Mikael’s eyes fell to the object his sister had ventured so far for, a music box old and worn. The wood had nearly lost all of its painted colour, but Mikael could still make out the delicate designs of silver that decorated the gift. His hands fell to either side of Mikael, his body took a step back to allow his sister some room maneuver.

Ayvriel’s explanation continued as Mikael listened silently, his eyes fixated on the old music box as he slowly nodded his head. The ordeal of searching through the entire forest, simply for an old gift, was something Mikael realized that only his sister would do, to cherish something from back then.

Mikael slowly remembered giving the music box to her all those years back, perhaps the old magic within the summer house prompted his memories, his brother had wanted to make the summer solstice be memorable to their young sister. Mikael remembered the hassle and energy it had gone to find the gold needed to purchase such a well handcrafted music box, but what took the longest had been finding the right music.

If Mikael could close his eyes, he could almost make out his brother’s frustrated voice, unhappy with the fourth music selection. They had been determined to find the right one, their sister’s favorite music. . . Ayvriel then asked Mikael why he was here and he shook off the momentary memory.

“You’re perfectly healthy, if not a bit thin on muscle,” Mikael responded.

“-And the undead were only a couple reanimated corpses, nothing we elves couldn't handle, but remember what Father would say about being caught off guard and unaware.” He explained his worry to Ayvriel.

He looked around their old home for a moment, before walking towards and sitting on one of the couches, “And yes, I was to be kept busy for the next couple months, but I instead chose to spend some months with you.” Mikael explained rather matter of factly.

With perhaps only a moment's notice given to his parents, Mikael wondered how long before they send a message and demand him to return back home. His escapade would only gain more attention the longer he went on without sending another message. Ayvriel may have wandered through the forest unaware, but Mikael had gambled on much worse odds when he ventured out. Remember, you need Ayvriel to agree with your plan if you don’t want to go back home.

“So,” Mikael started, his head turned to face his sister as his voice softened tremendously, “-Perhaps you wouldn’t mind some company for the start of your journey?” He asked.

Mikael hoped she wouldn’t pry too deeply into his reasoning, and with any luck he figured he could get Ayvriel to send a message back home to their parents before she herself finds out that her strict older brother may have broken a rule and dissented slightly from their parents.

Else, I’d never hear the end of it.

“You needn’t worry about bringing any extra supplies, I have brought enough provisions to last us quite a bit should we go somewhere with little to no towns.”
