For Ashla:

Back to Bestiary.

The hametsu are human like mammals from Haide. They used to live in two separate clans (sub-species) until an unknown plague wiped them out. Few survivors from either tribe remain, scattered across to anywhere but where their home was destroyed.

Biology

The FlameShadow and Tantibus have different cultures and traditions, however their biological similarities put them together. All hametsu are carnivorous, their canine teeth allowing them to shred their meals apart. (Each sub-species have a different special feature added to their canines. The FlameShadow clan can develop teeth as strong as delyn, while the Tantibus have deadly poison glands from birth.)

Both species develop stronger bones as they mature, bone that reaches the strength of steel. Hametsu also have natural strength, usually being able to lift two hundred pounds by the age of twenty.

Hametsu do not know the meaning words like "reproduction." They instead rely on their tribe arts to grow eggs in a unique kind of soil. These eggs have babies inside that mature for two years before hatching. A single pod of eggs can have up to eleven children and they only can be grown once every nine years.

Each tribe has its own magic tradition, learning different and unique styles per sub-species. It is this magic that flows through the blood that set these two tribes apart.

The hametsu generally have pale skin and various eye color. Hair color can be black, natural red, and brown. They can live up to the age of sixty and can grow to be up to six feet tall.

Shared Magic

There are certain magics both species carry. They both speak using telepathy and some can develop telekinesis. All of them dwell upon darkness to use their arts, naturally making them a somewhat "dark species." They each call upon the dark magics within within in different ways though. The FlameShadows are fine within the day, while Tantibus dwell in the night.

FlameShadow:

Culture:

The FlameShadow tribe traditionally favors battle as a sense of honor. They enjoy combat to an extent and train their young past the age of seven for it. When the young reach the ages of thirteen they are tested against each other to see who is the strongest. Out of the thirteen children hatched per pod, by the end of the contest only five to one would come out alive. Assassin and Warrior trainees were paired with a Healer trainee and they were placed in an arena to compete against each other to fight. It was considered by a traumatized Warrior who somehow survived as a "sea of blood." The surviving of the pods are made official members of the FlameShadow military. Up until the age of fifteen though, one each would be guided by a single mentor.

The entire clan carry the tradition of dyeing their hair blood red for clan deeds they've completed. They all enjoy wearing various forms of jewelry - only gold being limited to clan leaders and heirs.

They often times dressed in black cloth for comfort, types of designs ranging by member personality. Armor and weapons were either bronze or iron, types of such items varied.

Children who wished not to be Warriors, Assassins, or Healers often times became crafters. They would forge weapons and armor as well as making structures and preparing food for the clan

Classes:

Warriors: Those who would fight against massive beasts for meat and armor, as well as fighting off any raiding forces. These are the prides of the clan, often times holding public tournaments to show off their skills in combat.
- Assassins: Those who hunt for the clan, fend off enemies from the shadows, and use mind over matter to bring enemies to the ground. They can fight toe to toe with opponents, but usually use discrete, manipulated attacks attacks from the brushes while the Warriors are on the front lines.
- Healers: The healers are in charge of watching the young (babies - six year olds), growing herbs, and healing any wounded allies. Unlike the Warriors and Assassins they do not fight, but rather work behind them as a sturdy backbone. Healers are required to at least learn to defend themselves.
- Crafters: The only class to not exercise some form of combat, these are the engineers, architects, and blacksmithers of the tribe. They basically are the folks who provide for the entire tribe, giving up war to be the true backbone of their clan.

Clan Magics:

The magics within the FlameShadow bloodline is worded as the power of a plague. They release physical powers that can instantly cripple an opponent. These abilities range from fire that burns the mind to a powerful telekinetic wave of dark, red light. The weaknesses the FlameShadows have is the very thing their Tantibus brethren thrive on: venom and poison. The FlameShadow cannot stand disease and viruses, one of the hypothesized reasons why they may have died off before the Tantibus did.

Once in a blue moon a child will be hatched specially with the combined abilities of both tribes. Since it is impossible for hametsu to reproduce at all, these children are not suspected as a hybrid of two members of a different clan. Rather, these children are seen as omens of a tragic event that both clans could die from. These children are dubbed "Sekkekkyū" and are specially trained as warriors for that pending day. It is rumored that the Sekkekkyū can survive death, or even are immortal. Rarely any have ever come about to be tested for it. The most recent Sekkekkyū is a young Smight FlameShadow, from the said clan.

Tantibus:

Culture

The Tantibus preferably live in dark places like caves. Like the FlameShadows, the naturally dark species values combat... but see it as entertainment rather than honor. Tantibus children are raised to fight from shortly after birth, each child being raised by a single teacher who shows them how to fight and grow. These children however, at the ages of fifteen, are putted against one other "apprentice" their age in a public tournament. Winner takes all - including their opponent's life. The surviving children are put in matches two more times. Since the number of students are uneven, an extra round takes place in the first set of matches. In the end, only three or (if the odd numbered child is lucky) four children survive. They are raised under their mentors' guides for three more years before reaching adulthood and becoming full fledged members, partaking in the clan's entire activities of blood and death.

Like the FlameShadow enjoy dyeing their hair, the Tantibus enjoy getting tattoos.

Unlike the FlameShadow, who have a sense of honor, the Tantibus do not care for their elderly, leaving them to die... or worse, using a training exercise to kill them.

Also unlike the FlameShadow, Tantibus do not have specific classes of types of people. Everyone simply fights, provides, and dies.

Clan Magics:

Instead of attacks that affect the body immediately, the Tantibus favor abilities that affect the inside of the body, as well as the mind. They enjoy using poisons, disease, viruses, and their own venom to slowly kill any and all opponents. Like how FlameShadow abilities vary under the basic status, so do the Tantibus powers. The Tantibus also contain the unique ability to see in the darkness, and also commonly have better agility than their FlameShadow brethren.
