Elias Bachmann exemplifies the appearance of the every-man in nearly all ways, except the colouration of his eyes, and, perhaps, the length of his hair. He stands barely taller than the average, with the weight to match; beneath his plain clothes he has the lean and wiry musculature expected of one who has spent most of their adult life either training for battle or being in the middle of it; coupled with that, he has various scars across his person, some more superficial than others.

Framed by his long hair, his face is set nigh-constantly in either a neutral appearance or a forbidding scowl; while he is generally fairly relaxed and lighthearted, his expressions rarely show it. When not expecting battle, he generally lets his hair fall loosely about his shoulders, though when combat is on the horizon he will tie it up so that it doesn't get in his way. The most striking thing about him is his eyes; a dark green colour that only truly shows in the light, they're also the most expressive part of his visage

Personality
Elias is quite quiet; while he isn't exactly unfriendly, nor is he charismatic and outgoing. He far prefers solitude over company at most times, perhaps a side effect of growing up near a city; however, he would far rather have travelling companions than not, if only for the benefit of added safety. However, those who do stay around him long enough and get him to open up will find him a steadfast ally, loyal to a fault, but with an overprotective and domineering streak that many would consider quite abrasive. His humour, as well, is not for everybody; while it's somewhat rare for him to make outright jokes, they're almost always of the sarcastic, deadpan variety, such that at times his companions aren't even sure that he's joking. As such, he has primarily taken to simply listening to others' jokes, laughing when appropriate, or telling them when they need to rethink their humour at other times.

He isn't without his temper; while he will bear most things in silence, at most giving a sarcastic quip or irritable glare in response to others' insults and annoyances, if pushed far enough he can break out into a rage to rival that of the dragons themselves. Some things are more likely to engender this response than others; simply trying to goad him into it is unlikely, as he'd sooner fight you to shut you up than he would out of anger. Attacking those he has come to trust and appreciate, however? That is what is most likely to drive Elias into a berserker rampage, even despite the strong self-control he usually maintains.

Skills

Literate: Having grown up in a fairly middle class household near Salvar's capital city, Elias is reasonably well educated; taught to read and write from a young age, he maintains practice in doing so, preferring time spent alone to read over time spent with other men and women. He dreams of, one day, writing a manual on the practice of swordplay.

Swordsman: Having trained in the usage of both longsword and greatsword for most of his adult life, Elias is deadly proficient with both styles of blade, whether in armoured or unarmoured fighting. One could easily try and claim that his somewhat-lacking social skills are a result of the amount of time he spent either reading or practicing swordplay.

One would basically be saying "please hit me" if they were to do so, but they still do have the opportunity.

Cook: Elias was long considered to be the best cook among those he travelled with, such that he was regularly asked (and, at times, volun-told) to be the one to prepare their nightly meal.

Carpenter: You need a decent chair made, or a table? Maybe even some cabinets? Elias can do that for you. They won't be of the greatest quality, mind, but they'll get the job done well enough, and they'll last until you have the money to get something much nicer made. Assuming you don't mistreat the furnishings, of course.

Abilities

Unyielding Resolve: While Elias's swordplay is highly proficient, he is not without the capacity to tire or make mistakes; where these could prove devastating to a normal man, however, Elias is capable of pushing on. Elias has proven himself, time and again, capable of pushing through the pain of wounds he receives, even those that would otherwise prove incapacitating, forcing himself to continue fighting however long may prove necessary. However, his resolve alone cannot make up for overall failures of the body; a missing limb will not continue to magically fight on with the rest of his body, and he must temper his fortitude with the willpower to know when enough is enough, and the humility to know when to retreat, lest he fall into a berserker rage that leads to nothing more than his own death.

Tempo e Contratempo: Owing to his long time spent studying and practicing swordplay, Elias has a near-preternatural ability to determine the timing of combat. His senses are well honed enough that he is very capable of recognizing openings presented by an opponent in battle, coupled with the wisdom of knowing which are safest to exploit; this extends to enemy's attacks, as Elias's preferred style of swordsmanship is one in which defense and attack can be commited in the same motion.

Equipment

Clothing - Adventuring Clothes: A few sets of plain, but hard-wearing clothing that constitutes Elias's normal wear when not expecting battle.
Item - Camping Gear: All the items needed for a man expecting to live in the wild for a time; a simple tent, a tinder box, some bandages and a needle and thread (either for repairing seams or stitching shut a wound), a backpack, some rope, cookware...the basics, really.
Armour - Iron Hauberk and Nasal Helm: The armour that Elias has used ever since he set away from home is a well-worn short sleeved iron hauberk, with split at the groin to enable riding a horse and engender easier movement. His helmet, meanwhile, is of a simple type, covering the top of his head with a pointed peak to deflect blows (rather than merely absorb them), and a thick strip descending down his nose, offering a modicum of facial protection.
Weapon - Iron Longsword: Perhaps more accurately termed a "hand and a half sword," Elias's preferred blade is one that is balanced suitably for use in either one hand or two, though the latter is more common; still, with a total length of only about forty-two inches, it is easily used in a single hand. The blade is very stiff, with a severe taper to a needle-like point, useful when combatting armoured opponents; however, due to the width and thin cross-section of the blade, it maintains a deadly cutting ability. Otherwise, it is, truthfully, average in every way.
Weapon - Iron Greatsword: Far more uncommon than his other sword, Elias also possesses a large greatsword; at a foot longer than his other weapon, it is a beast of a blade, though larger yet can still be found. Indeed, if it weren't for the drawbacks of cheaper iron compared to steel, his greatsword might be nearly as long as he is tall.
Horse - Brennan: While Brennan is not a trained war-horse, he is far braver than most of his species, a fact which Elias quite appreciates. Still, he would never dream of riding this beloved mount against other riders, instead mainly using Brennan for travel or the occassional fight (or, possibly, flight) against opponents who are constrained to unmounted combat.

History

Elias Bachmann's life is nothing particularly special. Having been born and lived quite near Salvar's capital city to a well-to-do family, most of his younger life was spent receiving a basic education, and training in his father's trade of carpentry. However, while the prospect of taking up a trade and living a simple life wasn't unappealing to the young man, he felt that his ultimate destiny was to be found further abroad. So it was that he took up the armour and longsword of his father, who had used them when conscripted to fight in battles past, and set out to join a mercenary company in the area, where he was quickly trained to use the weapon he had.

Indeed, he took to the training well enough that he was quickly chosen to be trained in the usage of the greatsword as well, both for battlefield use and for protecting higher-ranking members of the company in cities and villages as they travelled. Owing to the greater hazard of this role, he was also afforded greater pay; unlike many of his fellows, who would spend their wages on women and wine, Elias chose to save up what he earned. This proved to be a wise investment, as, when he completed his contract with the mercenaries, he was able to buy back the basic greatsword he had used with them, as well as some useful travelling supplies, before setting out again in search of yet more to do.
