Certainly cannot be #2. It is canon that every player character on Althanas has terrible parents. I'll go with #3, though.

2 - Maddy starts her day off with a mile-long hike to a nearby lake and meditates on the shore until lunchtime.
3 - When she was an assassin, before becoming a killer houseplant, Madison's main form of magic was shadowmancy.
