Althanas News

Hello Again!
First off I want to apologize for missing last week’s article. Work and the Serenti got the better of me for a bit.
The Serenti is still going full swing, with second round matchups set to end on Tuesday. Round three will begin Friday night at 11:00 EST. Make sure to check the brackets as soon as your scores are posted and remember that there will be wildcard advances. If you finish your match you will be eligible for one of those spots. Overall I am very impressed with the quality of the completed battles as well as with the creativity so far. I look forward to reading the later rounds, and wish everyone involved the best of luck.
Keep in mind that we do still have Serenti gambling going on, so be sure to check out the gambling thread here. Thanks again to everyone who is participating and providing feedback.
Vignettes are still open for September, and will end this Friday. There is still time to get yours in before they are judged. This is an easy way to get a bit of experience and possible some extra GP, so take advantage of it.
I have noticed that the chat seems to be busy quite often now, and am excited that players are using it to get to know one another. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you should. Thanks again for another great week Althanas!
As Always,
Amber Eyes.

Thread of The Week

This is where we will put the spotlight on ongoing threads of note in Althanas, giving them a bit of attention. This weeks featured thread comes from Knave and Blank. It's titled The Oath of Van Lawrence Here's an excerpt, and be sure to keep up with it as best you can...

"They had talked for almost an hour over the many maps and charts and scrolls which were open over the feasting table behind them. It had served as the first of many introductions to the history of the guild and the factions which opposed it. If Ace accepted the offer firmly then the next stage of initiation could begin. “You have seen what you would be up against, and who will oppose you. You are now more familiar with the guild and all the hardships that operating it will bring. I can’t say it will be easy,” he flicked his hair behind his ears and set the tips of his fingers together in an inquisitive pose. “Will you take The Oath, Ace Mandelo. Will you take what was offered to you on that crimson ship what seems like many moons ago?” In earnest Blank swallowed a lump in his throat and hoped that all his trust had not been misplaced."

Article of The Week

This is where we feature one of the articles we've made for the Althanas Wiki so far. This week's featured article focuses on Akashima

"Akashima is a small country nestled in the northeastern area of the Corone island. Once a small village of barbarians when the Raiaeran explorers first found them, the Demon War left them torn from their ancient roots. However, from the ashes of the fallen a new nation emerged to reclaim the land of their ancestors, the new generations of warriors and artisan reviving their forefathers' way of life. This small nation is unique in a sense that it is an island within an island - ruling independently of the Coronian Government while still remaining in good terms with them since reconnecting with the outside world...

Member Spotlight

As more and more members make their wiki pages, we'll begin to feature some of them, helping members get to know one another. We invite everyone to make their own pages talking about their characters, their musings, and their ideas. As soon as we have someone with sufficient content, we'll spotlight them here.

Judge's Choice Spotlight

The Judge's Choice forum is a great source of inspiration. Members should know what others before them have achieved. This week's Judge's Choice Spotlight comes from Flames of Hyperion and Wings of Endymion, and is titled Legion of Light Gaiden: Miracle on a Silent Night Here's an excerpt...

"The horizon remained obscured by the menacingly evil clouds that had haunted the heavens all day, but here and there patches of bleak light reminded him that yes, the sky was indeed blue. The scenery was rocky and treacherous, austere in its monotonous lack of… of anything of note whatsoever. Coarse grasses and bracken clung to whatever nutrients the thin soil could provide, a rugged carpet of dull greens and browns that looked even more miserable in the dour weather. The snow-capped mountains in the west towered above anything in the vicinity, while a heavy fog obscured the entirety of the forest to the south. Ingwe could not decide whether it was natural or arcane. Given that there was barely a breath of wind heralding from the sea far behind him, it could have been either."
