takes my username? Let me know and we'll take care of it.
If you have any other questions, concerns, or comments please post them here.

You can see the new forum here: www.althanas.com/iw

You can follow us as we fill in the gaps. It's closed for registration and posting now, but that will change leading up to the official switch. Once the systems are complete, I plan to open registration early!

Right now, I'm also looking for a few graphic artists to design some artwork for Althanas. If you're interested, please let me know. I'll create a thread in the Your Word. We really want to inject your creativity into all aspects of the community.

Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing you in 4.0!

Will current ongoing threads be transfered over?

Yup! You'll just request it in a request thread, and any member of staff will be able to transfer it over. Super painless!

Sounds like a good time to retire all my characters (except Aoimoku) and start a new guy. After all, this is a new era.

Yo Tony great job on this so far.

I might also be retiring some of my alts with the 3.1 site and getting some of my mains transferred. I don't intend to transfer everyone as that would be a huge process to undertake and one of my alts in particular I refuse to ever use again. Anyhow, hopefully the transition goes smooth and I look forward to seeing many new faces on the 4.0 site.

Hehehehehe.

My future plans just became that much easier to pull off.

Will the change in any way affect mechanics of the site, such as an overhaul of the bazaar, materials, acquisition of items, badges, money, AP, etc? I assume no but wanted to confirm.

I had a question--are you gonna launch the new PG system with the new forum?

what happens to the wikiNothing. It will transfer over as well.

I had a question--are you gonna launch the new PG system with the new forum? It's in the works, but it will not be a relaunch feature.

I'm planning on just taking Nosdyn & Elthas with me to the new forum.

Would I -definitely- have to re-register them or would I be able to link existing profiles/etc? Just a concern I recently had with regards to the whole reregistering thing.

I know I recently reincarnated Elthas, would I be allowed to just use my current update sheet in the new forum like repost the exact same thing?

Not sure if someone else has asked the same questions or not but I'm just curious what's going to be the rules on that!

Nothing is changing in the ROG, we're just publishing the guidelines. So, no you do not have to reregister. We can directly transfer your current character sheet over.

What will happen to Archon's Vault?

The Vault was not very popular. As such, we'll be discontinuing it.

Hey Tony thanks for the information that's much appreciated bro!

I was just making sure how that whole process would actually work so now I know and what not.

Thanks again!

Still on track for this to happen on the 1st?

Philomel

Cannot seem to register? It comes up as "registration has been disabled by the administrator".

I managed to register Philomel, but was trying to register my alts ... Is this a temporary thing?

@Phi,

he said he would open registration early but that it is closed for now. Not sure how you registered your main even. He says it at the end of his original post.

Ah okay. I can see it in a very small but on the post.

Thank you though

I had a quick question...is registration back open for the 4.0 site or do we all have to wait until the 1st for that?

I am just figuring I want to register my two characters I'm bringing in advanced.

Thanks in advanced for anybody who can help with this!!!

Some good news and bad news everyone. The good news is that the site is nearly 100% coded, and should be good to go by our Saturday release. The bad news is that the content transfer has been going much slower than we anticipated. You don't actual realize how spread out the material is until you try to consolidate it. That said, I've made the decision to delay the Althanas 4.0 opening, sort of...

Instead, we'll be doing a one month beta where both sites are active. This will give us enough time to transfer over the content, and get the ball moving. The only things affected by this delay will be the Chat and the Wiki. To access those features, you'll have to use the current forum. During this time, you'll be able to write on either forum. All members are welcome to sign up and contribute to the transfer. We'll have several suggestion and bug/inconsistency threads running.

Thanks everyone for your understanding. AC judgments will be posted tomorrow, as I plan to have most if not all regions related errata functional by Saturday. If you have any other questions, please ask them here.

Hello everyone.

Brief update here. From now on, all future new character profile and profile updates should be posted in the Althanas 4.0 forum. For those with profiles pending, I'll be closing the ROG on this forum at 12 AM EST on 7/24/17. Please either finish your thread by then or repost it on the Althanas 4.0 forum. All OOC forums will be closed at that time too.

Thanks!

Okay.

Question, though. New items and my lvl 3 sheet were approved here, but my lvl 2 was approved on the new site. Granted, that was before my lvl3 was approved, but I'm wondering if I should repost the new sheet there now?

Max Dirks

Just repost your level 3 profile on the new site, I'll make sure they're the same, then approve it.
