    Raiaera Mission Board

    Raiaera Mission Board
    (Credits: Elrundr and Christoph)

The following are special story hooks for the region of Raiaera. Mission Board quests are a great way to affect the canon of the region, immerse yourself in its lore, and gain extra rewards. The mission descriptions are below. Some can be claimed multiple times, but others can't. Some require a certain number of participants; others do not. Some can be written only as quests or only as battles, and others can work for both. Any completed mission allows a much greater opportunity of affecting Althanas canon.

Important note: as stated above, some missions may only claimed by one party. We ask that you show consideration to your fellow members and only make a claim if you truly intend to see it through, and please limit yourself to claiming one such mission (as in, don't scoop up multiple such missions with alternate characters). Also, any one-claim mission thread that goes a month without a post will be declared inactive and the mission will become once more available. Such threads declared inactive may still be finished afterward, but will not be considered canon.

    Mission Title: From the Ashes
    Status: Available
    Faction: High Bard Council
Requirements: Any number of players; quest only; repeatable (if unsuccessful); if multiple groups quest simultaneously, they are to coordinate with one another to be most effective.

Timbrethinil, one of Raiaera’s Great Forests, is located directly northeast of the capital in Eluriand. Perilously close to the capital, Timbrethinil was ravaged by the undead during their sacking of the country’s northeastern cities. Now leaderless and disorganized, hordes of these undead wander this charred graveyard, feasting on any who venture within. You are tasked with cleaning out as many of these undead as you can, and if possible, purifying the White Tree at the heart of the forest. Once purified, an act of powerful magic can help the forest regrow to its former splendor.

Bonus: Players have the opportunity to purify the White Tree at the heart of the forest, now charred and broken, and work an act of magic that will speed up the forest’s regrowth. This will require party members (either characters or NPCs) with appropriate purification magic reaching the White Tree safely and performing the spell. The thread must score 70 or higher for this to be considered successful. (First quest to successfully complete bonus conditions will be considered canon following an additional CM-led canon quest to complete the cleansing of the forest; other claims in progress may still be completed, without potential bonus rewards.)

Rewards: Each player receives up to 300 GP, depending on how thoroughly they exterminate the undead. If bonus conditions are met, players may request one reward (an item, a favour, more money, etc) from the High Bard Council, subject to the judge’s approval, and will be considered heroes among the elven people.

    Mission Title: Lingering Dread
    Status: Available
    Faction: Bladesingers
Requirements: Any number of participants; may be a quest or battle; repeatable (if unsuccessful); if simultaneous groups quest, they may opt to coordinate for reduced rewards or oppose for increased rewards.

While Xem’Zund has died the final death, remnants of his power remain. The last known Dread Lord, Maeril Thyrrian, still reigns from the undead stronghold of Trenycë in northern Raiaera. The city is a festering boil of plague and poison, swarming with whatever remnants of the Corpse Horde that Thyrrian is able to control. While paling in compared to Xem’Zund’s power, he is still dangerous, and represents the last gasps of the shadow now receding from Raiaera, not to mention a constant thorn in the side of the Bladesingers. Short on manpower, the legendary Raiaeran guardians have stopped to recruiting mercenaries to assail the stronghold of Trenycë and kill Thyrrian.
Battle Option: A player may choose to side with Maeril Thyrrian and defend him against the warrior(s) seeking to destroy him.

Rewards: If the elves win, players receive 500 GP for slaying the Dread Lord, and they may search his personal collection of items as a reward, subject to judge’s/RoG approval. If the Dread Lord wins (i.e., scores higher in a battle-version of this mission), players who side with him will receive 500 GP, and may request an item from his stores (subject to judge’s/RoG approval). In this event, Trenycë will remain a stronghold of the undead until a party successfully kills the Dread Lord. Slaying Thyrrian will also earn the respect of the Bladesingers, opening up new missions.

    Mission Title: Pox
    Status: Available
Requirements: Any number of participants; quest only; repeatable; if multiple groups quest, they are considered in coordination.

Wherever the undead go, a plague often follows, rendering large areas uninhabitable for the living. Characterized by weakness, nausea and vomiting, and eventually putrefaction of the flesh and death, many victims rise again as new servants of the Corpse Horde. The greatest healers in Raiaera have sought a cure for years, but to no avail.

Any any clues to this plague’s nature remain, they would be at Trenycë, the last remaining undead stronghold, swarming with undead and ruled by Xem’Zund’s last remaining disciple, Maeril Thyrrian. Infiltrate the city and learn what you can of the plague, including how to purify it. (Note: this quest is always assumed to occur chronologically before the completion of ‘Lingering Dread’.)

Rewards: Each player receives up to 800 GP, depending on how thorough their research and how successful their plan to purify the plague. They will also be in a prime position to explore the city and find items which may have been left behind by residents during the evacuation. Successful purification of the plague will give the players renown among the elven people as great healers for many years to come.

    Quest Title: The War Machine
    Status: Available
    Faction: Bladesingers
Requirements: Any number of participants; may be a quest or a battle; repeatable.

While Tel Aglarim, the Elven army, has successfully driven most of the Dark Elf invaders out of the country, pockets of Alerian resistance remain along the Mountains of Dusk to the west, hoping to maintain a foothold in Raiaera. Lady-General Nalith Celiniel has ordered all available bodies to add their might to the cause and drive the invaders out once and for all. The Bladesingers have answered the call and, in an unprecedented move, have welcomed ‘any warrior with the courage to stand against darkness’ to fight at their side. You are to fight against the Dark Elf forces by any means necessary, and the greater damage to their most prized possessions—their fleet of airships—the better. Prisoners of war are accepted, but not considered necessary.

Rewards: Each player receives up to 500 GP, depending on their success in the mission and the dangers they face. Destroying an Alerian airship earns up to 300 GP extra. Particular acts of bravery, injuries sustained in the line of duty, and so on may earn honors by Tel Aglarim, which will mark those players as heroes among the elven people and earn the respect of the Bladesingers.

    Mission Title: Treaties in Stone
    Status: Available
Requirements: Any number of players; quest only; repeatable; if multiple groups quest, they may opt to coordinate for reduced rewards or oppose for reduced rewards.

For centuries, the dwarves of Gunnbad in the mountains northwest of Raiaera have prided themselves in their independence from the Alerians and their neutrality in matters concerning the world around them. This must change. The dwarves have already stirred in response to the undead threat, but what they do not realize is that the dark elves, now facing failure in their invasion of Raiaera, seek to subjugate their powerful nation like they have those in Alerar with a powerful force marching north along the Mountains of Dusk. The Gunnbad dwarves would make a powerful ally for the High Elves. You must warn the dwarves of the imminent attack and help protect them against it; even if they do not officially take Raiaera’s side against Alerar, their continued neutrality is essential.

Rewards: Players will receive 300 GP for successfully warning the dwarves of the threat and helping them retain their independence. They will also be considered strong allies of the Free Dwarves of Gunnbad, and may be granted further opportunities to work and trade with them in the future. If they manage to do something to significantly impede or halt the advance of the Alerian forces, their reward increases to 1,000 GP (this must be done realistically in the quest, and requires a score of 70 or higher).

    Quest Title: Convening the Council
    Status: Available
    Faction: High Bard Council
Requirements: Any number of participants; quest only; repeatable.

While the Cora’Lindstra himself has returned to the seat of Raiaera’s power, much of the High Bard Council remains missing in action. Any information on their whereabouts will greatly assist the surviving Council members in rebuilding the country’s government. Various rumors hint at the whereabouts of different High Bards. Follow one of these rumors to its ultimate conclusion and report back with your findings. If at all possible, return the Bard to Eluriand. Even confirmations of death will be rewarded, however, as valuable to rebuilding the council.

Rewards: Players will receive 300 GP for either returning a Bard to the Council, or reporting back with confirmation of one’s death. If the quest scores a 70 or higher, the characters will be offered full Raiaeran citizenship for their services, which translates into a 10% EXP and GP bonus to any future quests involved in directly aiding the Raiaeran reconstruction.

Can I step up and take a convening the council quest?
There is a darkness in you. In all of us, probably. Beasts we keep chained. Ordinary men have to keep the chains strong, for if we let the beast loose then society will turn upon us with fiery vengeance. Kings though...well, who is there to turn upon them? So the chains are made of straw. It is the curse of kings, Helikaon, that they can become monsters. And they invariably do.

    Rayleigh is pretty chill. ♥
